  Finally, I made it for Sunday lunch! This place had been on my list for long. We sat inside. The atmosphere was very quaint and traditional, like that of a seafood tavern from an era gone by. The food was simple and Delicious! Ordered bacon croquets which were very smoky and absolutely tasty. The fried beans with mayo was great. Extra mayo is charged. But it was so good, I ordered.   Worst experience in Cascais so far. Staff is terrible, as if they are doing a huge favor by serving you. After 5 minutes a waiter “dropped” the menu on the table and went outside the restaurant for a smoke. Others waiters saw me waiting and did nothing.   I've eaten steaks in the top steakhouses all over the world, and this local place blew them out of the water. One of the very best steaks I've ever had, and for €12, just crazy. Cannot recommend this enough! If in Cascais, just go here. I don't write reviews, but I needed to share. Lovely staff too.   Yes it’s summer, yes it’s a popular and good place and yes they must be understaff… just like the rest of Portugal…. but yes they were extremely rude, not helpful and didn’t care about our table at all! We left to a different place and ended up eating locally somewhere else! Don’t show up without reservation, even when tables are empty they don’t make the effort to accommodate you, on the contrary. And if they don’t answer the phone (I called for placing a reservation) is bc they are too busy, as I was told by the manager….!!! Maybe I was just very unlucky but the place is not so good for such an attitude from the staff…. Wasn’t my 1st time here as I’m from Portugal, but definitely the last one… they are loosing their touch!   After visiting the same restaurant but in the Market location we thought as we were coming with a bigger group we would go to this location. BIG MISTAKE. Staff here are shocking rude, 4 people got their steaks raw after stating well done, it then took over 30mins to get those steaks back, 1 person didn't even get their order until everyone else had finished. 1 steak went "missing" after it was sent back so I guess that was given to another table, chips were cold, overall the food was not the same standard as the central Cascais location. After saying that we thought this our experience was bad we got told that the restaurant was busy?! This is not a good enough excuse when they had empty tables and it was a weekday evening. Really arrogant staff, NOT ONE SIGNLE APOLOGY for any of this, do not recommend this location at all.   It's ok. A second visit, the first of which I had good memories but alas disappointed in the second visit. Arriving early as I knew it gets busy and I had missed lunch we were greeted by friendly staff. I ordered morcela which was tasty, although I'd preferred a little more charred and a couple beers . Although service was friendly, taking into account there was 4 front house staff and only 2 tables getting a refill was pretty slow, and I would have drunk another 3-4 beers if the staff hadn't just disappeared . Main of steak in peppercorn sauce; the steak was still bleeding profusely into the sauce - i.e it hasnt been rested correctly, and slightly enemic over salted chips. Second main of squid on spit ; disappointed to receive a mix of squid and prawns ( prawns dry and I suspect not cooked from raw ) - I'd rather just had squid as it was the ingredient named on the menu. Accompanied by an under seasoned like of greens. I enjoyed it but .... I ordered squid. We ordered a few dishes and everything needed more seasoning and just generally lacked flavour. The server also brought food that was “for the table” but showed up on our bill at the end of the meal despite not ordering it and not disclosing that these items are not complimentary. Sneaky move that takes advantage of tourists. When we confronted the manager about it, his reply was “we told you but you just didn’t understand”.   Really tasty Portugese bar/snack/tapas style food, in a bustling and charming patio area. Staff are straightforward but polite and considerate. Service can definitely be slow, but they let you know what you're in for when they tell you that there are only two seatings a night (8 pm and 10 pm) - they are planning for each party to take two full hours, and won't really be rushed along faster than that. Definitely the sort of place to linger over fried clams and beer with friends when you're in the mood for a fun night out. The "couvert" (cover charges for bread, butter, samosas, other little snack items) is pretty high, and it is a little hilarious to be nickel and dimed €.45 for each packet of butter, but it's part of the Portugese food culture and the prices are clearly listed on the menu. We just had the bread and butter and were not charged for any of the items we didn't touch. Honestly, I am not going to complain about the cover charges when a large portion of a delicious main (we had tuna steak and octopus rice) only runs around €11.   If you are a tourist (maybe even a local) you will be scammed!! We came in, were very friendly and had a good laugh with the staff. After some average food and slow, slow service ( and they were rude to us) they charged us for water!! Bloody water!!! Charged us for butter, bread and all these things they carted out to us thinking they were free. We even commented very loudly in front of them “how nice that it’s on the house”. After a lengthy argument and saying that we were horrible people, “don’t get the culture” we left very upset and quite scared as they made threats about being in the area and their county we hurried away.   Hostile. If I could give it 0 stars, I would. Our waiter was rude and ignorant from the get go, not what you expect from a ‘friendly’ local restaurant. After we were seated, we were given an english menu and a vegetarian among us asked what she could have. The waiter rolled his eyes and responded rudely asking ‘what do you want, like what?’. Already unimpressed she was left to order only chips and battered beans, not the most fulfilling meal for an evening dinner. We had bread, butter, samosas and croquettes placed on the table without ordering so we assumed they were free, like every other restaurant around the world! We were then charged for them, told if we didn’t pay they would call the police. A solid 10 minutes of threats and arguing later, we reluctantly paid the bill so we could leave and carry on with, what had been, a lovely day. As we were leaving, we were told we were ‘in the wrong country’ and called ‘yanks’. Considering we were ENGLISH tourists, I find this insulting and hostile. The food is always fresh, the prices are still reasonable and the atmosphere is laid back, everything to look for in a traditional Portuguese dinner. Make sure to share many petiscos (tapas plates) with your table for the full culinary experience. This restaurant has opened 2 other locations around Cascais, but in my opinion, the original one is still the best one.   If you come to Cascais you need to visit this small "tapas style" Portuguese restaurant. You will find amazing food but probably not a table (its always very busy) try to book it for safe!   Good simple food similar to Tapas. Very informal setting, mainly full of locals. Go several times and work your way through the menu. I particularly enjoy the scrambled egg and àsparagus.   We booked, but they had clearly forgotten. We were tabled with others and very cramped. They forgot to bring one of our dishes but didn't forget to try and charge us for it.
