  Firstly the service is terible. They totaly ignored us and we waited so long to order and for the food. Food is terible it is to salty, over cooked and the fish is old and dry. Wine tastes like vinegar and is so expensive. They added the service to the bill which was 6.5€. All in all one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to and I would not recomend it to anyone.   We stopped here by chance. It looked very busy and so we thought that it must be good. The service felt very rushed. The waitress was scurrying round from table to table but she forgot half of what we asked for. I asked for some bread and pate, we got butter, cheese and sardine paste but only one bread roll for two of us. We asked for water which never came, until we asked again for it. We ordered a salad with our main course, again this didn't come, so we had to ask again. It is all very well rushing around from table to table but if you don't remember a customers order, then that service is poor. Less haste! Also on the table next to us were 5 ladies. They brought out one main course, then after about 5 minutes they brought out 3 more. One poor lady then had to wait a further 10 minutes before she got hers. All the dishes should come out together!   Best food and best service. The staff are very nice and helpful. It started to rain when we were having our lunch. They reacted very quickly to bring all the thing (I mean ALL, include our baby and stroller) in a very appropriate way. They also helped us to get a place for diaper change. The food are very fresh and really delicious. The price is fair. Even if it is in the central tourist part but it is really a good choice for tasting Portugal local food and having a good time.   ⚠️ Watch out, the restaurant beside O Portas is not on Google Maps and people often confuse it with this one: that's where most of the bad reviews come from! As a local tour guide I can guarantee that you can't go wrong with this place, in fact I eat here almost every day of the week! O Portas is my favorite restaurant in the Lisbon city center, not only because of the central position -just a few minutes walking from Praça do Comércio- but also because they serve delicious food, fast and for cheaper prices than other restaurants in the area. Whether it was rice, omelette, seafood or meat, anything I've ever eaten here was delicious. My personal favorite plates so far are: Grilled codfish, Grilled octopus, Grilled salmon and the Codfish with scrambled eggs. Don't forget to try the traditional Codfish pastéis here! You'll also find that all the waiters are very understandable in multiple languages and they won't let the huge groups of people eating here stress them out; I've always found them super kind and helpful, especially when you book a reservation, which I highly recommend.   This is a tourist trap!!! Go somewhere else if you want to have a good experience! The food tastes alright, it is ok for its price. The waitress tried to scam us though by 1) writing down more expensive prices than were on the card for the drinks (luckily we remembered the price so we told her and she corrected the bill) and 2) she added a „service fee“ of 4,95€ to the bill without showing that it was optional. Only after asking if we have to pay that service fee she said that it is optional - for the service, as a tip. Since she was far from friendly and brought first a wrong drink and a wrong dish than what I ordered I chose not to pay the „service fee“ (which was more than 10% of the bill so I’m not sure how she came up with that number anyway…). Besides that, had to ask to get my fish re-fried as it was raw, tables are way too close together, TV on the inside makes it far from comfortable and waiters rushing like crazy is not what I was hoping for. Shocking to think how many tourists must have already been ripped off with the “service fee” that appears on the bill as completely part of it. Would NOT recommend. Além disso, tive que pedir para fritar meu peixe novamente porque estava cru, as mesas são muito próximas umas das outras, a TV por dentro deixa tudo nada confortável e os garçons correndo como loucos não era o que eu esperava.   This spot is smack in the middle of everything, including lots of other restaurants, but it stands out because the folks that run it are quite fun, and the amazing lady that served us had a great sense of humour. They don’t shove a menu in your face or talk you into taking a seat. Fact is, they’re always busy in the evenings and their food speaks for itself. The chicken is cooked flawlessly and has a lovely char. Carbonara may not be completely traditional but hey this isn’t Italy and it tastes darn amazing! Grilled octopus was massive and delicious!   Ridiculous SCAMMERS I can't believe this place has 3.8 stars - this teaches me to read the bad reviews. Server called us into the restaurant from the street and I said we wanted codfish cakes to split and 2 glasses of wine. They couldn't show me the price on the menu, and told me cakes come with a salad. I said ok. They brought bread, butter, cheese, salad, codish cakes, and fries. I should have sent the other things back - because sure enough our bill was 46€ - this included all items we didn't order right down to the butter. This place truly badly represents Portugese hospitality and is NOTHING like any of the other restaurants we have been to in the same price range or cheaper - like Heaven's Door up the street.   We had lunch here today and chose it as almost all the tables were full we took this as a sign that it must be better than other restaurants around. Food was pretty good. Fresh and servings were larger than what we had in previous days. Mushrooms in my omelet were not fresh but canned, unfortunately. White Sangria was better than some I have had here but the carafe it comes in is small. It is equivalent to about 3.5 of their glasses Service was average. What was annoying was the extra service charge "Diversos". After reading other reviews we now understand it was a table service charge. I think they charge tourists only for this service. Especially those that cannot speak the language so its easy for them to get away with it. Too bad as we tend to tip well and didn't because of this surprise charge. First time we haven't tipped in the 5 days we have been here. Will we come back? No. Would we have come back if they were upfront? You betcha. Food is good and with better service I'm sure they would earn the tips they are seeking without being underhanded. When we received the bill they had charged us 4 euros for bread and margarine which we did not ask but was put on the table by waiters.   The owner talked to us on the street and took us to the restaurant. We are usually very careful of situations like this but did like the place and decided to have a meal. It was definitely a good decision, I had the octopus which was quite big and very well seasoned (even though my boyfriend found it a little tough, I really liked it ;)). Also found it a good value for the €14 price. My boyfriend had the catch of the day - grouper fish filet which was absolutely huge and very tasty. The grouper was on a pricy side and cost €25 but it was very big and delicious. Otherwise everything was great, including service. No overpriced bread or 10% service charge on the receipt as I read in other reviews.   After they convinced us to have dinner at their restaurant by using words like "excellent service and typical local cuisine" we have been brought to the table and immediately the waitress tried to offer the more expensive dishes, which is okay, but she wasn't amused when we decided not to take her suggestion. She brought some cheese and bread telling us "it's for you, if you like". We tried a bit, but as it didn't meet our taste we left it. It turned out we had to pay for it in the end (5,50 EUR for hard bread and weird tasting cheese). It's not nice to offer something without telling anything about the price in advance. Furthermore they charge a service fee which is not mentioned in the menu. After we asked for the bill, the waitress brought it and kept us waiting 20 minutes. She just ignored us and we had to ask a colleague of her to take our money. The food itself was okay, but nothing special. We've got the impression, this is just a restaurant to catch unaware tourists and service is not important to them. We were really disappointed and can't recommend to choose this place. I ordered the grilled salmon, when I cut it in half it was red inside (not cooked) (it could be very risky) and I told it to the runner, after few minutes they bring it back the same piece of salmon (but with new salad and chips) almost BURNED, and I couldn't eat it anyway. And the bad news is you have to pay the service, about 10% of the bills, and is not write anywhere.
