  We asked for a Mango Iced Tea and a Limoncello served with Pizza Parma and a Lasagna. The service was fast and the place wasn't crowded at all. The proportions seemed overwhelming at first but we ended up surprised due to how well balanced the meal was. 10/10.   We are always suspect of a restaurant on the water, anywhere in our travels. But this was not a tourist trap. It had really great food with very helpful staff. And it's location off the water provides spectacular views of Porto. During the day and at night. And like most places in Europe, they do not rush you out the door.   The food and customer service was so great that we went two nights in a row for dinner. The menu has many options to choose from and is very affordable. The staff is very respectful and attentive. The location is perfect, the food is very flavorful and freshly cooked. The manager, Alexandra, is very kind, attentive and helpful. She has a very nice presence that can be seen in how she manages the restaurant and treats the employees and guests. Highly recommend!   We found the head waitress very grumpy and unwelcoming. We had struggled to find somewhere with pizza so we waited. There were tables for 4 and because we were 2 she made us wait and eventually separated the tables. When I asked for a glass of water she wouldn’t give me one and wanted me to buy bottled.   I’ve never come across such rude, and unwelcoming staff. The manager and staff are extremely selective about who they let in. It seems they only let non locals in. We were not offered any dessert menus after our plates were cleared. There were at least 5 staff there, and we were completely ignored.   The food was subpar at best, the mushroom risotto was tough, the lasagna was bland. From the beginning, the manager was arrogant, both to people with reservations and without, I went there for a birthday dinner and they made the whole party wait for me (looking at me barred on the outside) because they wouldn't let me in until the manager came to speak to me, and even then, she was super snobby.   Walked past this place around midday and thought we would stop in for lunch. We were confused how to enter as the outside restaurant is blocked off by a cordon which didn’t feel terribly inviting but we waited patiently nonetheless, hoping someone would come to seat us. The restaurant wasn’t busy (maybe at 20% capacity). After 5 minutes of waiting and trying unsuccessfully to catch the eye of the staff, we figured we would go up and ask for a table. After we walked under the cordon, the manager walked straight up to us and asked us to leave immediately. We asked why and advised that we just wanted to have lunch… she repeated her request and said that the restaurant was not for us and to leave immediately. I was surprised that she could actually see us from her high horse, but we got the message. After reading other reviews it’s sad to see that this is a consistent issue and nothing has been done to remedy it.   We had a good time there, there where few minor issues like we didn’t get our cutlery changed after eating a starter (we should have gotten clean fork and knife before a main course). Starters were great, we had prosciutto e melone and garlic focaccia with mozzarella - both stunningly good. Main courses we rate 6/10 - I got penne arabbiata, pasta was way overcooked and there was way too much fat in the sauce. Tasted good though. My fiancée ordered gnocchi with tomato sauce and mozzarella. Again, tasted good but dish looked like it spent few minutes too long in the oven, they baked it slightly too long so everything got little bit dry. Shame, cause taste-wise everything looked great, but too many mistakes when cooking ruined the dishes little bit in my opinion. Would give this place another chance though, cause they had taste on point.   Tried to enter the outdoor restaurant. Couldn't see how we could get over the material tape around the restaurant and so went around the back. Couldn't find a way to get in and went back to the front. Couldn't see any wait staff and so we walked under the tape and walked up to ask for a table. A waitress came up to us and said "I must ask you to leave right now". When we enquired further saying we wanted to eat here and couldn't find an entrance way she repeated "you must leave right now". Once we were outside the tape she directed us two meters and said "this is the spot but I must ask you to leave". Incredibly rude tone and manner. I'd say, nothing special. The waitresses seemed a bit lost, food is mediocre, and prices are a bit higher than in other places. That's funny you must be assisted by a waiter to left the place.   I am not the kind of person that usually leaves reviews, however was extremely disappointed with the service and the waitress/receptionist in this restaurant. Writing the review in English since the restaurant is purely tourist-oriented. Saturday summer night, we were a couple looking to have dinner and almost full restaurant. Upon arrival, I asked the waitress how long it’d take for a table, she arrogantly said “I can’t guess”. We still waited for couple of minutes since we saw some people leaving the restaurant and couple of available tables, when asking her why we couldn’t sit in one of the many available times she said “they are tables for 4 people, you are only 2 so you need to wait”. Complete no sense, Restaurant only looking for big groups to squeeze tourists’ pockets. Two things: 1) this waitress does not have the profile to be welcoming people in a restaurant; 2) be more respectful with your customers, specifically with Portuguese ones, and if you continue doing this you will get more 1-star reviews from others like myself. Não faz sentido, o restaurante só procura grandes grupos para apertar o bolso dos turistas. Duas coisas: 1) essa garçonete não tem perfil para receber pessoas em restaurante; 2) seja mais respeitoso com os seus clientes, especificamente com os portugueses, e se continuar a fazer isso receberá mais avaliações de 1 estrela de outras pessoas como eu.

  I’ve been staying in Gaia for 3 weeks and I can say with confidence that San Martino is the absolute best food, amazing portions and reasonably priced. 10 Stars from me! Their Insalatta Mista (mixed salad) is beautifully presented, delicious and large!You could not get a salad anywhere else, this good for such a great price (E7.). I ordered the Tagliatelle with cream and seafood. Seafood was super fresh, no fishiness. Scrumptious! The staff is welcoming and friendly. The owner (I believe) is there supporting staff and checking in with the patrons. Last but not least, the restrooms are crisp and clean! Major bonus. It is so high on my list I have come back 4 times for either lunch or dinner.   We discovered this little gem by accident. We were six hungry adults who needed to eat before Port wine tasting. They were able to seat us right away inside. The service and the food were amazing.   I spent a wonderful 3 hours over lunch with Alexandra of S. Martini restaurant. We are on an AMA river cruise I tried the Sangria which was the best I ever had with fresh fruit! An enormous charcuterie platter with olives and cheeses which my husband loved! Then we had the 4 cheese gnocchi which was clearly homemade and delicious. I thought Alexandra was the owner as she was attentive to every detail as restaurant filled to capacity! Beautiful spot to look over at Porto. And she worked on my Portuguese which was fun!   Fabulous restaurant. We were in porto for a few days and came across this place. We had a large party of 22 people and the resturant gave us a lovely room upstairs with a wonderful view.   Very disappointing experience. We had the Tagliatelle al Tartufo which was bland and drenched in cooking oil. There were two small pieces of truffle as decoration on each plate which obviously wasn’t enough to make the dish taste anything like truffles. Not only did I expect more for 19€, but it was plain and simply really bad food. I want to say that our waiter was extremely attentive and friendly and offered to speak to his manager to offer free dessert. He’s the only reason this is not a 1 star review - of course the quality of the food is not the wait staff’s fault. Definitely don’t recommend going there for a meal though.   Stumbled upon this lovely restaurant after a port wine tour and it was just what we needed. We chose to eat inside and had the full attention of the staff. It was warm, the pizza was delicious and the attentive staff was the icing on the cake. We had to wait to get in as nobody cares if you wait.It took forever until we got a seat even the restaurant was far from full. Later, we observed a lot of people leaving as nobody cared to welcome them inside the restaurant. The entrance is blocked so you have to wait to be seated. We received solid service on both visits, but we did notice another larger party struggling to get the service they required. I was made to feel welcome and special. Dito isto, eles fazem o possível para resolver todas as dificuldades. Os preços são um pouco altos, mesmo para uma parte muito turística do Porto. Não contam com um atendimento rápido e luminoso, mas contam com qualidade(como todos os restaurantes desta zona da cidade)

  Found it hard to find veggie friendly good food in porto but this place had a nice selection & really nice friendly service.   Nice Italian place with a great view of the river and of Porto. We made a reservation, but they are great at accommodating groups. The menu also lists all of the allergens.   Amazing place, great pizzas and appetizers, light and rich in taste. The dough was excellent. The view from the second floor is to die for, one can see the river, Porto view and the famous bridge. The server just told me that there is a problem with their system... 2 hours later... and still no food. I think I could have slaughtered a cow and collected eggs from a chicken faster than this... and at least then I'd still have food in my stomach.   Very good Italian style pizza. Fresh ingredients, very accommodating owner. For whatever reason they don't provide tap water when requested so you have to buy 'bottled' that they refill.   Very enjoyable location overlooking Porto across the Douro River. Very good Italian food in Portugal . Friendly service and clean. Best to have late dinner there to take advantage of beautiful scenery of Porto at night. Ice cream shop just next door for the sweet tooth. Highly recommended.   This restaurant looked very nice from the outside, but that was all. Even though there were only 8 other people there (with almost all of them already served) it took more than 10 minutes to bring us the menu and more than 10 minutes without coming to take our order, even after multiple polite hints to the employees, after which we left. We also overheard another couple complaining that they waited a very long time for two simple pizza's and that when they finally got them, they were cold. Such a nice restaurant deserves better staff. Probably the most unfriendly and unprofessional people we've met in the otherwise fantastic Porto.
