  Amazing food and brilliant service. The highlight was the prawn risotto which was packed full of prawns and absolutely delicious. The restaurant had a lovely vibe.   For years, Maria Catita has been my best restaurant in Lisbon. I always come when I have an oportunity and recomend it for friends. The food is amazing and the staff is super friendly, as you can see it in the picture below. Unfortunatetly, Natan is not in the pic because he is the photographer.   What a great place to dine. The atmosphere was lively and fun. The waiters are very accommodating and attentive. They truly want to make your dining experience memorable. Remembering this place is not hard to do once you taste the food and the quality of the presentation. Maria Catita will be one of the highlights I remember from our Lisbon stay.   Staff were friendly and welcoming, but the food was disappointing. Everything was over salted. Prawn starter slightly sickly (probably due to amount of salt and cream), tuna bites looked grey and unappetising. Filet of salt cod for main; skin limp and soggy and potatoes undercooked. Prices reasonable (including the bottle of sauvignon blanc). But in the end the lovely staff and buzzy atmosphere didn't make up for underwhelming food.   High expectations for this restaurant but a bit of a disappointing experience. We chose the Portuguese steak which had to be sent back, there was confusion over a green salad and chips/crisps/fries. Really, steak shouldn’t come with crisps, it’s not a meal! The Lisboa red wine was very good. Also the opening times on the door (and on Google are wrong). We went at 1750 on Sunday and they were closed until 1830.   TLDR: Make a reservation and dine here every opportunity you get. Long version: In a city filled with restaurants, María Catita stands above all others. This is not just a restaurant, but a finely tuned orchestra with everyone playing in unison. The result is food that will absolutely astound, the ambiance will teleport you, but the service is the real prize, for me at least. We were privileged enough to dine here 3 times during our stay in Lisbon and each was as magnificent as the first, if not more. The immaculate attention to detail is impeccable be it from the kitchen, wait staff, and the manager. When you come make sure you have made reservation prior to your arrival. They open promptly at 6:30pm, but arrive at least 15 minutes beforehand due to the line that forms at the entrance from other reservation holders. If you arrive after opening try to land there around 7:30 as some of the first round of table holders will have finished and you have a better opportunity to dine inside, although this is not a guarantee. Come, dine, and come again, and again.   The staff at this restaurant were friendly and accommodating, especially when they re-cooked my steak to my liking. However, the steak was initially too bloody for my taste (obviously you can see it in the photo). The tuna was a highlight, enhanced by a delicious sauce, I don’t like seafood but the sauce made it better for me. On the downside, the chips were a mix of a bit oily yet somehow dry. Overall, my experience with the food might just be down to personal taste, but the positive attitude of the staff made up for it.   Brilliant restaurant, I came here on my first night and couldn't rate it more highly. Excellent value for money. I also went back for lunch and it was just as good. Would recommend the garlic prawns in particular. I've loved eating here and I'll definitely be back when I next come to Lisbon.   This restaurant was recommended by a guide, and I had high hopes. Overall, it was a nice experience and nice service. The food wasn't that good, it was ok. I had starter tuna bits, and the main was Bacalhau. The tuna was raw in the middle, and I couldn't eat it. The Bacalhau was ok, but not different than other cheaper places. For the whole dinner for 1 person, I paid 40EUR. Mmm a bit too much. The place was full in 30 minutes after opening.   Overrated; I was there alone and ordered two mains: Buttiflied Sardines fillet risotto and a seafood stew. They were okay tho I dun think it lives up to the hype. I was never asked whether my food was fine like they asked other guests. I was asked to pay 49.50 Euros, and when they brought me the bill, they circled the bit on it that said “tips are not included”. What kind of restaurant does that? The staffs there were not nice at all and the lady brought me the bill even asked me to give a tips. No good service provider would do that. I paid them 50 and she shot me the look like I have killed her parents. I left with a bad note. Please go somewhere else, this is not worth the hype.   We visited Maria Casita early February of 2024 after a walking tour. We ordered the Bacalhau à Brás and the Sirloin à Portuguesa and an Iberian Sausage appetizer. The Salt Cod was delicious, perfect on bread we thought so we ordered a serving of bread as well. The bread also helped us sop up the butter sauce from the stake, which was heavenly. We were also recommended some aperativos, pictured here, both very good. Not pictured was a bottle of Casa Cadaval Riesling we had with our food. Jana attended to our needs. Very warm and friendly, she made our experience a memorable one. Good food for a good price. Highly recommended.   We chanced upon this lovely restaurant on our way back to the airport. We went in primarily for Portuguese steak, which my wife said was fantastic. The atmosphere is very good, which seems to happen when everyone is enjoying their food and experience! I had their special sandwich, which was a challenging size, but very tasty.   Absolutely fabulous seafood restaurant. We dropped by without a reservation at around 8pm on a Monday evening, and it was packed - even without a reservation, though, they were luckily able to seat us inside very quickly. We ordered the shrimp salad to start, while we waited for our mains. It was a huge portion for the price and tasted amazing, the shrimps were extremely fresh - one of the best salads I've ever had. The mains were also very generous portions considering the extremely high quality and reasonable price they held. I would highly recommend the Chef's Special - I have not had anything like it, the purple sweet potato mash worked beautifully with the salmon.   I enjoyed a fantastic dinner early Saturday evening. Was seated quickly despite it being a rainy Saturday. I ordered the drink special and the octopus, and followed that with a lovely chocolate cake and some port wine. Service was attentive and all the food was so fresh.   That’s the best place I have ever visited. The service and everyone were so lovely!! I would give 10 stars if possible. I had a baby 1,5 years old, they gave us pencils and paper, so the baby will draw. Also the chef cooked amazing white fish only for the baby (as we have lots of allergies). Everyone was so kind.   I had the fried monkfish with aioli, which was very tasty! The grilled octopus was seasoned well, but could have been much more tender, also the spinach had little to no seasoning on it and tasted bland. My girlfriend had a steak, where the degree of doneness was totally off. It was drowned in sauce and tough/labby. The chocolate cake was tasty. The main dish, the cod, was superb, tender and flavory, very nice with the crunchy fries and the risotto had a very soft texture.   Last night in Lisbon, was recommended by a local. Food was absolutely fantastic. They have three restaurants side by side. We had the trilogy (shrimp, tuna bites and octopus salad), cataplana and salted cod. We are foodies who love exploring new places and part of the experience is definitely the waiters. Zé and Luciano made the experience even better and they made our last night in Portugal memorable. Make sure to visit this place and ask to be served by one of these two gems !   We are leaving Lisbon tomorrow and this was one of two restaurants that were our favourite! We sat outside and was so nice as the road didn't allow any cars so it was not too noisy and we had a great view of the colourful buildings. The staff were incredibly polite and brought a cheeky sense of humour, which we enjoyed! The restaurant got full very quickly after we arrived so it was good that we had a reservation. I had the monkfish crumbed bites, which were absolutely amazing! So crunchy, and the fish inside was mouth-watering! Was the best starter I had in my 7 night stay in Lisbon! My partner had the tuna bites as her starter, which I tried with bread and again. Wow. The sauce went so well with the bread as well! We both went for the slow cooked octopus, which came with crushed jacket potatoes. The octopus was so thick and it was delicious! It had so much flavour and wasn't chewy at all! Absolutely loved it!   If I could give 10 stars, I would. The food at Maria Catita blew my mind. It was absolutely incredible and the staff was friendly, helpful, polite, and also were joking around with us which was a plus. As starters, I decided to go with the Tuna bites in a white wine and garlic sauce. I would recommend getting bread to go with it because the sauce is yummy. The tuna was so chunky, man it was amazing. My boyfriend had the friend monkfish, I definitely recommend this starter as it was out of this world. Refreshing, delicious, and packs a punch! Second, every dish we got was excellent and the portions were pretty big in comparison to other restaurants we visited during our stay. The service was friendly and attentive but not overbearing. We walked in right after they opened for the day, but if you’re planning on showing up a little later, I’d recommend a reservation as they filled up fast.   Nice place to visit, food is really good and they have a good selection of wines and beers to match with the food. The Maria Catita Beef could be better, personally I didn't find the cream sauce a good match and the meat could be more tender. On the other side, the mushroom dish is mouth watering and the codfish is also really great. Parking is really hard here, so better to go on foot. Finding a table might not be that easy, better to make a reservation or you will have to wait close to an hour depending on the day of the week.   Went for dinner on New Years Eve without a reservation and expected the worse fixed menu and long service times: instead, we queued up on the pavement, waited quite a while, which is expected on such occasion, with a complimentary glass of wine as we made friends with the waiter at the door. We then chose great fish options from à la carte menu, and we ended up being perfectly on time for the fireworks display at midnight! The service was quick and attentive of details (bringing new cutlery without us asking, stuff like that), the waiter even managed to joke with us despite the crowd of tables he was waiting at, making it a very fun night when we were ready to be disappointed.   If you’re looking for a good value and delicious place to eat in the historic centre of Lisbon this is a great option. We had the marinated sardines, cod a la bras (a fish type cake with fries and eggs) and the slow roasted octopus. Everything was high quality and tasted delicious. But the real star here was the service. Even though we had to wait 20 minutes for a table, the staff including our waiter Mauro were welcoming and referred to us by name, a special touch!   This restaurant is so nice! Very closed to Praça do Comercio, the variety of specialties and the rich menu were things which attracted me. After tasting a delicious Bacalhau, I promised to the very polite staff to come back soon to try something else.Better to book a table in advance but they accomodated some clients asking just to wait a while at the entrance, so helpful !The menu is available also in italian.   Absolutely loved our dinner at Maria Catita! This place was recommended by my mom and uncle who visited Lisbon 6 months ago and very much exceeded our expectations. We didn't have a reservation and were told it would be a 45 minute wait but only waited about 20 minutes. Our food was fantastic and the best Portuguese meal we have had so far. Service was excellent thanks to Mauro and Mateus. We are here a few more days and just might have to go back for another meal before leaving.   Really good food, the wines were not amazing though. We had to wait in line for some time before we got a table, but the food was worth the wait. Sometimes I felt a bit rushed because they came to the table so often, but on the other hand the staff was really friendly. Over all a good experience! And also they make a good Margarita!   The food is tasty although the place is a bit touristy. We had tried better in other places throughout Portugal and Lisbon. It's a bit expensive and the portion sizes are quite small for the price. In general, we enjoyed our experience and the service is mostly positive. We had a minor experience where one of the waitresses let another Portuguese family through before us thinking we didn't understand Portuguese, even though the family told the waitress that we had arrived first. We had a fantastic server, Mauro, who communicated with us in English, and friendly staff who recommended local wines that would pair well with the seafood we ordered.   Although I often avoid eating near the main tourist spots out of fear of getting overpriced and subpar food, on this occasion I decided to try out Maria Catita as I was visiting Lisbon over the Christmas break, during which time the “non-touristy” restaurants all decided to close.   It is possible to find a table without reservation even though it's busy. It's a bit touristy but the food is good. We had lobster and sardines as the main course. I especially loved the tomato rice alongside the sardines. Sardines and lobster were also delicious. The beers we ordered with it were also a good pair with the food.   Hard to find such a good place in the crowded city of Lisbon. Searching for a place for lunch we found this place at Google Maps, and decided to give a try. First of all, I've to say that Jorge the waiter who helped us, was super nice and made this experience much better.   We love to try all the places we can when visiting a new city. This place was so good we went back every day! By the 3rd day the managers recognized us and treated us special. This place is truly a gem. The gambas have an amazingly buttery sauce. The shrimp dish with potato & egg was beyond and even their steak spoke to my heart with a hot pepper on top. We haven’t been disappointed by a single dish yet, & can’t wait to try more items on the menu. Also, the service is excellent. Luciano, Sky & Mayara have been incredibly welcoming and helpful when we have questions about the menu. The rest of the staff is also friendly & they seem to work together well.   NOT a tourist trap. At first was a bit cautious since it is in the Alfama district. Wow, we were certainly very happy with the restaurant. We sat inside, feels like a nice homey place. There's outside seating as well but it was a bit nippy. Service - impeccable, they were attentive but not intrusive. They know English well enough to guide you through the menu and make recommendations. Food - Got the Bitoque Maria Catita Style steak with a cream sauce - was awesome, perfectly cooked to a medium rare, the cream sauce is loaded :) so make sure you walk it out on the uphills surrounding the restaurant. My wife got the Prawn Brás style - she also liked it very much. The dessert we got the creme brulle - was average though. Drinks - had the wines the waiter suggested and they went down well with the steak and prawns. For post lunch we got a ruby and tawny port also suggested by the waiter - all good! Highly recommend.   Booked a table days in advance for 9pm, got here on time. Now standing outside for 10+ minutes with other 5 couples waiting for our 9 reservation to be ready. This restaurant does overbooking and make people stand in a line without any options on a Sunday evening, absolute disgrace. They're only booking tables INSIDE, without putting it on the information page, we've waited 20min to get an inside table while people walking in wee getting outside tables without reservation just after waiting.   Had dinner w/ a friend here and it did not disappoint. They have a variety of food to choose from and great drinks. The passion fruit sangria changed our life! Exceptional service as well from Cais and Ze, who were nothing but nice and incredibly hospitable.   Alright overall. It wasn’t bad, but not something I would recommend to friends if they came over to Lisbon. On the other hand, our waiter Mauro was friendly and welcoming. We tried the octopus, codfish and sardines. The food was good, but I found it very heavy; several hours later i was still feeling bloated despite hours of walking: I suspect the amount of oil/butter used to cook was probably excessive. Orders taken and starters were served quickly. Then came the never ending wait for the main course. A 20 minute wait slowly started growing to 40 and then 60 and so on. Upon checking we realised that our order was messed up. Although we were told it was getting ready and will be served soon, the food finally arrived almost after 1.5 hours. Thanks to Yago, our waiter - the only motivation who kept us patient, otherwise we would have exploded watching food being served to other customers who came after us. The food tasted good, also probably we very hungry. For the troubles that we faced, Yago charged two beers on the house and also complimented with two liquor shots.   Customer service was very good and servers were friendly! I had the seafood rice with the prawn and it was delicious. Seafood was fresh and the meal was perfect portion.   Between 8:30-9:30 pm waiting queue but waiting time around 10minutes and they offer wine by waiting. Close to 10pm there were still people waiting. This place is always full. Their regional Portuguese kitchen Menu is good. I personally would advice on fish since I saw my neighbors dealing with their stake (by chopping it, too well done they meant). Otherwise Beef a la Michello shall be their speciality. If you prefer fish recipie #24 (catch of the day) is just good prepared. And octopus was good but it could be softer. I took a look on their knives and these are sharp enough so octopus could be better though good taste specially because of the coriander on top, really tasty. Be careful with the potatoes, they are super hot ;-). They always advice what wine goes better with your menu. I realized that sitting next to the bar is kind of little windy so the food gets cold fast so better to get a table away if you have the choice. Highlight: "the worst chocolate cake" !!! Super good recipe. WiFi, super clean toilets with cinnamon aromatherapy ;-), very friendly personal, awesome atmosphere with nice covers in Fado style.   This looks and feels for all the world like an old-time provincial Portuguese café, but the beauty of Maria Catita is that you can find it in the big city. I was passing one lunchtime and decided that it was too good to miss. Alongside the restaurant is a shop selling traditional Portuguese produce. Lunch always begins with something amazing for me. The Bread basket, butter, matured sheep's cheese and Portuguese style mussels with onion, bell peppers, tomato and chorizo were always going to be the perfect way to start my lunch. As soon as I saw them on the menu, I was hooked. They went so well together that I recommend anyone to order both. This brings me to the main course. I asked the waitress for her top tips and the Seafood Cataplana with rice was obviously a favourite for her. It is a classic dish and would be the ultimate test for a Portuguese chef to get just right. And it was! This was delightful, and I would come back to Maria Catita just for this one dish alone. You have to try it! After that I wanted to sample more of the wonders on offer. Dessert is something I always try to make room for.   A local tour guide recommended this place - I asked where to get the best octopus. And it did live up to my expectations. I had the Lisbon way octopus, so delicious!!!Crispy on the outside, tender and white on the inside. I also had and recommend the sea soup to start with, and the vinho verde to enjoy the meal with. Keep some space for a pastel de nata with cinnamon! And as the waiters say, you might come back the following day because the food is excellent and so is the service!
