  We ate here while walking the fisherman’s trail and the restaurant was recommend by our hotel owner. Atmosphere is cosy and inviting right from the front entrance. The restaurant is rustic and very charming within. Someone has put a lot of thought into all the details. Service was impeccable and added another layer to the dining experience. Our waiter was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. He recommended a bottle of wine for us that was amazing. He checked with us on price before he made his selection. Servings are very large and were served to us from the serving plate at the table which again was very charming. My husband had the black pork with clams which he enjoyed and said was nicely spiced but he found it very rich (not a complaint just a point to be aware of). I had a monkfish stew with was served with rice in a tomato based sauce along with clams and shrimp. This was a very hearty dish which I enjoyed but it was also rich. A wonderful restaurant and an overall memorable dinner. Comi um ensopado de tamboril que foi servido com arroz ao molho de tomate junto com amêijoas e camarões. Este foi um prato muito farto que gostei, mas também era rico. Um restaurante maravilhoso e um jantar memorável.

  Amazing find!!! Delicious food, super friendly service and great room. Waiter was able to fit us in on a busy Friday lunch but definitely make a reservation if you know you're coming.   Incredible food, wine and service. We were lucky in the shoulder season and popped in to find a table. Try the black pork fillets over charcoal and the Dourada Golden Bream.   Went here for our 25th wedding anniversary celebrations whist on a cycling trip Lisbon to Algarve. Our route took os to this lovely town of Vila Nova de Milfontes. The cycling company (Cycling Rentals) had recommended it as a special place for a special meal. It did not disappoint. We were in the main front area but we noticed there are many rooms to the restaurant. The front was the nicest! Ambiance was lovely, food amazing - we had oysters, the grilled squid, grouper. Our waiter Fransisco could not have been more helpful with wine and other information. Ended with first Porto of the holiday. Expensive to but worth it for a special occasion!   This place is just fantastic. Ambiance, service, wine and food. The moment you enter this restaurant you know that someone is running this place with love and knowledge. A huge wine selection, very well educated waiters giving perfect recommendations. The food is prepared with love and wisdom.   Service was dreadful, 2 hours to have one course meal -the servers themselves were very pleasant but it was clear there wasn't enough staff and there's also a distinct difference in sitting in the front room and the back room - we were sat in the back room which was hot and had the football playing on a large tv where as the front was quiet and had a nice atmosphere. I ordered the cod and clams with noodles and beans, it wasn't good, cod was very fishy and the sauce was bland, so disappointing. Partner had the giant shrimp in garlic which was delicious.   A welcoming atmosphere fabulous service and oh so delicious food!!!! My friend had the white fish and vegetables - they served it at the table - deboning it. I am vegetarían so I was served rice and bean - crazy good! And vegetables that were so delicious I now know that life is fabulous without meat! I enjoyed a local wine also. Such a nice evening. Make a reservation ahead of time - the have 3 seatings at set times - we took the 7:30 pm 1930 hr time - the first for the evening. It was perfect!!!   Food was really good, nothing to complain. The meat was really good as well as the dessert. Aside from that (hence the three stars), we never had been treated differently from other customers based on how much we ordered. Different glasses just because the wine we ordered wasnt as expensive - this, considering that the wine chart started at 12 euros. The table right behind us - more people, larger order - got plenty of attention and all of the bells and whistles, while we had to go through improperly served wine and more. Staff very corteous and polite, but unfortunately for a place that has a tag mentioning It was elected "One of the best restaurants in the world", it still has a long ways to go when it comes to keeping treatment level among all tables.   The restaurant is an attractive space with an inviting atmosphere, and the food was great. In particular, the trio of mushrooms, the “secretos de porco preto” and the basil and lime mousse dessert stood out. However the service was exceptionally disappointing and did much to take away from our dining experience. We felt like an afterthought, which was different to the attentive and generous service the rest of the room seemed to be receiving. Only when we waved for someone’s attention or asked for something as someone was picking dishes up, did we seem to get any help. And even then, it seemed like they were doing us a favour, or that they’d rather be helping someone else. Sadly the restaurant did not live up to its reputation. While I really enjoyed the food (hence the 2 stars), I’ll spend my money elsewhere next time.   This was the nicest meal of our entire trip. The location was very central, the interior of the restaurant feels cozy and refined. The wine selection is excellent and the staff made good recommendations for what to drink. We started with bread, olives and soft cheese, all of which were nice. Then for the main course we had the lamb, the fish soup, and sautéed mushrooms with sweet potatoes. Every item was perfect. The lamb was tender with delicious flavor. The fish stew had nice flavor, a unique dish we hadn’t tried before. The mushrooms were rich and fabulous.   What a treat this was! Our tour guide in Lisbon recommended we stop here for lunch. We got to the restaurant before they opened and debated whether or not it was worth waiting. We are so glad we did. The ambiance and decor in the restaurant was light and bright. The menus were offered in English and Portuguese. The wait staff was efficient, friendly, and attended wonderfully to all our needs. My husband tried the grilled cuttlefish, I had the sea bass. They were excellent but I wish one of us had tried their stews or curries as well - they looked delicious at neighboring tables. The below-average food was way overpriced. The savoury food was too salty, the rice was undercooked, and dishes took forever to be delivered to our table. The service was slow, the staff was quick to find excuses, and what happened next was unbelievable. I grabbed the first of 4 pieces of fried fish, and it was undercooked, raw in the middle. The restaurant was suposed to be totally full with an empty bartable for at least 10 persons. Finally we got to chairs at this table.   2 out of 5 stars. Had to book 24 hours in advance, which was no problem and easy to to. But on the actual night the service was slow, we had to remind out waiter about or order and in the end we got the bill before we got everything we ordered. The food was overall good, the starters were amazing, the main course was fine. Nothing special to be expected. We didn't wait for desert as we didn't want to be there another hour. The restaurant its self is beautiful, great location in the town and plenty of space. Well decorated throughout, the only problem was how surprisingly large it was (reminded me of the tardis from Dr. Who haha!). My partner is coeliac and has to be gluten free, there was options for her and they seemed to understand what it was by using a translation card. Mas na noite real o serviço foi lento, tivemos que lembrar o garçom sobre o pedido e no final recebemos a conta antes de recebermos tudo o que pedimos. A comida era no geral boa, as entradas eram incríveis, o prato principal era bom. Nada de especial que se possa esperar. Não esperamos pelo deserto, pois não queríamos estar lá por mais uma hora. O restaurante é lindo, ótima localização na cidade e muito espaço. Bem decorado por toda parte, o único problema era o quão surpreendentemente grande era (me lembrou dos tardis do Dr. Who haha!). Minha companheira é celíaca e não tem glúten, havia opções para ela e eles pareciam entender o que era usando um cartão de tradução. Eu recomendaria se você estivesse feliz em esperar, mas um jantar de 2 horas em um restaurante que parece não abrir antes das 20h não era o que eu esperava.

  A good restaurant that seems to be missing something in order to be a 5 star experience. First you need either to be lucky or to book early in advance in order to get a spot there (2 days before in my case). Then they have a couple of rooms where you can be seated and you can that the original room is the best looking one and if you’re lucky to be there then you will have a better experience. The menu is nice and big and the food was quite good, we asked the steak for two and also and an appetizer and the food was good enough but a bit overpriced in my opinion (and if you consider other restaurants around then it’s really overpriced). The wine list is quite good but again steeply overpriced, specially if you compare with other restaurants in the same town. The service was just good. The waitress was nice but always felt rushed which was also a bit of a letdown. Considering all this I’ll still say go and try it. I know I will again in the future just to make sure if it’s really a strong 4/5 or if it’s just a 4.   After i arrived in Milfontes very late i just went to the next restaurant in the area which was Tasco do largo. I just wanted a drink and a small dish but this obviously was not the right place to go as i didn't feel very welcome there. I was not about to spend a whole lot of money for a 3 course meal like the other people in the place and I think that was the "problem". The server brought me the food without even looking at me or saying anything which i found very rude. I really just wanted to leave because i felt uncomfortable but i coulnd't even get the attention of any server for 10 Minutes because they were ignoring me. The food was okay but not great and the place is very beautiful but i will definitely not return because it made me feel awful to be treated like that and i hope to find nicer places to go in this area.   It was ok. We had to wait a bit for our food and I felt that 16,50 for the clam rice I got was a bit high.   A truly great experience, even for children and vegetarians. The reception and service were most friendly and efficient, the grilled fish perfect, the mixed vegetarian dish my wife and daughter shared superb. The half portion grilled pork for our son was more like a full, the grilled pork tasty but a bit though, which however appears to be a local norm. The atmosphere is wonderfully lively with a mix of locals and tourists; you may watch the cooks, football on TV, or the artwork on the walls.
