  We had a wonderful authentic Portuguese meal at Nicola. Our server, Jonathan helped us with suggestions about wine and food. He was very attentive and his suggestions were perfect.   Food was not so good, for example shrimps where hard i.e. well over done. And there are no vegetarian options in menu. Service where good until you mentio  about quality (and requst for review). There wher not even apology about what has happen. The waiters consentrate fishing google review from person that just take cup of coffee. Followed case where waiter instructed one group how to give 5 stars. So shortly starts do not match with the food in this place.   This restaurant is right next to our hotel and has the same name. The place is well appointed and the staff is nice and friendly. My waiter Abu was fantastic and ensured that my table was perfectly set for the dish that I ordered, he even tied a bib on me! The food was nice as well. I ordered a seafood rice dish that was served with chilli oil on the side. Good quantity of food and tasted good. I had breakfast the next day as well and was also served with the same great service by yet another friendly waiter Aprupha. Overall I recommend.   Very old school , main seafood dishes were great, the steak like just about everywhere in the area lacked luster... Don't get beef in downtown Lisbon ... Octopus rice was great , as was the clams in olive oil. Fish was also reasonably priced although the sides veggies were just boiled/steamed.   We ordered 2 desserts. The strawberry cheesecake was not cheesecake at all. It consisted of whipped cream 😵‍💫. The other was the puddin flam, which was made of eggs and looked like a sweet omelet.   The coffee is like liquid chocolate to my pallet... I go there religiously every morning for a 'bica' before work with some collegues. The staff are incredible, really the "salt of the earth" kind of people. All together, you can't go wrong in an atmosphere that has existed for coffee for around 200 yrs now... lol. We only decided to eat there because we were right there at the Christmas market and tired to walk more to another restaurant after a long day of tours. The waiter was rude, refuse to make a mock tail, rushing us to order. The food was ok. A typical tourist food. AND when they brought the check, which only showed a total amount. it seemed very high. We asked for an itemized check and they said “ oh the waiter added a tip”! 25%!!! What a scammers!! People don’t even tip in Portugal! Top it all up, three of us got so sick that evening from food poisoning. We all couldn’t get out of bed for next 48 hours. What a waste of our vacation days!! One thing we didn't like was the fact that we felt nobody greeted or acknowledged us because we didn't speak portuguese.   Tourist trap, trust me. Scammed us too. I asked for an inside seat, they sat us at a dining table, never asked if we were only getting drinks or with food. Then when I was about to order the waiter said “you know these tables are only for food.” So I offered to move. But then he insisted that I still sit there because he’ll make an exception for us this time. Wow I feel SO special in this empty restaurant 🙄 Then when the food came he put something on the table we didn’t order. And he insisted that I had asked for it. In the end he acknowledged his mistake, said we don’t have to pay for it but he’ll leave it on the table because he’ll get in trouble if he sends it back. It got really awkward because he kept saying “it’s my mistake so I’ll pay for it and eat it later. Wow it’s 13€, it’s my mistake!” Yea glad you know your food is over priced. The coffee was mediocre at best. Hot chocolate came COLD, had to send it back for them to remake it. What kind of HOT chocolate comes cold???? When we paid he manually deducted the dish we didn’t order but then added 2€ for bread which I already saw was charged on the receipt. He was holding the receipt away from me and wouldn’t give it to me to look. I knew what he was doing, trying to reap his loss. I didn’t want to argue anymore and just wanted to leave.   Was wandering around and wanted to have some brunch. I found Nicola popular and loads people were having their foods so I decided to have a try. A bit disappointed for the service I had probably because no one could communicate well in English with me. Had to quickly and simply get some coffee and whatever I saw in the restaurant.   Not to be confused with Nicolau Lisboa, which is pretty highly rated. Pretty Limited menu which is overpriced for what you get compared to other nearby restaurants. Juice came warm and only had 2 ice cubes, but it wasn’t very good either way so didn’t end up drinking. Main reason for the 2 stars is that in the course of our breakfast (maybe 45-50 minutes max) three different men came through selling sunglasses to tables. I’m fortunate to have come from a big city so I know how to deal with them but the table next to us was getting bombarded and the men would not leave despite them repeatedly saying they were not interested and pointing out that they were already wearing sun glasses. It stinks to have to be rude but hovering over a table and asking how much money people/are willing to give have is a bit much so one time we stepped in and told him they said no and to move along.   We were told this was the oldest coffee shop in Lisbon and had been recommended by many locals to come here. Nicola is located in a perfect location overlooking the square. We only came for a coffee in the morning and none of us liked it at all - it tasted like lukewarm instant coffee and my cappuccino was very watery.   Great location looking on to Rossio Square, perfect for drinks, breakfast, lunch or dinner. Returned here after 5 years and service was still attentive. We had the octopus rice and Nicola Beefsteak Tenderloin. The rice was tasty with a slight kick, and the tenderloin was tender with lots of gravy, which was percect for their fries.   We had lunch in another seafood restaurant with great reviews and was very disappointed, so we decided to have dinner in Nicola which is next to our hotel. We had Pasteis and while they were very good, we found others we'd loved better in Belem. I would make a point of going back here on every Lisbon vacation.   A very standard tourist spot. We struggled to find many places open on a sunday so we settled here. The food was good, nothing that blew us away. We felt both main dishes we had needed something extra (sauce or seasoning) to enhance the dishes and they were a bit bland after a few bites. Great portion sizes and I was very pleased with the wine menu which offered great Portuguese wines. The waiting staff were brilliant.   Good food, on the higher end of the price scale. Convenient location with exposure to all the tourists checking out Lisbon, this place may be a bit dated at first. Waiters seemed friendly and communicative but be careful when you order. My wife and I, we went for the sea food dishes and have received, waiting for our order, a stater dish pack (bread, deli meat and spreadable cheese). We have rejected that which was fine, the bread was kept on the table though. Our order came fast, food was averagely tasty, nothing to complain about here. At the end, we payed by card, which again was fast and very accessible but as a piece of advice, check your final note before doing the payment. Ours had an extra water bottle on it which I highlighted and have received the classic " it was a honest mistake when printing the bill ". After payment, I did the numbers and obviously, the water we didn't receive was included which made me ask for it for take way. No problema there, received it with apologies for the situation, but I feel that's more of a cheap show rather than an actual mistake. Don't forget tipping is highly encouraged, feeling the pressure of the waiter rather than having this option as a way to quantify the quality of the service. Overall, I am not dissatisfied but this is clearly a tourist trap which makes me think twice if I would have to come back again next time. As batatas fritas foram as piores que já comi na minha vida. Fácil de entender porque o garçom não perguntou uma única vez se estava tudo bem depois de servir os pratos. Experimentei os pratos dos meus colegas e também não eram tão bons (salmão seco, arroz cozido demais,...). Existem muitos restaurantes excelentes em Lisboa, com comida de alta qualidade e bom serviço. Este definitivamente não é um deles.

  What a delight!!! The food, staffs locations I can't find a fault!! I ordered their specialty seafood rice it was great paired with green wine they recommended. It is not the cheapest of course but if you are sick of touristy random food which sometimes hits home-run and most of times it totally misses.. expect about 30~50 EUR per person (Traduzido pelo Google) Que delícia!!!   Great choice for lunch on the main square. We sat outside which was a great place for crowd watching (though keep your valuables close to you as thieves operate in the area). Staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. The menu has so much great choice, particularly if you’re in the mood for seafood - highly recommend the swordfish.   This seriously sucks. Don’t fall into it, everyone talks about it on tours, but the food quality is very bad. It’s horribly expensive and the staff is anything but friendly. I would definitely not recommend coming here. The fries were super saggy, the meat undercooked and bloody, even though specifically ordered not to be. Absolute disappointment.   Good food, but expensive. I wouldn’t say overpriced, but just on the higher end for price point by Portuguese standards. Have the Bachalau Cafe Nicola style. Don’t forget to tip.
