  We didn’t enjoy our dinner here. Sangria (thy make their own “blue sangria” variation) was expensive, but disappointing. Same goes for clams - it’s a big portion, but clams itself are almost as tiny as raisins. We only liked fried dorada with steamed vegetables, but unfortunately it was served almost cold. Atmosphere was a bit quiet and lonely, almost no music. The only nice thing I can mention is staff. Our waiter was very gentle charming. But unfortunately I can’t recommend the place.   I recently dined at Metamorphosis and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. The food fell short of expectations, particularly the Carne de Porco à Alentejana, which was marred by tough, chewy meat and stale potatoes, while the olives and pickles lacked any discernible flavor. Additionally the pepper steak came with a measly portion of three tiny potatoes. The Croquetes de Alheira lacked the promised alheira filling, further adding to the disappointment. Despite the culinary letdown, I must commend the staff for their warmth and friendliness. However, the awkward setup of the restaurant, with staff idly standing in line, observing diners, detracted from the overall ambiance.   This is the second time we have been to this restaurant and it did not disappoint again. The food is of excellent quality. You are always greeted with a smile and warmth. We were served by Manuel, a gentleman from Mozambique who gave us excellent service. He immediately made a connection with us as customers. He is someone who knows how to serve customers. There was another gentleman whose name I did not get but you also helped our table as you did the last time we came. Thank you for being warm and friendly and always making my son feel welcome. As we were leaving we were greated by Francisco a gentleman also from Mozambique, thank you for your warmth and service. It is not often you walk into a restaurant feeling like you among friends.   Octopus was not fresh, the texture was not tender. However, their vegetables were well cooked, pretty nice. I have never tried Francesinha before, l wouldn't say it is delicious, it's a mix of toast, ham , por, egg, and cheese.   A bit off the beaten track but it was so good we went twice. The staff were great, particularly the young man who seemed to be in charge and a newish young man from Mosembeque.   The service was charming but the food was far from pleasant. It actually left my wife and I with a stomach ache. My wife's dish was codfish methamorphosis, it was overcooked and the proportion was unbalanced (too much fish, it's a waste unless you take it home).   Luckily I had made an online reservation as the place was packed when I got there. I really enjoyed my dinner at this Portuguese restaurant. The staff were very attentive and friendly. I ate some clams in olive oil as appetizer and a specialty cod dish as main. I drank some white wine with the meal. Both were delicious. Menu is not too expensive. Definitely a nice place to have dinner if you come to Sentra and situated just across the train station by taking the walking bridge over the track.   We came in for an early dinner and were the only ones in the restaurant for a while. The waitresses were very nice and attentive. Loved the tuna pate, bread, and mushroom appetizers. The franceschina was also good. The octopus was slightly overcooked but the vegetables on the plate were delicious. The house dessert reminded me of ice cream sandwiches as a child (in a good way!) They were out of many wines, but still had a decently sized collection - we tried 3 reds. The atmosphere was okay, but there were gnats dive-bombing our faces while we ate and when we looked at the wall next to us, it was a gnat graveyard.   We loved this place so much that we came back the following day. Staff was very professional and friendly. The food was excellent and delicious! We had the octopus dish, shrimps, clams in garlic sauce, veal chops, veal scallops, and the steak with mushrooms ( not at once but in the two days we were there).   We ate there last night (a Wednesday) and were very disappointed. So loud. Loud loud loud loud. Very crowded. The salmon was over cooked and dry. It came with an orange sauce that was supposed to be mashed potatoes. We tried to send it back but the waiter insisted the sauce was in fact mashed potatoes.   We only went to one restaurant in Sintra but I am 100% convinced this one is the best! After a packed day doing activities, we were jet lagged, fatigued, and starting to get sick. When the food arrived, we didn't really have much of an appetite, but knew we needed to eat, so we asked for it to go and I think the waiter (who was very attentive, responsive, and fast by the way) was insulted we had only picked at our plates. I would recommend coming here for an authentic Portuguese meal but be careful what you order - make sure you ask the waiter to clarify what it is you're ordering! We ordered what we thought was Beef Steak (Bife cinco pimentas), but got given veal. The staff were friendly, but we felt sorry for them because they were understaffed and overworked.   In the beginning we got turned away because despite having many tables, they would only have large number of people coming in, aka a group of 4-6 people so we had to negotiate with the waiters. When we did get in, you could see the waiters were overworked as it took us 20min to put our orders in. I had the octopus and it was the worst I’ve had as it was over boiled and bland sadly.   Came here for the vegan food, impressed by the good reviews and I was extremely disappointed. The staff is lovely and the service is fast, but the food is average at best and def overpriced. The decor is dated, uncharacteristic and looks kinda cheap. I had two starters and a main: the pimentos with tartare sauce were undercooked and the sauce wasn’t tartare, but a thick, store-bought mayo. The mushroom appetiser was watery, salty and with raw garlic bits. The vegan “sausage” was alright, smokey and flavourful although a bit mushy - that is because it’s not a sausage, but an elongated deep-fried croquette made with bread, potato and a few, rare veggies. I was starving after a long hike so I ate most of the stuff, but left unsatisfied.   We recently spent a few days in Sintra and had one of our dinners at Restaurante Metamorphosis on R. João de Deus just to the east side of the rail station. They have a fairly large indoor seating area and are open from 12pm to 10.30pm daily. This is a traditional Portuguese restaurant with casual environs, good service and pretty good food. Everything served during our meal was fairly good and reasonably priced. Padron peppers were nicely grilled and tasted nice. Main order of Grilled Sea Bream with veg tasted just fine while the baked salmon fillets with an orange cream sauce were interesting, would have preferred simple grilled salmon but this wasn't bad. Finished our meal with a nice slice of chocolate cake. On the whole, not our favourite traditional Portuguese dinner during the trip but pretty good food overall at Restaurante Metamorphosis.   Really great food and service. The beast meal we have had by far in Lisbon area in our first 5 days! Our waitress helped us pick both our meals and our wine which we all amazing. The dessert was not as amazing, but good. The port wine that was paired with it was very nice. If we were staying longer in asintra, we would be come back. It was that good.   Hubby requested we go back to this restaurant. He must really like it! We had it yesterday lunch and for today again. Yesterday he had clams and I had Grilled Pork. Our dessert was Nutella Cake with Ferraro Rocher on top. Today, he had Steak with rosemary and mushrooms and I had Bacalhau with Onions and Tomatoes. For dessert we had chocolate cake.   Lots of vegetarian options and those that we ordered were delicious. Grilled meats were a disappointment. Dry and with out any spices or sauce. Other ordered meat dishes were good. Wine options were large with different priceranges. Price of the disches were allright and size was quite filing.   I’m having a quick lunch, it’s taken over an hour to order eat and pay which is typical. Environment is dull. Wait staff is quiet and busy. Restaurant is empty. One other table dining. It’s off season. I ordered tapas: eggplant: amazing, loved it and recommend Clams: chewy (Portugal usually always has nice clams, I don’t recommend) Shrimp: bad texture as well. Maybe frozen and thawed a few times. Not fresh, wouldn’t finish the plate. Don’t recommend. I’m surprised how well rated this place is. I was kinda excited to come here.   I visited Sintra for the first time and this restaurant was a memorable part of my trip. It has a cozy atmosphere and the food was priced affordably for the quality. The waiter was efficient and polite and service was great. I ordered some fried fish cake and tuna pate as appetizers and veal scallop with mushroom sauce as the main. The veal could be cooked a little more tender, but the mushroom sauce was really amazing. All in all I would definitely come back to try some of the other dishes! Once inside, it becomes a delightful reprieve (especially from the very cold wind we were suffering from!).   Came back twice in 2 nights for dinner. First time travelling to Portugal and to Sintra but i know something right about this restaurant. First night i ordered veal with mushroom, soup and a mousse for dessert. Cooked skillfully. Saw them serving the Steak Bife which looked good so i came back the next night, and also tried the chocolate cake. Very value for money and definitely a good choice to be here.   Excellent. While this place is a bit off the tourist track, the food it serves is great: the olives are marinated in some of the finest olive oil, which is rich in flavour, shines in a lovely green and has a good chunk of garlic added to it. The salmon was gigantic, yet very nice and tender; some of the best I’ve had in Portugal. The steak is a classic from the Portuguese kitchen — lovely tender, served with a fried egg on top and a rice / French fries combo next to it. Service has been outstanding, all staff wearing a big smile and clearly happy to bring the best they have from the kitchen to your table.   The food wasn't cheap (in line with Sintra prices) and the quality was subpar compared to other restaurants in Sintra and Portugal. It wasn't bad but wasn't good either, it was quite plain. The dessert (chocolate mousse) was nice, though. The waiters were nice and even gave us a couple of complimentary ginginha shots, but it took them ages to take our order and quite a while to serve our food too. I was "warned" that a dish I wanted to order was going to take half an hour to prepare, so I chose something else, expecting a shorter waiting time, but in the end it took even longer.   I’m not quite sure the great reviews on the Francesinha, I just don’t understand. I will say I am American, so it may be my taste buds. The meat inside the sandwich is good, but the sauce tasted like they took a can of Spaghettios and drained out the noodles and used that sauce. I wanted to try traditional Portuguese cuisine but I thought the sauce killed the entire dish. The wine was great and the dessert was phenomenal. If I just had those I would give the place 5 stars.   The food is really delicious, prices are normal and location is nice, but I don’t appreciate the service. We’ve been waiting for one hour till our food came. All the foods were cold so i ask them to warm the food. It took 10 minutes to warm the food and bring them back. It happened again when we order desert, they made a mistake and i was waiting 20 more minutes. And at the end they made another mistake with calculating each person’s share. I think this place with such a good food should make some small changes in management.   We came here by following Google map review. One of the most highly rated restaurants in Sintra. Located just nearby the train station. For starters we ordered sauteed mushroom and cod fish cake. The mushroom was really good, simple seasoning, but great execution: a good balance of savory, acidity, and a little bit of sweetness. For the latter one, it was our first time tasting a cod fish cake. Taste ok, not too salty, but not our favorite from the meal. For the main, we had a veal chop and butter-mushroom steak. These dishes made us feel that it was a great decision to choose Metamorphosis to have lunch at Sintra that day. The main reason is that the prices were reasonable. However, the tastes were beyond our expextation. For us both meat were finely cooked, still have juiciness within it. The mushroom on the butter steak stole the show for us. We would like to give a shout-out to both waiter/waitress as well. Very attentive. Overall, a great experience for one day trip to Sintra.   We stopped here for dinner based on the excellent reviews. It was empty when we arrived but good thing we stayed because the food was very well cooked and presented. I had the grilled salmon which was cooked almost perfectly given that it was probably from frozen. We also had quindim for dessert which was absolutely delicious. Great service. Good wine selection.   Saw this place had good score so took a chance and expected a great meal... Couldnt had been more wrong.. First thing was that non of the waiters spoke or understood english so order went by finger on the meny.. Couldn not either recommend wines so had to take a chance and hope for the best.. As the food, went for the 5 meat grill for 2 persons course. Pretty much all the meat was really tough and hard to cut and chew.. And poorly seasoned, taste bland and boring.. Was hard to eat anything of it.. Only "side dish" with the meat was rice and french fries.. Then when we finaly was to take the check, they do not accept Visa or any Credit card.. And no recipt for the purchase.. So heads up, Cash Only! ... My recomendation, save your money and find somwhere else better to eat..   The food was decent enough, although my steak wasn't a premium cut, it had some gristle and sinew in it.   Super nice quality food with low price, our casual lunch was turned into a decent French dinner. They served with multiple forks and cotton nepkins, which was totally unexpected given the price listed on the menu. We ordered just one soup and asked to share, but they brought up two soups, each decorated with herbs and souces, and they count it as a splitted portion. We finished with great satisfaction.   I really wanted to like the place, and I kinda did. It is good priced, but for some reason I chose the traditional Portuguese bread and meat tower, which was terrible, basically microwaved food that I would expect at 3 am stumbling home.   I had lunch here today. Is a nice quite place, I think you need to reserve before arriving, as they asked us this since the begging. The food presentation was lovely decorated, and the seasoning tasty. I ordered cod fish, which I'm not really a fan but I was wanting to try the traditional Portuguese, so maybe that's why I wasn't that impress by the cod fish itself.   Nice staff, low food prices, nice presentation of the dishes, but the taste of the food is average. We tried the octopus a lagareigo and the bife com presunto with wine reduction. The octopus comes with vegetables and boiled potatoes. The portion was generous and the octopus reasonably tender, but mostly tasteless (which is unusual). The bife was asked rare (mal passado) and arrived well done (bem passado). The wine reduction was good. There was a lot of presunto. however the presunto was grilled which enhanced the salted tasted, however the meat was underseasoned. Eating the two together was ok, but completly hide the taste of the meat. The prices 13€ for the octopus and 12,50€ for the meat are correct. They do this strange dish called a bread tower but it actually tasted amazing !!didn't know what to expect but it was pretty good! Excellent customer service as well.   Great service and food! I wanted to try Cataplana for lunch on the last day of my Portugal trip, but they only serve it in big Cataplana pans, which means a 2-person portion. Flexible solution was that I still went for it and got the second half with me in a box to eat later.   Lovely place with very friendly staff, excellent & fast service, and enormous servings (think like the amount of food you get in Prague). The place itself is nice, cozy, with tables for 2 or 4 alike, in 2 sections. From what i could tell they have an impressive wine selection as well, but I'm a beer guy. Had a Francesinha, which is meat, sausage (2 kind, a smoked and some standard grill flavoured), ham, egg, cheese between 2 slices of bread, with some secret sauce (reminded me of curry & chinese spices). And french fries, from real potato. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a good meal, with some home dish feeling.
