  Hidden gem while waiting for our bus. The owner went out of his way to make us feel at home. You start off with free snacks/appetizers (which in nyc is easily 20-30 dollars), and they even gave us free dessert with port wine to finish off a nice big fish lunch. Portions are on the big side.   Amazing food, very quick service even when it was busy at lunchtime today. My only small complaint is that they didn't give us any salt or pepper for seasoning, but it didn't actually make much of a difference.   Similar to another review I saw... some very good things. We ordered two main courses the pork skewer and the grilled grouper. They were very good. And the two main folk who served us were very good. However charged 6,50 for a cover charge we didn't want..bread olives etc..., and after having ordered two drinks and then asking for tap water were informed by a very rude waitress that the tap water was no good. But I can tell you the bottled water was terrible and she is probably talking rubbish and just wanted to make a sale. Left a sour taste in my mouth anyway. We paid the cover charge but didn't order anything else and left no tip. Sorry folks... this is nearly very good and was recommended by the hotel but I was not happy.   Really good Portuguese restaurant with delicious food. The restaurant was packed but they managed to find a spot for me and gave me a huge portion of rice with octopus, which filled three plates. The quality of the seafood is excellent too. The rice was only €12 which for such a large potion is great. Highly recommend!   The people could not make up for the food. Everything tasted like it had come straight from the freezer. The bread, olives, and cheese were placed on the table in a very unappealing saran-wrapped bowl. The chicken was some of the driest we’ve ever had in our entire life. They don’t even try with the desserts. The interior looks like it hasn’t been renovated since the 1980s. After eating there, we were shocked that it had such high ratings. Would never go again.   Food was ok. I had the fried squid and shrimp. It was served with French fries. I found the plate to be to dry and greasy. It needed some kind of sauce to balance the flavors and maybe substitute the French fries for something that’s fresh. My dad ordered the fish and said it was pretty good. Service was ok, servers seemed to not want to take our table since lunch time was almost over. Watch out, Google says they are open all day but they close in between and re open for dinner. The dishes lacked any seasoning or salt, leaving them bland and tasteless. Even the most promising dishes, like the tamboril rice and the beef failed to impress. I couldn't help but feel let down as I had such high expectations for the food. The service was good, and the ambiance of the restaurant was pleasant.   This restaurant was recommended by our host and it did not disappoint. We went for a takeaway of their grilled Sea Bass and the fish was very fresh and cooked perfectly. We ordered the bigger portion at 30 Euros and there was so much meat on the fish, comparable to the fish we ate at Nazare which cost 45E. The sides were nice, in particular, the potatoes. The dish was not too salty unlike some other seabass dishes we tasted in Obidos. Lastly, the owners were really nice and the nice boss even offered our child a chocolate.   We arrived Sintra at noon, so we decided to grab lunch before visit. The menu on window had no English version, we thought this must be authentic, and we saw locals after we got in...lol, this place must be great! The dishes were good and service were great.   The owners are very hospitable, and the food was amazing! Especially the prawn, it blew my mind🤩🤩. We saw many locals came here for dinner and they greeted the owners like old friends. They even offered us fine Porto and dessert in the end. Btw the Porto is really good with fair price.   Possibly as close to real local dining as you can get as a non-Portuguese tourist in Sintra. Interior and exterior are simple and unassuming, but the food is great and plentiful, the staff are helpful, polite and quick, and while not all of them are English-speaking (some do speak it wonderfully, though, which helped us a lot!), they all did their absolute best to make us feel welcome guests. Definitely try the grilled meats - both pork and beef were cooked to perfection and delicious. They also serve a house-specialty version of Bacalhau. If you still have room after the meal, there is a rich digestive selection you can pick from. Open until 23, and very reasonably priced, it makes for a great spot to start feeling human again after you spend the day at the heavily touristed sights of Sintra. We had the Portuguese chorizo, traditional roast beef, beef skewer, pork skewer and steak with mushroom sauce (we love meat obviously) and everyone loved their meals.   Idk why this place only has 4.5 stars. Food was amazing - got grilled fish and grilled shrimp and cuttlefish. Everything was wonderfully seasoned and even their salad and boiled potatoes were great. The potatoes are somehow boiled in butter and garlic and you can cut it with your fork. The waiter was extremely insistent in ordering more expensive food. The cheapest soup is full of fat and tastes like rotten egg 🥚.   Our hotel reception recommended this restaurant. Positives 1. Service was very prompt. 2. Staff was very friendly. Family run restaurant and feel. Hired help spoke English very well and made good recommendations. 3. Food and plating felt very home cooked. We ordered the chorizo to start, fried lamb steaks, monkfish rice, a custard dessert that looked like creme brulee and a bottle of red. 4. Complimentary port wine and dessert was offered when we asked for the bill. 5. They brought some starters of bread, cheese, olives and empanadas which we did not order. We only took the empanadas and asked them to remove the others and there was no complaint. 6. Ambience is typical of family run restaurants. Warm, friendly and bustling. Vinho do Porto e sobremesa de cortesia foram oferecidos quando pedimos a conta. 5 Trouxeram algumas entradas de pão, queijo, azeitonas e empanadas que não pedimos. Pegamos apenas as empanadas e pedimos que retirassem as demais e não houve reclamação. 6. O ambiente é típico de restaurantes familiares. Quente, amigável e movimentado.   i was a bit shocked to read the few negative reviews of this place. It is a family run place and won't be getting any Michelin stars, but this is real Portuguese dining. I was told about this place by a local who worked in the tourist office. It was late and there were no witnesses. She said, "I am not supposed to recommend any specific business but try this place, I think you'll like it". Then she handed me a slip of paper, with Apeadeiro written on it and off I went to my Google Maps to find it. Just a short walk from the train station. I really enjoyed my dinner here. I had the rabbit and the soup, all with that wonderful homemade taste. Of course, the free appetizer of prosciutto and cheese was bought in a store and pre-sliced. I'm sure the olives came from a jar and not from a tree in their garden. What was the other reviewer expecting, a cow and a slaughterhouse out back? The bread was fresh and served warm. The staff was kind and the service attentive. Good prices for the amount of food they serve. I was stuffed and left happy. Highly recommended.   Recommended as a great place to eat Steak in Sintra by a local shop owner in town. What a great place it is. We are lucky enough to eat out a lot and if this restaurant was my local, I'd eat there every week. Great service, family owned and run by the looks of it and the food has a home cooked kind of feel. All of things combined makes it feel homely and inviting. Asked for the cheque and got a bottle of Port popped on the table and 2 glasses to help yourself. Nice touch.   Bad service, expensive. They charge you for things you didn't order, which is illegal in Portugal. We waited a lot for our meal. I ordered the vegetarian burger, it came covered in meat sauce so I had to send it back. They did not offer any discount for this. After the meal, they offered some pastries on the house but they changed it on the bill. The bill was in Portuguese, I assume they thought we couldn't read it.   I personally found the food to be mediocre and am not sure how this place averaged so high. As many of the past reviews had mentioned, I thought the wait staff treated me as a burden due to my ethnicity. I say this based on the way I was greeted compared to other customers and the lack of basic service I was getting compared to other tables. Also I should mention they spoke differently to my Caucasian boyfriend. I am not one to ask for anything outside of the basic dining experience of ordering a meal and it being brought to you with the tools you need. I had asked for a bowl to share my meal...   OMG, stay away! My mother always told me to count to ten when I'm mad before saying something I'm going to regret. Thats what I did. We went to this restaurant because we didn't want to walk a lot from the hotel. There were two menus, one in Portuguese and another in English but with no prices on it. So we had to alternate between the two to understand. My daughter took the pork which came with rice but not even one vegetable (there was a salad mentioned on the menu). My partner had grilled cod, which was dry and way too salty (accompanied by 5 small potatoes and again, no veggies). I took the shrimp: 6 of them in a bath of garlic oil and nothing else on the side. Seriously, 6 shrimps for 14.5€. I have to say, the staff were pretty nice, and at the end they brought us free pastries (not good) and Porto (good). Do yourself a major favor, stay away.   I'm not a picky person, but this was a poor introduction to Sintra. Decent food, way too expensive for what it was, service could have been better. Waitress ignored us for a while and took 15 minutes to get us the bill after asking for it It was very busy to be fair, but it's definitely one of the longest wait times I've had at a restaurant in Portugal, or anywhere and many newer guests were served before us. The server was friendly, just inattentive. I don't know how other restaurants compare in Sintra but this one left much to be desired. Dessert was flavorless and looked and tasted as if though it was bought from a grocery store, thawed a bit, then frozen again. Maybe we were just unlucky as many seem to love it. In short, adequate food, overpriced for quality, inattentive service, and a lot of time spent sitting around waiting while others are served/helped. There is free wifi however.   Cannot describe how wonderful these ladies are. Totally made me smile from ear to ear. If you eat at one place when you come to Sintra go here. If you're a backpacker you're probably not going to run into a bunch of fellow backpackers. What you will find are a group of people who are happy to be with you, full of positive energy, and make some damn good desserts.   Very nice place to eat local food with a typical Portuguese ambiance. I recommend to have the monkfish and rice dish and to absolutely taste the pillow cake! Superb!   When in Sintra, this is a great stop for authentic Portugese food! Try not to fill up too much on the large portion of fresh bread, cheese and mixed olives, cause the entree's and the kicker! I ate a delicious beef steak in a hot coffee-cream sauce suggested by my server and couldn't get enough!   A friendly restaurant but I was expecting better. After hearing a customer say it was great in this place and all the good reviews on Google I decided to give it a try. I had pork and beef skewers. They tasted passable, borderlines okay, a bit chemically tasting maybe being overly charred. Not sure how they were cooked. The chips that came with it tasted horrible. Like they had been cooked in the same oil that may have been used for many days. I cannot recommend this restaurant from my experience but other people seem to really like it. Não posso recomendar este restaurante pela minha experiência, mas outras pessoas parecem realmente gostar dele.

  Amazing form. Such a fun happy vibe in the air. The entrée bread and cheese was amongst the best we had and the mains were the same. The port was a great touch. Affordable too.   Food, place, staff... AMAZING! Consider yourself lucky if you stumble upon it. This was recommended to me by a now local Scottish guy. Service & food quality surpassed the price.   The menu is very confusing but the food is quite affordable and filling. For 17.50 I had a gigantic pot of Monkfish and Shrimp stew with a half bottle of white wine.
