  Lovely place in a super nice, peaceful, and beautiful street. We found the place completely at random because we heard some people playing live instruments in the square just at the beginning of the street (they were absolutely amazing) and we decided to walk up to explore the street. We were there with a big group of friend so we basically tried the entire menu, needless to say everything was amazing. The staff was very kind and helpful in guiding us on what to take. Overall I would suggest the Tabla Arcada (my friends got the Mista and it was amazing as well), ad then the sardines, which are absolutely incredible. Definitely recommended.   Really great place. Everything was fantastic, but the sausage and mozzarella pastry, brie bites, and chocolate mousse were the biggest highlights. And of course the Douro wine! There were lots of locals dining in, but the staff spoke English and were very welcoming to tourists too. The interior is nice and cozy, and prices were great.   Love this place. Excellent service with amazing food. Just my favorite restaurant in Coimbra. The location is awesome too. When we move there in a few months time it will be a restaurant we will visit often. Definitely worth the 5 stars and higher.   Food is ok based on the prices charged. Services not ok as obviously the waiters didn’t want to give us a table. We were told to wait for 45 minutes because of other reservations before us. It was v nice that a couple gave us their table when they were leaving. The waiter still validated the warning but all the way we didn’t see any other guests coming in but only leaving.   I was looking for a restaurant that had gluten free options marked, as it always makes life so much easier. We lucked out completely with this restaurant. Not only was it clear what had gluten, more importantly, everything was delicious! Our favourites were the Padrón peppers, the Morcela da biera, and the Pica Pau with some delicious wine. And although we were enjoying the outdoor table, luckily a rainstorm sent us inside and we loved the cozy atmosphere and beautiful Roman arches. Thank you for such a great meal!   Came for lunch at recommendation of lodging host. BE CAREFUL IF USING NON-EURO CREDIT CARD, the following event marred an otherwise excellent lunch: Paid with contactless US credit card. Didn't look closely at receipt until after we left. Saw that though I had not been asked (neither by the cashier nor by the credit card machine), Arcada had done the euro-to-dollar conversion. Since they do the conversion at 4% over the going rate, Arcada earned a little commission at my expense. I have had to do the double-no response to the credit card terminal questions at a few other restaurants in Portugal in order to avoid this, but at Arcada either the cashier did one "yes" response himself or it happened automatically. Small amount but disappointing. Other than that: FOOD: 4.0. Sardines excellent, sautéed veggies good, Arada cheese plate very good. AMBIANCE: 3.5. Comfortably grungy. Despite ordering plenty of food, we felt rushed out by the staff/owner to clear our table for new customers. This left a bad after taste to our experience, especially since we kept ordering food and thus felt justified in occupying the table. Wanting to serve new customers should not go at the expense of already seated customers enjoying the food and their experience.   We had a wonderful dinner here last night. Rafael the manager was our server and as he had on previous visits make suggestions which did not disappoint. The four of had different selections from the menu and each of them were outstanding. The entire meal, wine and dessert were very reasonably priced. We’re sure to visit again and again whenever our travels bring us to this lovely town of Coimbra. We had the Gizzard Stew, mushroom, Pastry stuffed with sausage, Pardon Peppers, Citrus Salad with Duck, Spinach, Dessert Trio and wine. I wish I could post pictures here.   This was probably our 20th restaurant in our 34 days trip in Portugal. I gotta say it was my favorite meal and we had many lunches and dinners before this one either as a couple or as a family. The setting: you are in a tiny old Coimbra cobble street with one car or the other passing and squeezing by (my son found this hilarious) so it's rather special and reminded me of my days going out. The service: Rafael is amazing, he really cares about the place, about helping the customers choose the best for them, about the food. There was a trainee or new employee who was extremely nice and quick bringing what we needed at first for the hungry kids (4 and 7 years old so we have to manage well the "angryness). He was new but he was very good and we loved him! The food: now c'mon just order a bunch of portuguese "petiscos" (small plates) and indulge. We ordered quite a lot and nothing was bad so you cannot honestly get it wrong. Drinks: we had sangria which was the best in our entire trip. The kids had delicious fruits juices (the apple, lime and mint was super yummy) Now... this was my favorite meal as a family in Portugal and I don't know how to tell you why exactly. It is more of a feeling, it's intangible. It's the fact that we were super relaxed, the food arrived and made us happy, we didn't wait at all, they were attentive when we needed to ask for something.   Was looking for a great meal on my last day in Portugal. Very happy I found Arcada! The food was amazing; we ordered the sardine boat, octopus salad, blood sausage, and lime pie with port.   They had good food and would definitely recommend and eat here again. Probably one of the best restaurants in Coimbra center but I wouldn't say it's the finest I've had.   Loved the food. Traditional portuguese food, beautifully plated with great flavour. We only stayed in Coimbra for 2 days but ate there twice because of how happy we were with the experience. The workers are really nice and helpful. The restaurant was very busy but they managed to find a table for us. The food was so amazing that I forgot to take pictures , so that's why you only get pictures where we were almost done eating. We had the bread ( i guess selfmade because it was so good and tasty) , olives , sardine's, octopussalad, codfish with chickpeas,meet in a mustard sauce, salad , potatos , vegetables and the almond mouse ( you need to try this dessert ! ) . 3 beers and a bid water.   Thought we'd give it a try based on convenience and reviews. But the waiter, the cook and the manager must have had an "off" night: all the food we ordered came way too salty. The service was surly and condescending. The waiter lied to us by saying "tap water is dangerous here; it comes from the river and it's not clean...". When we asked to do a taste test comparing the bottled water with the tap water, he got mean and nervous. (Turns out the water tasted exactly the same and further inquiry taught us that the tap water and river water are both excellent quality.) Everything we ordered tasted as though it had been preserved in salt and then brushed off before serving. I could not eat more than one bite. The kooky waiter didn't seem surprised, just miffed.   We were actually looking for another tapas place when we stumbled across Arcada. It looked nice so we decided to give it a try. Glad we did! Quirky, well designed space with a great ambiance. Loved the cheese grater light fixtures! Our waiter was really friendly, guiding us through the menu and helping us select an appropriate wine. A really enjoyable evening.   Really nice place and food. The portions are quite big. So I got a cheese platter and a mozzarella olive bruschetta which in fact a slice of bread and therefore quite big. The service is really nice and the waiter happy to talk and explain everything you want to know. The menu is available in different languages that makes it easy for travelers to understand.   My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed have a Sunday afternoon repast here. I feel like an arse that I don't know our server's name so I can call him out for the great guy he is... patient, ready with recommendations, speaks excellent English - basically the perfect person to help a couple of American tourists looking for some great food and wine. We ordered mussels (very slightly over done but very tasty), octopus (served cold, very good), padron peppers (good with wine, would have been perfect with beer), stuffed mushrooms (tasty, lowest on my list though), smoked salmon bruchetta (solid). Many thanks for a great Sunday afternoon meal. We apologize for keeping you open past your normal lunch time - and serious props for not saying anything to us about it (we didn't even realize until we checked the hours to write this review).   Probably the slowest service in all our time in Portugal. The restaurant must have a deal with bigger tour groups because a table of 10 were being attended to while all other tables were being ignored. It was literally like watching the last supper!! Finally we got to order some table bread and even that took about 25 minutes to appear. I'd nearly have offered my kitchen services to slice the bread myself. Should have left there and then but we persisted on to the starters & main. When food arrived it was on the cold side. Tasted ok but when customer service is that bad it really sucks the enjoyment out of any meal. It even took forever for them to take the payment afterwards. We couldn't get out of there quick enough!   Best dining experience we had in Portugal. Excellent food, excellent wines (and other "bebes"), great ambient and very kindly staff. Before I write more adding some photos since they speak for themselves. Despite many recommendations we've chosen this place spotted while randomly wandering on less frequent streets. It is located less than 5 minutes of walking from the University, cathedral (Se Velha), main city square. It is located in very narrow street assuring that only at high noon you will not be sitting in pleasant shade, in very quite street with little pedestrians and virtually zero cars (only one we saw was delivering supplies to the restaurant). We've eventually ended up eating there twice and tried almost half of their menu. It is hard to recommend what to eat (all was great), but do not miss Moncorvao - pastry stuffed with Alheira sausage. Está localizado em uma rua muito estreita garantindo que somente ao meio-dia você não estará sentado em uma sombra agradável, em uma rua muito tranquila, com poucos pedestres e praticamente zero carros (apenas um que vimos estava entregando suprimentos para o restaurante). Acabamos comendo lá duas vezes e experimentamos quase metade do cardápio. É difícil recomendar o que comer (estava tudo óptimo), mas não perca o Moncorvão - pastel recheado com alheira. Bom apetite.

  Arcada provided fantastic traditional Portuguese food, wine and service at a reasonable price. The restaurant specializes in smaller dishes that can be shared amongst two or more people. In our case, we found four dishes and a salad to be the ideal amount of food. The quality of food was excellent. All of the dishes we sampled were delicous, but I would personally recommend the salmon brushetta, the octopus salad, and the stuffed mushrooms. We finished off our meal with a tasty traditional Portuguese flan for dessert. Finally, we found the staff to be very informative and friendly. Our waiter provided recommendations on wine, dishes and dessert that proved excellent. Five star food, five star service.   We went there for a birthday... Food just kept coming and coming...and coming...there was a point I was afraid it would only stop of I raised a white flag. And when the food was over... There were still desserts! Jokes aside if you go there prepare yourself for a food coma for less than 20 euros. I think it's a great place to go with friends and enjoy an evening out without paying too much money. The quality of the food is good and all is traditional Portuguese food, just make sure not to eat too much at the beginning cos the desserts are very good too! Acho que é um ótimo lugar para ir com os amigos e curtir uma noite sem gastar muito dinheiro. A qualidade da comida é boa e tudo é comida tradicional portuguesa, mas tome cuidado para não comer muito no início porque as sobremesas também são muito boas!

  Had an incredible meal at this lovely restaurant. Found it while wondering the back streets, there was no disappointment. Everything was incredible. Had a great cheese and meat plate and an octopus salad. Everything was perfect. Ambience was great, service was friendly and helpful.   Came here for lunch where we were immediately shown a table. It wasn't particularly busy but we were ignored for about 10 minutes while others that came after us we served.   Great food. It's not the cheapest tapas restaurant but the waiters recommend to take only two so it's perfect. Quality is really good, I had chorizo, mixed salad and awesome little bags with bacon and cheese in it. The waiters are super nice and the kitchen is fast.
