  dinner was great. But at the end they brought us like a mini strawberry marshmallow. This marshmallow changed my life. It was so small and so squish. And then it just like dissolved in your mouth and had the most wonderful strawberry flavor. Like real strawberry. It was amazing. Recommend the 7-course prix fixe menu with the paired 7-course local Douro valley wine selection, including two wines custom crafted to match this menu. The presentation was spectacular, but the surprise ingredients and flavour combinations were extraordinary. 7 courses became 10 when the chef added 3 surprises. Just a fabulous experience all around.   We were blown away by the attention to detail and quality of the food here! Every dish was packed with flavour and warmth which was perfect for a cold rainy day. The staff were also very knowledgeable about their wines and recommended a great white based on our preferences. Would recommend if you’re staying in the area!   Nestled along the picturesque Douro River, DOC by Chef Rui Paula boasts a location that is undeniably top. With a sprawling riverfront terrace offering one of the finest dining vistas. We visited the restaurant our lunch and we can with high expectations. The overall experience was good - but despite the ideal setting, our lunch experience encountered some shortcomings. The service, although attentive, lacked warmth. Expectations were high, but the decor and cuisine fell short of the restaurant's aspirations. The menu offers a choice between a set tasting menu and à la carte options. The dishes were good, but failed to impress, they were average, and suffered from a lack of balance (rather than the anticipated excellence) Noteworthy were the amuse-bouche of crab-filled mini bun, along with the eel, john dory, lobster, and rice courses. While the meal was pleasant, consider it comes at a high price point. . In essence, while DOC offers an attractive location and satisfactory fare, it disappoints in delivering the remarkable dining experience that its reputation suggests.   It’s a great Michelin guide recommendation. The service was definitely great. The food: - chef welcome appetizer was phenomenal - foie gras was alright - eel was delicious - I would order the seafood soup again! Highly recommend - the goat dish was great, the rice that come with it was delicious.   My wife and I had a fantastic meal at DOC last Sunday. We each had one of the tasting menus and shared one of the wine pairings. This proved a wonderful approach as it allowed us each to try the range of the tasting menu offerings while having some great wine, but not too much, as I needed to drive back to Porto. I can't comment on particular dishes because they will likely change on a weekly, if not daily basis. The setting is stunning and we were there on a gorgeous, if chilly day. Overall, a dining experience we will cherish and we have eaten at a number of Michelin 2 and 3 starred restaurants.   We had an amazing lunch at DOC. The menu was paired with a vineyard we had visited before lunch. We had an incredible white wine and a wonderful red wine. We love the eel, the sea bass and lobster rice stew, the lamb and the chocolate dessert. It was a beautiful day and we ate outside by the Douro River. The service was outstanding.   We had a wonderful dinner at DOC. Great food that lived up to the price tag, and appreciated the little tastes in between courses. Definitely the fanciest restaurant in the area we could find, but didn't feel stuffy, and from an American standpoint, not too expensive, especially choosing the A La Carte option. Romantic, unique, special, full of flavors, emotions and more… just had a wonderful evening together with my wife, outside sitting in front of the Douro River, balcony and 30*C. Wine list is unique only top selection, sommelier had great knowledge of the region. Although tonight we didn’t go for the tasting menu…. We have decided to go a la carte… everything was perfect!!   Cool place with ugly policy. The terrace was only half full. It was a hot day and I was on a biking tour with my pregnant wife. We just wanted to do a quick stop here for a fresh cold water. Maybe we didn't look like the normal client here. We got rejected very rude by "no reservations, no service" and as I said him my wife is pregnant and we just wanted a cool water we got thrown out with "we are no bar when you don't want to eat leave". We had the Signature tasting menu and Kati had the wine pairing (I was the designated driver 🙂, but still enjoyed a couple of glasses as recommended by the sommelier to suit my tastes). The food was elegant, but not pretentious, even a bit playful at times. The service was friendly and very attentive.   Douro river on its own is a must to go and see, one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I've been to. And DOC restaurant makes the experience complete! Amazing terrace near the river, very good and personal service, very nice and refined food (also kids-friendly) and both the lady of the house and the crew were very kind and professional from beginning till end. The sommelier also very humble and helpful and on top they are using Callebaut chocolate for the desserts (best dessert ever according to my wife), a proof for the quality of ingredients they use.   A friend made a reservation For Sunday afternoon lunch. After too many days of too much food I elected to go light on my selections and stick to a couple of side dishes and call it a day. The setting of the restaurant is beautiful perched on the shore of Douro River With vineyards come covering the surrounding hills. First impression of the restaurant was a place many people seek to be seen. Upon examining the menu I confirmed this hunch as I looked at the options. First option was a set menu for a mere €100 unless of course you had wine in the cold for per person tag to €180. The second option was to choose items from the à la cart list. A friend of mine with me elected to choose an entrée, a pork selection, and a dessert with a glass of wine. I went for the light fare having two vegetable side dishes. Candidly, the two side dishes were somewhat less than one star. The vegetable dish pictured was described as seasonal vegetables prepared in a special way. That special way was boiled – boiled senseless. The second side dish was an on identifiable purée garnished with three types of cauliflower. While my friend seem to be satisfied with his meat selection and his dessert, I will say that I would not of given you a bus token for what I had. Pretentious food in a pretentious restaurant for pretentious clientele. I should’ve gone with my hunch as I walked in the door and turned around and left.   Location and view are beautiful. Wine list very extensive (although pricey, especially considering most of the list is local). Unfortunately the cuisine has been very deceiving, undecided between tradition and innovation and definitely lost in execution: besides the pieces of shell making happy my dentist, the crab on toast was straight coming out of the fridge where he spent probably an unfair amount of time. The veal, which aged enough to become red and savoury as an ordinary beef, was served with three over cooked green beans coming straight from the freezer (at least judging from their lukewarm service temperature).   Best meal we had in Portugal. The view is outstanding with seating right alongside a picturesque stretch of the Douro. The service was great as was the wine list.   For me this restaurant use to be one of the best places to eat in Douro. It was actually how I got to first know Chef’s Rui Paula cuisine. I’m sorry to say that it has lost its essence. It’s no longer amazing to eat hear. It became for me a vulgar experience, too expensive for its quality. I had dinner there last night and it was a disappointment. As a starter I had the Egg cooked at low temperature with Portuguese sausage and and for main course I had Pork’s Neck. The starter was good but the main was just ok.   I was here two days in a row... for lunch it was stunning and dinner next day. It was great but for lunch I ordered a glass of red wine it was a nice measure size, but for dinner it was almost just 2 fingers less, I told the waiter and he didn't care that much. The sommelier he need to see a comedy movie before he comes to work... because he is so miserable that he doesn't smile at all...but the rest of the staff they are just wonderful...   Creative food and nice atmosphere. We ordered one tasting menu, 2 starters, a main, and a dessert. The food was all very good, but just one thing to note - the portions are very small because it is meant for tasting, and the service is good but food is served at a leisurely pace. Our lunch took us 2 hours 45 minutes, so don't plan for a quick meal here. They also brought several courses on the house, which was a nice touch - a couple starters and a palate cleanser before dessert as well as a few mini sweets at the end. For those complaining about the high price, maybe they should consider another place as a michelin place of such outstanding quality has the right for this price range.   Four hours of incredibly wonderful food and wine. Service was perfect. Venue is fabulous. Food and wine - can't imagine anything better. We each had a different tasting menu for lunch so we shared 14 courses, breads and olive oil, savory amuse bouche, sweet amuse bouche, 6 wines, 2 ports, espresso, tiny sweets with the espresso. Phew!
