  We ate here three times in two days so it's safe to say we tried a bunch of dishes and that we loved the place:) The food, ice cream, wine (Madeira's rosé was excellent!) and coffee are delicious! It is very child friendly (they offer half size of pasta), fresh and great quality! We had four kinds of pizza, pasta, risotto, salad, grilled vegetables and more... We especially loved the pizza and the location is superb!   My partner wanted to have some pasta and our little son pizza for dinner. I have to say, as an italian, I came here with some sort of prejudice. Food: 2 She ordered linguine with seafood: pasta was ok but came just with 1 shrimp and 2 mussels. Very little/poor variety here for seafood pasta. Pizza was very salty: tomato tasted rather like tomato paste (darker color) and not tomato sauce and cheese was definitely not real mozzarella (it was rather yellowish and oily). Frankly, I have big trouble understanding how other reviewers could call this the “best pizza of the island” as it looked more like one from Domino’s. Finally, I had scabbard fish: that was too dry and not tasty at all. Vegetables were fine. Service:2 The service was confused: in the first 2 minutes we had 3 different waiters coming to our table. After we ordered, another one came asking if we wanted to order. Felt like the distribution/assignment of the tables is totally random. Wine was not poured from the bottles, so we didn’t have the chance to see the actual bottles (trust the guys that we have received what we ordered, but that is not the right way to do it).   Definitely the best pizza on the whole island! We had the pizza de mel and pasta with tomato sauce - both were excellent and very tasty. The ambience there is wonderful - you can sit right on the water with a great view over the harbor. Our waitress was incredibly friendly and helpful! We used to indulge in their gelato daily, but unfortunately, the scoop sizes have progressively become smaller. Although the gelato is delicious, arguably the best in town, you need to order 3-4 scoops to match what would be considered a normal scoop elsewhere.   We've been living here for 9 months and Manifattura Di Gelato is one of our 5 favorite places to eat on the whole island. The food is exquisite, so is the service and they offer vegan, vegetarian and dairy free alternatives for thier pizzas, food, coffee and chocolate drinks. When visiting them, keep in mind that they have a system that works beautifully for them, as they are always the only restaurant of Calheta's marina that is always busy, so have patience with the staff during peak times. They are truly doing their best and they are brilliant at their job. The simplest thing as their vegetable soup is exquisite. I can't recommend this place enough. We used to eat out 2-3 times per year, but since we live here and have this restaurant a 20 minute drive from us, we are looking forward to visit them every week. It's the best value for money out of all the restarurants. We are foodies that cook great food at home and it's rare for us to find a pace that wows us, like this one does.   My friends an I stopped in here for supper one evening during our trip to Maderia. We were staying in Calheta, so it was a short drive from our bnb down to the marina. We had pizza and pasta, and both were excellent! We also had the gelato for dessert and it was also very good, and they have a good variety of flavours to shoose from.   Really good food, big portions and excellent prices! We were looking for vegan options in Calheta and were not disappointed! Everything on the menu was clearly labeled (vegetarian, vegan, lactose free, gluten free) with different options for every taste. We had the onion soup and bruschetta (both big portions!) and foccacias afterwards. Even though the focaccia is labeled as a starter and only costs about 5€, we couldn't finish it and took the leftovers home (happy about that!). Everything was delicious and even though the servers seemed to be very young and new, their friendliness made up for it! We can definitely recommend it!   I came to this place with my wife and 2 kids ( 2 and 4 years old) with a lot of expectations. This gem was found by just zooming in and out on Google Maps and surely it was incredibly worth. We came to the place and since we didn’t have a reservation we needed to wait to be seated. There were 4 couples in front of us and it took less than 10 minutes to be seated. Great start! What also helped a lot to kill the time is the view you have from this restaurant. The kids were entertained as were my wife and I by the views. Once seated we got a very nice waiter and we chose our items. We all had some great seafood ( Gamba’s and Octopus) check out the pics! The whole list was: - 2 starters: The Bruschetta and homemade Garlic bread - 1 Pizza Tuna for the kids - 1 main dish Octopus - 1 Main dish Gamba’s 300gram - 2 apple juice for the kids - 2 Brisa’s (carbonated passion fruit drink) - 1 1L bottle of water - 2x 1 scoop home made gelato for the kids - 1 chocolate mouse with a scoop passionfruit icecream - 1 crème brûlée - 1 take away 4 cheese pizza for take away for family at home. ———> total was just € 108,60! I have paid this amount easily in my home country for just 2 mains with 2 drinks. I can barely believe I’ve had one of my best Italian experience on this tiny Island. Without any doubt I can say this might be the best Italian on the whole Island. And we will revisit this place before our leave.   We ate an ice cream, which in flavour was nice but it lacked quantity- the scoop was really small. Besides this, we had to pay extra for it to be in a cone (which has never happened to me). In addition, we couldn’t sit down on the tables as they were “only for dinning” .. the name of the restaurant is literally about gelatos so this definitely didn’t make any sense, specially considering there were a lot of free tables.   I feel like the restaurant makes food for the customers to enjoy rather than only profit and make money. Everything had a high quality feel to it and I was very impressed by the dinner and ice cream options. The staff was friendly and I must say it was an overall positive experience.   All I have to say is we enjoyed this restaurant so much we ate there 2 days in a row (of the 4 days we were there) lol both days we ordered the same exact meal - linguine bolognese and caprese pizza… so good.   Extremely rude manager. Kept us waiting for over more than an hour without any explanation after already have waited for more than 30 min in line to get seated. She gave us an explanation that the orders where taken by oldest table however this was not true. After we complained she let us wait even longer. When she finally came I asked if we would order a starter if the main dish would take longer. Since her bad English she did not understood my questions so I asked it again. This is when she got really angry and accused me of treating her like rabbits and she did not had to take this kind of behavior of me while I was just asking a simple food question after waiting for more than an hour to order a simple starter or main dish. Unfortunately for the staff that they have to work for such an angry aggressive unkind manager that has no feeling for customers or any hospitality in her hart. Instead of giving her understanding for the situation she got even more angry and tried to give us a bill for a simple glass of water….. Unless you like to wait 2+ hours for your food and get yelled at by the manager I do not recommend this place at all.   Very busy and so a bit of a wait for service but the staff are lovely and did warn of the wait on arrival. Once ordered the pizza didn't take too long and it was excellent! Thin crispy base, perfectly cooked toppings and delicious (plenty of other options available on the menu but when you see the pizzas coming out you'll get food envy if you choose something else!) I had the funky bbq chicken with added chorizo & olives. Negroni was spot on and it's a nice little sunset spot too.   Very friendly and fast service. Quite many vegan options which are very clearly labelled. The foccacia (which is basically a cheese-less pizza with garlic) is a 5€ side dish that's larger than most pizzas I had in my life and therefore will serve as a very delicious main dish for most people.   We were on holidays for 2 weeks and I‘ve got to admit that we went there for dinner most of the time because it was SO GOOD! It‘s a great place to enjoy Italian food - we tried it all: pizza, pasta, salads, desserts, ice cream. Everything was delicious! On top of that the staff was very, very nice and friendly even during super busy times. It people are queuing up in the evening - it‘s definitely worth to wait and the staff will try their best.   One of the best restraunts we have every been too. The food was out of this world, the wait staff were friendly and service. Food came out of the kitchen quickly but the meal was not rushed in any way. We went for dinner on two occasions during our stay and both times really enjoyed our meal. The ice creams were all to die for and with so many amazing choices so if having a meal there then leave some room for as many scoops as possible or stop in on many occasions for ice cream whilst by the harbour.
