  I had my first meal here upon arriving in Albufeira, I think it will be hard to find a better meal. I had the roasted sea bass, which was cooked to perfection with potatoes and some diced vegetables in a clay dish. Every mouthful was packed with taste and substance. I followed up with a simple desert. I highly recommend this place for tasty reasonably priced fresh food.   We ate at this restaurant this evening after reading some very promising reviews. I can only say that we were very disappointed! We spoke to George at front of house who was very enthusiastic about the ribs, but mid conversation, we were whisked into the restaurant by a waiter and there seemed to be some friction between the two of them. Not a great start. We have previously had some wonderful Portuguese sangria in other restaurants and decided to order it again. It arrived, much smaller than previous jugs and it was disappointingly bland and more expensive! I asked for a little more liquor to be added, but there wasn’t much improvement. I decided to try the ribs with chips and salad, but soon after my order, I was told that the ribs were finished. I then changed my order to black pork, chips and salad. It arrived without the salad and was quite dry and uninteresting. My wife ordered lamb chops with vegetables and potatoes and it was ok but quite basic and not Portuguese in flavour. It was like eating in a Bernie inn or basic uk steakhouse. The service was uninspiring and for 55 euros, not worth the money. I must emphasise that we really like good food and looking around the restaurant, other people seemed happy enough to eat there. I think that the clientele that the restaurant caters for would be very happy with the food, but for me, while in Portugal, I expect much better. Resolvi experimentar a costela com batata frita e salada, mas logo após o pedido me disseram que a costela estava pronta. Mudei então meu pedido para porco preto, batatas fritas e salada. Chegou sem a salada e estava bastante seco e desinteressante. Minha esposa pediu costeletas de cordeiro com legumes e batatas e foi ok, mas bastante básico e não tinha sabor português. Era como comer em uma pousada Bernie ou em uma churrascaria básica do Reino Unido. O serviço foi pouco inspirador e por 55 euros, não valeu o dinheiro gasto. Devo enfatizar que gostamos muito de boa comida e olhando ao redor do restaurante, outras pessoas pareciam felizes em comer lá. Penso que a clientela que o restaurante atende ficaria muito satisfeita com a comida, mas para mim, enquanto estiver em Portugal, espero muito melhor.

  Have been coming to Donaldo’s for the last seven years and the food has always been superb. The meat and seafood dishes are fantastic along with friendly staff and great service make this a must visit when in Albufeira.   We are so glad that we followed this suggestion. A couple of negative reviews worried us, but most were positive, so we gave it a try. It was great! Friendly service, efficient and attentive staff. I felt quite special. The food was delicious. My husband had swordfish with potatoes and vegetables. It was moist and delicious, and really affordable. I had the cataplana with pork, clams and prawns, which came with fries ( a bit strange to combine those, but the fries were good). I also ordered garlic bread to soak up all the juices from my meal. It was for one person, but my husband helped me finish it off. All yummy and plentiful, and again affordable. The swordfish was €18-50 (in The Netherlands that meal would have been €30+). My seafood was €19-50 (in The Netherlands I probably would have paid €45+ for such a dish). We ordered a large bottle of water for €2-80, and colas which were the large size, we expected the smaller size for the price. All in all, we were thrilled and intend to go back soon. Meus frutos do mar custavam entre 19 e 50 euros (na Holanda eu provavelmente teria pago mais de 45 euros por um prato assim). Pedimos uma garrafa grande de água por 2 a 80 euros, e colas que eram de tamanho grande, esperávamos o tamanho menor pelo preço. Ao todo, ficamos emocionados e pretendemos voltar em breve.

  George the front man is a charmer- captivating, fun and worth more than he’s paid for sure, a goldmine of a PR guy; very fun. The service is lovely- prompt ,and attentive. The food is great and the prices reasonable. Our only issue is we were asked immediately if we wanted water on the table and responded yes. And were charged for it! Quite certain that considering all tap water in Portugal is wonderful, fresh and clean; it was tap water in the Donald’s bottle. That was actually petty and kind of insulting so has dropped our review to 4 stars.   We visited Donaldo's twice during our visit to Albufiera, on the Algarve in Portugal. It is easily the best restaurant we have found. The Staff were all incredibly friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about their food. The food was excellent on both our visits. A party of 4, and all of us having different meals and starters each time. Highly recommend a visit.   Was looking for a place for dinner, as I was browsing the menu one of the staff came over and explained the specials. Was particularly sold on the fresh meat and fish on display at the front. I had the grilled sardines for starter (as I was told they are best from the end of May) and one of the specials - rump steak (comes with sides). They give a lot of meat on a plate, so excellent value for money. The staff are very friendly and genuinely seem to care about your dining experience (even for a lone diner like me). Traditional Portuguese cuisine that is an absolute must when you're in Albufeira.   Wish I had found Donaldos on day one of my holiday instead of the last day. Great authentic Portuguese restaurant on the top of the strip in New Town. The food is simple and delicious and staff are great. If you get tired of the dreadful Portuguese version of bad English food go to Donaldos.   As per most reviews, we mainly decided to go here because of the fabulous George who we met outside and helped us get a taxi. As promised we returned the next day. The food was delicious and even allowed to make amendments to my choices. The only negative was the waiters hung around too much, presumably to get us out early to get new people in which understand to make money but it was a little off-putting for some of our table.   We went here last night after George the main man invited us in.. we went to have a look around first but ended up back at Donaldo's and we're so glad we did. We shared a tomahawk steak for £60 with 4 sides and peppercorn sauce. (It was massive) Nicest steak ever and such a lovely atmosphere. Might not have the glitz and glam on the outside, but the food is 5*. Definitely recommend Will be going again before we fly back to the UK George keep doing what you're doing! Ash! The starters were great ... best grilled sardines I've ever had. Garlic mushrooms were so good that i drank the juice as well. My seas bass was cooked perfectly and was moist, and tasty wifes ribs were great . The place didn't look as fancy as the restaurants next to them or above, but the food is levels above !!as Jorge said, dont be fooled by the bling above. Was looked after well by the staff.   We came here a couple of weeks ago when we were in Portugal. George was so welcoming at the door and ensured we were happy with where we were seated.   Where do I begin, The host chuck em in George, is just fantastic for me he is the face of Donaldo's, you could have just eaten somewhere and he'd still find away to get you inside. The food was unreal 👌, the portion sizes are good, the flavours are amazing and there is something for everyone on that menu, from kids to the fussiest of eaters. This was all ruined though after a 90 Yr old could was brought in and yet there was no table for them, they was asked to sit in a corner on 2 seats with out a table which was just moved for man who was with a party of 5 (local) for me he could of just squeezed on the end of the table of 4. Anyways after 20 mins the little old couple who had been dining there over 20 years got up and left, no apologies from the owner or an waiting on staff, as the restaurant was full. The only person who was truly gutted was George. The man couldn't apologise enough to them. Great food great atmosphere yet for me all that ruined due that one incident.   "If google allowed minus ten..." Well, not really that bad indeed... Place is packing tables like fish in the barrel, impossible to get through, they do not think and sit handicapped people all the way in the back, so when they need to leave - everyone has to standup and move away and even then motor scooters "skillfully driven" by waiters hit everything on its way. We just started to eat (after good 30 minutes wait for SOUP - and it was just a water that they likely wash their dishes in - totally disgusting) and our table was knocked off by that scooter and soup and beer was all over me and table - and not a single waiter offered to clean it up, they all turned away like they did not see what is happening. And then, right away, they brought appetizer and put it in the puddle of soup and beer still in the table and just walked away. It is hard to get a good help nowadays..especially in Portugal's "family" businesses - they cater to tourists and tourists are different every day. We just stood up and walked out and, you guessed it, waiter run after us demanding payment for soup that he spilled onto us. Hilarious ...not. Of course we just continued to walk and will NEVER be in that joke of a place again. And - REALLY annoying how they make people uncomfortable trying to pull passersby in. We had the prawn starter which is worth the €14 (I was concerned!) then we had the ribs and the piri piri chicken and salad. All very reasonably riced. There was NOTHING left on our plates. The way they cook the ribs (which George will no doubt tell you) means they melt in your mouth but aren’t sloppy. Sooo delicious!   I had the special of Aged Sirloin Steak, my wife had the Fillet Steak and our little kiddo had Spaghetti Bolognese. All 3 dishes were so good. The steaks were asked to be medium done, they came out perfectly and were so tender. The bolognese was also very tasty, I had some of the kids as the portion was big. This is something that can be said for all dishes, the side dishes with the steaks were a generous portion too. We will definitely visit again... and a special mention to host Jorge at the front of house.   Where to start... If Google allowed it it would be 10 stars. To start with Jorge is the most welcoming and friendly host, you couldn't wish to meet a nicer person. The service is amazing, the waiters are absolutely brilliant and very attentive. You could not ask for more helpful and friendly staff. The owner is without a doubt brilliant, I have never been to a restaurant where the owner is so attentive and friendly it is an absolute credit to the establishment. We have been visiting Albufeira for 10 years and have missed this hidden gem. Since our first vist on Monday we have dined here 3 times and the quality and standard is amazing. As a steak lover I have had some good steaks but the rib eye from Donaldo's is the best I have ever eaten. Asked for it to be cooked medium and that is precisely how it was served. With out doubt 'THE BEST STEAK' I have ever had. Thoroughly enjoyed dining at Donaldo's and only sorry it has taken 10 years to try. Already looking forward to our return next year.   Horrible staff. Waited nearly an hour to get a menu and we ended up asking for some which was not the problem. My problem was after everyone at the table received a menu a second waiter comes and gives everyone at the table 2 more of the same menu each in an angry manner.   Started of Very welcoming the camp bloke at the door was very nice and a pleasure to be around a good laugh. The starters were fine but i ordered the most expensive steak for one person they had on the menu T-bone aged, i ordered it medium rare it came out well done on outside and COLD and blue/rare on inside now that is not medium rare the meat had clearly been kept at refrigerated temperatures and then thrown on to a red hot grill too attempt this so the chef clearly has no idea how to cook, i sent it back to be cooked again correctly both mine and my partners steaks, they arrived back red hot and the fat was blistered on the steak but still raw against the bone. After sending my food back the owner and the manager were both rude didnt speak or look at us once after that no thankyou or anything not even offered us a small discount or a complimentary drink for ruining our valentines day meal. Extremely disappointed by this place ruined our evening meal.   Came across Donald's by chance, as the Indian restaurant was closed. So glad we did. We had Garlic cheese bread to start and a sharing Sea Bass with vegetables, salad and chips.   I am not sure why this place gets good reviews. It was not good at all and very expensive. The steak Portuguese style was too salty, not cooked well with big chunks of under cooked garlic pieces on top. It seemed like instead of taking the time to cook the steak properly, they just had it boil in its own juices making it tough and without much great flavor. My friend had the squid and it wasn't cleaned. The cartilage was still in the bodies, it was super salty and fishy tasting. The only reason I gave it two stars is because the people were nice.   Went for dinner with the family and had a wonderful experience. The kids became seafood lovers during this trip and enjoyed here the shrimps, clams and squid very much.
