  In an unlikely location in the more shady and marginal part of the Sintra pedestrian street, this informal and cosy decorated restaurant has a discrete service with a varied menu and wine list. We were two for a business lunch, where I chose the vegetable soup (saved by their fabulous home made chilli) with the couvert, a juicy pork loin, the garoupa filet with a tasty asparagus mass and a delicious apple tart (all courses beautifully decorated) with a glass of house white and red, water and coffee for €75.   This was our last dinner in Sintra, & it was amazing to say the least. We visited end of February, & made reservations for 7:30pm (was easy to make online). I’d say this is not necessary in slow season, but definitely needed as it gets busier. Service was fast, the place was beautiful and our server was friendly and helpful! (I believe it was Reya but I forgot to write her name down 🤦🏻‍♀️) We had: •Planalto Reserva bottle of white wine •Bread with 2 types of butter, crushed olives, & olive oil •Scallops Appetizer •Smoked Cod Carpaccio Appetizer •Duck Leg Main Dish (I suggest this one the most - amazingly cooked and the sides go very well together) •Entrečote Steak Main Dish •Apple Dessert with Vanilla Icecream Flavours of each dish and cook of the meat were all perfect. I would’ve gone back here if we had more time! We walked here from the Sintra center, but I believe there was some street parking. If it was after a certain time you can park out front, if earlier in the day you’ll have to park and walk (about 5 mins depending). Eu teria voltado aqui se tivéssemos mais tempo! Caminhamos até aqui vindos do centro de Sintra, mas acredito que havia algum estacionamento na rua. Se já passou de um certo horário você pode estacionar na frente, se for mais cedo terá que estacionar e caminhar (cerca de 5 minutos dependendo). Altamente recomendo este lugar 👏🏼

The waiting staff were very attentive, the food was excellent and beautifully prepared (I regret not taking photos), and the atmosphere is warm and comfortable- it is evident that the owner carefully selected all the decorations to ensure customers had a great experience.   Honestly, I am speechless. We came here for our anniversary and after we had our first course, we simply refused to go. We ordered more and more (ate three desserts in the process) because we wanted to taste as many different items from the menu as possible. Each and every of them was another surprise of how good food can be. I truly believe the kitchen staff has mastered their skills. But not only the food was first class, the service was very friendly and attentive and did a superb job. It was truly perfect in every meaning of the word.   Service is poor. Waitress was rude and not welcoming. We came in to see the menu and changed our mind: she said that “you should see the menu outside this is not good for our restaurant that you came in”. Come on, I will not come again here then! Ps I see your response and this approves my review. What all of a sadden you call me “unsympathetic and rude”?! Your response shows that your customer service is so so poor!!! Disgusting impression after visiting your taverna 🤢 In decent and welcoming places there is no problem to change your mind and usually I have heard “thank you and see you again” but in your eatery your staff think that can point out how I should behave!   The food is excellent. Firstly a selection of bread and butters prepared our stomachs. Then we had a risotto and pork and it was delicious. The presentation was also great and we received a very attentive service. When the bill came we were surprised how low it was.   Lugar encantador. Funcionários requintados, mas não cafonas, treinados e muito gentis. Os pratos que provamos eram simplesmente de primeira qualidade: risoto com bacalhau, filé de garoupa e 3 sobremesas, uma melhor que a outra.   Not exagerating, 1h30 waiting for the food. I wouldn't recomend this place to anyone. If you are lucky to be the 1st /2nd served it's an ok experience. It really doesn't seem they can handle the quantity of tables they have (even not having many). It takes 20 / 25 mins to make and serve each table (of 2), so you can have an extimate on how long it will take for your order. Food was fine. But nothing feels good after waiting for 1h30 without any warning. Reinforcing that the waiting time didn't seem like a one-off at all. It seems to me to be normal for them.   Procurando no Google bons locais para jantar em Sintra, encontrámos esta taberna de comida portuguesa de autor. Vejamos, parecia um pouco caro para o que comíamos e havia pratos que podiam ser melhorados como o peixe do dia, porque embora não fosse mau, a quantidade era pequena. Os croquetes são bons, a massa decente. O melhor foi o prato de carne, a única coisa que se destacou no jantar. Também um ponto negativo é o atraso entre os pratos. Bem, tenho certeza de que havia lugares melhores.

  Lovely place for a meal. The food was excellent - I particularly enjoyed my steak, which came with pollenta and a delicious banana relish. The staff were very friendly and attentive, although there were a couple of instances where it wasn't clear that things being brought to the table weren't included but were being offered to buy.   Cozinha muito cuidada e elaborada. O carpaccio de bacalhau, acompanhado de uma interpretação de pico de gallo, surpreende pela utilização de azeite de manjericão e pelo toque certo de pimenta. O aroma de alecrim e louro realça o sabor do entrecôte. O acompanhamento de espinafre é curioso. De sobremesa tivemos folhado de maçã, um final perfeito para a noite.   Dine on my own. Wanting to have a nice steak for tea. Very nice! It worth the price. The chef is really good. The service was good, but there is room to improve. I would of give 5 stars but something did really not go well. I have been offered at the beginning of the meal few slices of bread with some spreaders. These were already plated and offered to me on a plate. I was not explained that these were not just part of a welcoming starter, but just got billed for it at the end. Roughly 6 extra euro that has not changed my life, but I rather have know I was going to be charged for it. It’s just a simple thing, but change a lot the outcome of the experience. I presume is not the staff fault. Anyway food great, staff friendly, slightly overpriced for the experience, but I guess is part of visiting Sintra. Would I come back, not sure. For "Criativa" we would've have expected a bit more creativity, but it seems that the menu changes from time to time so we might just have picked the wrong time for our taste ;-) The food presentation is nice but nothing outstanding, also the taste itself. The quality of the food is very good and fresh, we just missed that extra kick of taste that you would expect at this kind of restaurant and price level. The restaurant is pleasant but rather small.   While it wasn’t a completely horrible experience, it was the worst experience we had in Portugal for this rating and price range. The food was good, but rude staff made our experience not so enjoyable. For example: * We’ve booked a few weeks ahead of time for our group. At some point, the manager sent us a rude email asking why we haven’t chosen our menu yet. Needless to say, they didn’t ask us to do it (we only communicated via email, so all paper trail is saved). When we provided the info and explained that they didn’t request it at first, no apology (or any other reply) was sent. * Their manager provided wrong IBAN for the deposit and sent a rude email to rush the payment. When we explained their mistake, the correct IBAN was provided, but no apology was made. * When we just arrived to the restaurant, one person from the group took out a reusable water bottle and drank some water. Just when we arrived from the sunny street. Not putting it on the table, just drinking and putting back to the bag. However, the staff didn’t hesitate to condemn this and share their “no external drinks allowed policy”. We understand that, but we also didn’t plan to drink it throughout the lunch. We just took it out once. It was uncomfortable, unfriendly and ruined the beginning of the lunch for us.   BEST RESTAURANT we have been to on our 2 week Portugal Trip. We had a upper sweet waitress and a the rest of the staff was extremely friendly as well. Behind the bar counter, you can take a sneak peak into the open kitchen and see the chef prepare your food. I can absolutely recommend the fish carpaccio & the truffled mashed potato with egg & iberico ham. As main we shared the fish of the day and the black linguine with octopus & tomato sauce (finally enough octopus & sauce plus pasta was on point!). As dessert we shared the apple plated with housemade caramel. DELICIOUS. Make sure to have a reservation in the more crowded season and do absolutely go here. You will love it. No doubt.   We really had a nice lunch here. The cod carpaccio and the scallops starter were awesome. The pulpo and the lobster risotto were also great.   Our dinner at Taberna Criativa was the best we have had whilst travelling. We decided we'd splurge and didn't care too much for how much it would cost as it was our last night in Portugal and not only were we surprised by the bill but by all the dishes and even more so how great the floor staff were. The food is so beautifully presented and delicious. The seafood entree, a story in itself playing homage to the Praia das Macas region. The confit piglet was exceptional and with nothing to fault on our starters and mains, we couldn't say no to dessert and it was certainly no disappointment either. The waiter was knowledgeable about all the dishes on the menu and recommended some great wines to pair with our meals. It was a fine dining experience without the pretense, a celebration of local ingredients and modern Portuguese cuisine, which only set us back 100 euros. We expected and would readily have paid more, even checking the bill again to make sure nothing was missed. Overall, worth every penny and contemplated even going to have lunch there again the next day. Thank you to the team at Taberna Criativa.   First off, this place is highly overrated and expensive. We ordered the seafood appetizer. It came with a shrimp and some other sea creature, and some foam of some sort. Ok I guess. But in the world of, "We want plates," memes on Reddit... this deserved a photo. Served on a box of seashells. Pretentious and stupid. I'd have just wanted an actually appetizer. Sea foam doesn't make me hungry. And in a country of healthy sized portions for starter coarses... this was barely a tiny bite each at 9 Euros. Then two of us ordered the lobster risotto. Wow, it was like Chef Boyardee. I was very disappointed. Wife ordered the seared pork dish. That was the only one at the table that got something tasty. Then my kid had a spaghetti dish. It was ok. For the price, and the overratings I give it 2 stars, because wow what a disappointment. The service was good. So I added 1 star to what would have been only 1 star. I mean, maybe I should have known by the name that the place was gonna be pretentious, but it was close to where we were staying and we were tired. I won't go back. If you check my reviews, I don't just give out negative reviews just to be mean. I try to explain myself. And I give out plenty of 5s.   Wow what a find having taken the train to Sitra on a cold and windy afternoon castles were not on the menu but when we stepped inside this Taberna decorated with wine and their boxes we felt very comfortable. When we scanned the menu and found a degustation at 60eur and another 16eur for paired wines we were sold. What followed was an amazing afternoon 3-4 hours of exceptional food and wine. The highlight the foie gras and sticky closely followed by the cannelloni of cuttle fish, prawn and scallop. Service was both friendly, knowledgeable and excellent. I recommend this establishment if you enjoy food and ambience. Have had some great food in Portugal and recommend this as a day trip you will not be disappointed. Love from Australia :-).   What a sensational place. We did a day trip to Sintra and wanted to do a nice lunch for my birthday, so we chose this place based on their ratings. It was just excellent, and one of the best meals we have had in Portugal. High-end restaurant with a sublime wine list and a sommelier to help you with your selection. We had bubbles, two corses each, a beautiful red from the Douro Valley and dessert / port and it was €100 total, I think great value for the quality of food and the experience we had.   This must be one of the best meals I've had in Portugal. It's proper Portuguese food with a modern spin and just perfectly executed. Not overdone, but creative (as the name of the place suggests). Also, it's one of the few places that is not designed to cater exclusively to foreign tourists.   Went there for lunch so you ‘have’ to choose from the set lunch menu: € 13,- for a 3-course lunch, 1 drink (beer/wine/soda) and coffee. And if that’s not enough already, you get some bread with olive oil and butter to start with as well. You would almost think there’s something wrong. But no, the staff is more than friendly, the food is delicious, the restaurant is nicely decorated and the toilets are clean. We will come back for sure and this time for the a la carte dinner!   Although the food was good I wouldn't go back again and won't be able to recommend it in good conscience. Service was slow but worse than that it was deceptive. Just to give an example we had already ordered our appetizers and food and were waiting for them to arrive... At some point one waiter came by to our table asking is if we cared to 'try' one of the chef's specialties which conveniently he already had wrapped up in a paper and was ready to put on our table. It felt like a 'compliments if the chef' offering since he had brought it with him, except we were charged 8 euros for it at the end. They also added extra things to the bill that we didn't have. When the waiter saw us actually looking at the bill he came by and he knew already what he had double charged us for .... If you suspected we didn't order that 4th glass of wine why did you charge us for it in the first place?? 🤔🤔🤔 of course at the end he suggested we review them on trip advisor to help them out 🤐 (Traduzido pelo Google) Embora a comida fosse boa, eu não voltaria novamente e não poderei recomendá-la em sã consciência. Quando o garçom nos viu olhando a conta, ele apareceu e já sabia o que havia cobrado duas vezes. primeiro lugar?? 🤔🤔🤔 claro que no final ele sugeriu que os revisássemos no trip advisor para ajudá-los 🤐
