  It was early so not full which is possibly why it had little atmosphere. The food was very good but not to our tastes unfortunately. The staff were excellent.   We visited here on our first night in Faro so were excited to try Portuguese cuisine. The location is just perfect and the restaurant looked really nice. The waiter was friendly and service was good. We had the bread and olives were were ok bit our mains were poor. I had the fish wrapped in bacon on a bed of rice. The fish was so overcooked and dry, the bacon appeared to be ham which tasted bad. It was cover in some sort of sauce which I can only describe as a honey mustard salad dressing. Rice was mushy and overcooked. My partner had lamb cutlets which were also over cooked and dry. You can find much better food elsewhere in the area. Such a shame as we hoped the food would be as good as the location.   Came in for light lunch and ended up with ordering two deserts all for myself. Food was delicious. My goat cheese salad was really nice.   The location is very nice and the waiter showed us around inside. The food was good but not exceptional, my family ordered beef and lamb and it was both overcooked.   Arrived a day early to book a table and told we didn’t need one. Turned up to an empty restaurant and only offered a table outside. We sat with the dessert fridges in an empty restaurant to a tough steak. Very disappointed.   Very disappointing meal. We came here for the Cartaplanna, to sample traditional Portuguese cooking. The staff were very pleasant and the ingredients of the dish were excellent. However, they had been badly handled. We had the Octopus Cartaplanna. There was very little seafood flavour in the stock and the seafood itself was overcooked and therefore very rubbery. There was plenty of seafood in the dish but it was just not good. Our friends had the vegetarian Cartaplanna and they said it was 'okay'. For the prices charged we would expect much better.   The seafood was very very bad, cooked dry and hard with sand in the shelves, avocado mash, polenta all drained completely in the sauce, the avocado mash tasted like cheap guacamole from a jar from a cheap brand. We would totally not recommend it, but the staff was polite, the menu and pictures, the atmopshere was allright.   Very nice restaurant in the old town of Faro. We really enjoyed the quiet atmosphere, we had a table inside the restaurant, as there were plenty of mosquitoes outside. Since we were the only people sitting inside, we asked the staff to turn down the music and they were kind enough to do so! The food was very good, we had a seafood curry and a mix of vegetables. The painted tiles inside were beautiful and you can also enter the roof of the building from inside and have a nice overview of the old part of the city.   Right in the middle of the old town, the restaurant is usually packed but visited in the low season. If you are travelling in high season,best to call for reservation. I had the monkfish wrapped in bacon with mustard sauce. It was ok, not fantastic. The service was good and if in the old town, it's worth a try.   Having been passed this restaurants many times we decided to give it a try for lunch. We sat outside and were surprised at the quality of the food which started with sharing clams followed by duck and pork. With a lovely bottle of wine to was it down. The waiter was not what we expected, he was very dry but his witty comments were great and we had loads of fun. He then took inside to show us the history of the place which was fascinating in relation to the earthquake. He then let us go on the rooftop which had great views. All in all a great experience .   We walked up to the old town Faro and came across this restaurant. The food was delicious and the owner treated us with a smile. We sat outside to take in the view. Before we left the owner asked us to go inside to see the history of the building WOW we was so glad we did. He explained that most of the building was destroyed in the great earthquake that the Algarve suffered in the 17 hundreds . And a well that's a thousand years old.   Staff seem to not really care about the customers. The food is kinda disappointing since the location and the menu looks very good. We recognized that some of the people who were sitting around us were not really amused about their food. At one table Someone ordered a steak and sent it back to the kitchen 3 times.   This was a great restaurant we stumbled upon when exploring Old Town Faro. The salmon and pomegranate salad was the perfect dish for a lighter lunch - though still quite filling as they give you a decent amount of salmon. It was lovely to sit outside and enjoy the ambiance of being surrounded by the architecture, cobblestones, and even had someone stop by the play the guitar. The service was a bit slow but that has been our experience at most restaurants here. It seems to be connected to staff shortage.   I don’t even know where to start. Service was terrible, waiters didn’t really know how to start and also extremely rude, all of them. We waited 1Hour and 20 minutes (yes, really!) for a disgusting watery soup with entire vegetables that weren’t even been cut properly and were uneatably gigantic. Not to speak about the service. My children had to eat a fish soup in the tiny starter’s plate without even a spoon cause nobody took them . Obviously expensive without any reason. No apologies came.   From the outside it seems to have a cozy feel and good atmosphere. Once you sit down and observe things as they truly are, it’s a different experience. The waiters are really nice, but they are understaffed and simply cannot manage the amount of tables set out. We were looking forward to trying it out as people were queuing to get in, but it was a very disappointing experience for the over an hour wait - from ordering to receiving the food, quality was very poor for the price you’re paying.   Very nice family-run restaurant ideally located behind the cathedral Sé of Faro. The terrasse is great. We have tasted their fish and seafood cataplana, a traditional course similar to chowder. Fair quantity and quality. The kids’ chicken menu was also good as it was an entire filet, not some kind of horrible nuggets. A nice address as a whole.   AWFUL SERVCE. i just came here for lunch, the service was awful. They were so rude and one man in particular was rolling his eyes as we asked him questions about the food and whether they had one of their pastries in stock. They then forgot one of our dishes and didn’t even apologise and were giving attitude when we asked where the dish was. The food wasn’t that good to be honest either. My vegetable casserole was too big for me, and at 20 euros the most expensive vegetarian dish I have ever had at a restaurant.   One of the most spectacular places I have been to. We sat for an after lunch coffee and after chatting to the owner/manager (?) he offered to show us the inside of the cafe/house. A super rich history with a well dated from the 1100's +/- and a particular wall that resisted the great Earthquake of 1755. Anyways, we felt like we went for a coffee and ended up with this extremely rich Portuguese history class. Definitely a must visit if you are in Faro.   4 friends went there tonight, expecting an upscale experience…( the place has great character), but although they performed well on some accounts, they failed on others. The cod, and seafood cataplana was very good, the quality and quantity of the ingredients was excellent. However, one of us ordered the stuffed chicken, expecting a breast ( because how do you stuff a tiny leg?), and also expecting some nice vegetables with the meal, but got cold homemade potato chips and mushy zucchini…not appropriate for this type of restaurant. The staff noticed the uneaten meal, asked about it, we were honest, yet there was no concession…a little disappointing. The staff were friendly. Hope this feedback may improve this offering.   The service was very slow (we waited for 15min to order), the waiter that had to take orders suddenly didn't show up anymore, some of the other guests waited at least for 30 minutes just for ordering or to even first get the menu.   We arrived at this restaurant for dinner at 9pm and the food was served to our table at 11:15. Yes, that’s over a 3 hour wait for mains. Not to mention the fact they actually forgot my mother’s main and so she didn’t eat at all! The food was average, plain and underwhelming. The staff had no clue and were wandering around like lost sheep. Only one waiter was permitted to serve and the others just wandered around looking spaced out and if you attempted to order with them or ask a question they would just tell you that they’re not permitted to take orders. I strongly advise you to AVOID this place! We only wish that we had read the reviews before coming. It’s clearly a big tourist trap with plenty of signage to make it look legitimate but it’s really a terrible, poorly run, restaurant! Definitely our worst restaurant experience to date. My order was partly cold and my wife’s order was partly wrong. This could have been an amazing experience, however due to what I believe is lack of experience between the chefs, management and waiters this was a disaster.   Disgusting food. Steak was well done (it was like rubber) while we ordered medium/medium rare. Duck has no taste, without salt and pepper and also well done. Sea bass was way too salt. Monkfish with rice also a bad combination, why so much sauce on the rice when it doesn’t add anything good to the dish. We waited 1,5 (!) hours for the food. On the bill there was also €4,50 more whe had to pay for a cappuchino we didn’t order. When we saw this, the ober threw the new (correct) bill on the table without any words.   Very disappointing. Staff and service is great! However I dont think the kitchen knows how to cook seafood. All clams were not removed sediment. almost every clam i was chewing had sediment which totally put me off. Especially clam dish had a bad smell and it wasn't fresh.   This was a cute restaurant. Ordered some cheeses to share with a lovely marmalade that came with it. The vegetarian cataplana was shared amongst the four of us. The portion was enormous! I personally didn’t enjoy the tofu that was in it. The chickpeas were also not a soft as I would have loved it. Felt that the cataplana at Cidade Velha was better.   Great little triangle of three restaurants in the old town, we ordered the Cod and potatoes and the octopus curry. COD was great but the curry wasn’t to our taste and the octopus was overdone. That being said Food and service was great only reason for the 4/5 is because I think it’s a bit shot that they individually charge extra for bread, butter and oil etc. i think it’s already on the more expensive side so this should be included.   We shared their cataplana, a local dish made with shellfish, cod, tomatoes, potatoes, all in one covered pot served on the table. It was excellent. The house wine was good. Their orange cake is very tasty and pleasant. I complimented their chef as Luis, who provided very cordial and attentive service gave us a tour of their beautiful restaurant. We ate outside because it was 63 in December and we enjoyed the sun. The combination of pleasant welcome, service and good food in a beautiful location made it a wonderful experience after visiting the beautiful Faro cathedral (a must).   Restaurant and menu looks good, but it ends there. The service was absolutely woeful, every time we needed something including clearing our table we had to request it.   Honestly, this is WORST EXPERIENCE EVER we had in our whole trip in Portugal. THE ORGANISATION IS SO CHAOTIC. We booked in advance but had to wait for 15 minutes for our table which was free all that time. Not to mention that we had mentionned to 3 waiters that we had booked for two, however they still made us wait 15 minutes as they were all busy cleaning other tables instead of taking care of the people who had booked (another couple had the same experience as us). After being installed on our table, we had to wait 1.20 hour to receive our starter (we had to call a waitress to remind her that we were still waiting for one starter!!!!!!) Then for the main dishes, we received them after 1.45 hour being sitted. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. For the food, honestly there is nothing special about it. I recommend to try other restaurants in Faro. Depois, para os pratos principais, recebemos depois de 1. 45 horas sentados. PIOR EXPERIÊNCIA DE SEMPRE. Para a comida, honestamente, não há nada de especial nisso. Recomendo experimentar outros restaurantes em Faro.

  Food was good - I particularly enjoyed the octopus carpachio starter and am surprisingly a sucker for the Algarvian carrots (not being a major carrot fan normally). The real treat of this restaurant is the place itself. There is a nice terrace out front, but even if you eat there you should go and explore inside - the ancient tiled pictures in the dining room are fabulous and there is a lovely view from the roof terrace up top too. I hear you can have a drink up there, but bizarrely they weren't serving in the late evening when we were there.   I was walking in the old town and the menu in the outside catchs me. The cataplana pot was waiting me? .... A very funny waiter learned me about this tipical meal, the curiosity growth and I have not regretted to eaten it!! The price seemed high but the amount of fishes and seafood justify the price.... Also the restaurant is a little museum the walls are covered by the tipical painted tails and an aged water wall was built hundreds year ago into. Recommended!! Nice wine list and a good variety of typical regional deserts. The location in Faro's old town is great and you can easily park in a 5 min walking distance.   Beautiful spot, we ate there twice during our 3 day visit to Faro. Our waiter Luis was such a pleasure, he brought us in around the building and explained the history of it to us. The food was top class. We had a Lobster Cataplana on one of our visits, that alone made it difficult to leave Faro. So did we, only to experience the best things were the starters (which the waiter offered without mentioning they charge for them!), the wine and the location. We had beef and lamb, both were horribly cooked, not crispy on top, not to tell about the vegetables that come with them.   Very nice restaurant with a great little roof terrace overlooking the old town of Faro and in particular the cathedral. The restaurant is well decorated and has a nice buzz. It can get busy in an evening so the seats outside fill quickly but there is plenty of space inside and it's still nice in there too.   Unfortunately not a great night for us. Told cataplana would take 40 minutes, arrived around 1.5hrs later. We had 1 main arrive a good half an hour after everyone else's despite being told it would take 4 minutes. Everything covered with balsamic vinegar for some reason.   nicely decorated but the food isn't that good, avoid getting the octopus as it wasn't fresh when we ordered it. If you want seafood I'd recommend going to Sushi Pearl for fresh sashimi. At entrance, we were given an exclusive tour along the beautiful blue and white azulejos that decorate the walls of the restaurant, which picture the very interesting history of the city of Faro. Scenes from the victorious battle of the Christian Crusaders over the Muslim Moors in 1249: The city of Faro falls to hands of King Afonso III of Portugal, signaling the end of the Portuguese reconquest. Also to be seen are the remaining parts of an archway and door that survived the 1722 and 1755 earthquakes. And also a (now dry) ornamental well in which, in the days of old, once served the public of their daily water supplies. As to the food, service and atmosphere, a well deserved 5 star!   As some reviewers said, service was slow. They did apologise for it in the menu because they make it fresh. We were 4 diners. I had the lamb, which was great. Octopus shrimp curry was good. Monk fish was pretty good. We liked the chorizo appetizer. The Apple crumble was great for dessert. The outside dining was great. We were her on a 75 degree day on early October.   Great food and service. The servings are in my opinion very large. Too large to comfortably eat a 4 course meal. Of course the American next to us complained about the meals being too small... You can't please all the people all the time! The meals were interesting and different from all others we had whilst in Portugal. It was a pleasant surprise to find this delightful little restaurant.   This restaurant has amazing food with a special chef touch on a great location. A good choice of wines matches the traditional "cataplana" or the meats to explore with carob ("alfarroba") sauce. The deserts are well served and diverse to try. The service is ok and expect some delays if full. Booking a table is always a good option. The cherry on top is its own 800 years history underground tunnels that deserve to be discovered, like no other place has. Tip: the owners produce a local beer called Moça, give it a try.
