An absolute all-rounder and a gem of local authenticity in a very touristy area. My white wine was excellently chilled, the bar snacks were delicious and moorish. The Fado performers, both instrument players and singers, were outstanding. The service was impeccable. The place is tiny, though, so reserve in advance - luckily, Helder, the owner, is quick to reply and extremely accommodating. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Love this place! I first went here in 2022 and came back in 2023. It is a must! Exceptional fado music and very good wine. They also offer charcuterie and have delicious cheese to offer. This felt like a very authentic and intimate fado experience. It is a small space, which sits up to 30 people, and we were lucky enough to be able to secure two walk-in spots - I'd recommend to book in advance, especially if you're a bigger group! In terms of the food and drinks, I loved the ginja, though I think the food and snacks could be improved in terms of variety. My friend ordered fries / chips, thinking it would be freshly fried potatoes, which turned out to be a bowl of store-bought crisps. Anyway, given the fact that we both enjoyed two alcoholic drinks each (+ water!) and listening to three singers with different fado styles for less than 15 euros per person, this was an absolute bargain. The owner was also friendly and seemed kind. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this place for something different. We had the best fado experience that we could have hoped or wished for. Duque da Rua is such an authentic, warm, hospitable and amazing place. Nested in a pretty neighborhood it feels so genuine. We loved the vibes and we absolutely loved the amazing voices that offered us a unique experience. The food is basic tapas, but you don't go there for the food, you go there for the amazing musicians and their music that spoke directly into our hearts. However, we did enjoy some nice plates that went along greatly with our wine. We loved this bar. It was a major highlight from our trip to Lisbon. Everyone was super-friendly and very helpful. We stayed 4 nights in Lisbon and visited here twice. We were welcomed back like we were old friends. People in Lisbon are friendly and warm but the wonderful people at this bar took it to the next level. On top of this the Fado was excellent and felt very authentic. Arrive at 730pm. Music starts at 8pm. We left around midnight (although there’s no obligation to stay so late). The wine was good and reasonably priced. The food was fairly basic (ham, cheese, etc) but perfectly nice. But it’s a bar - not a restaurant like most Fado venues in Lisbon. This place is truly amazing. I went with my family because we wanted to listen to fado but didn't want to attend a show in a theater, and the experience was fantastic. It's a small restaurant (so it's advisable to make a reservation), which makes the show an intimate experience. Additionally, the musicians are excellent, and the food is delicious. But the best part is definitely the service; the owner greeted us when we arrived, and everyone was attentive to our needs. For example, my father is 82 years old and they arranged our seating so it was comfortable and accessible for him. The restaurant is open between 7:30 PM and 11:30 PM, and if you visit, you should plan to stay for the whole time. Upon arrival, you can order food and drinks (we ordered various types of tapas, wine, and cider, and everything was delicious), and at 8:00 PM, the show begins, lasting until 11:00 PM (with some short breaks in between). We came here on a birthday celebration looking for a fado show. We found this small place, seating about 30 people, that feels so intimate. Duque da Rua was our favourite part of our recent trip to Lisbon. The singers and guitarists were incredibly talented and we received wonderful hospitality and service from the owners. The food was good (pairing a porto wine with some anchovies & sardines was an excellent combo). First time experiencing Fado and couldn’t have been nicer. We passed by this place at the opening time but it was already all booked. However the owner gave us the number and told us to write later in the night, in case somebody left a spot, and I must say we were lucky. The place is tiny and intimate, the low lights help create the best atmosphere to enjoy the music. Singers alternate during the performance and it looks like they are all old friends, singing together. By far our best experience in Lisbon. We visited Duque da Rua to experience the Fado without any expectations. What we experienced was over and above what we would ever imagine. The performances of the Fadistas in such an intimate setting makes it something that every visitor in Lisbon must experience. The owner and those working with him makes everyone feel at home. I contacted Helder by email a few weeks before our arrival in Lisbon to reserve a table for 4 after seeing the great reviews! So glad we did, we all agreed it was one of the most memorable experiences of our trip. Helder very promptly responded. On arrival at the bar we were welcomed in, It’s very cosy and inviting. There were about six different singers, each with a different style. The musicians were excellent and the staff was amazing and very attentive. Best Lisboa experience of all time! We felt as if we were part of the family. The staff is so nice and they can sing too! We discovered Fado and it's incredible... The place is very cozy and small so wherever you're in the room you are close to the singer and both guitarists. We ate tapas + wine, and ginjinha is offered at the end of the show. I'm cautious to write a review for this place because I kind of don't want anyone else to find out about it - and yet I would recommend EVERYONE to go! Expect a small venue, amazing fado, super super friendly staff, great wine for good prices, and nice finger food. If you are hungry, I'd probably recommend getting one bit somewhere else beforehand or having a late lunch. We ordered the 2 fish salads, the cheese platter and olives. But to be honest, you don't come for the food. You come for the incredible music and losing yourself in fado for the night. In total we paid 60 euros or something like that. One could say 'pricey' but you get a whole evening of performances with your food and wine. Great value if you ask me. MORE than worth it. We are coming back in February with our Spanish granny (who we bet will LOVE this place too), and are bound to take others here down the line as well. Just a must on a Lisbon trip (or when you've just moved here, like us!) We wanted to experience fado while we were in Lisbon but I didn’t want to just go where the tourists go. It was my first time to visit Fado music bar. So amazing and impressive it was. The senhor set my seat infront of the musician, and I could hear and watch their singing and playing guitar. I booked a table for two on the wrong date by accident. When I asked Helder to change the booking (I realized my mistake only one day in advance to the date I actually wanted to book the table for) he very kindly accommodated my request. The fado, the singers, the musicians, the atmosphere were just amazing. The service was excellent. The place is small, but very cosy and welcoming. We had cheese and salami boards, and sardines tapas, which were delicious and perfect to accompany the beers we ordered. I had mentioned to Helder that it was my birthday, and I even got surprise chocolate cake slices and candles - and a chorus of 'Happy birthday to you'! 😁 It was a lovely night, a great birthday celebration, and this is definitely one of the highlights of our visit to Lisbon. Despite limited fado knowledge, we felt in safe hands at this bar to enjoy a new form of music in a very relaxed atmosphere. It’s very intimate, starts at around 8pm and you can order from a limited menu of tapas and drinks - we had the cod and chickpea tapas and the cheese board and that was enough for both of us for three hours. We watched multiple singers (5 or 6) take turns to perform - all of whom were beautiful to listen to. The owner is really lovely and friendly. We booked a table for the 'Noites de Fado' and had a phenomenal experience. The music and singing was incredible. The beer and cheese went down well, while the Caiprinha was lovely. We really enjoyed our evening of soulful, traditional fado at this little wine and tapas bar. Helder was so warm to us and it is evident that his passion has made Duque da Rua the special place it is. We easily made a reservation via e-mail a few days in advance of our vist. We had such a wonderful night at the Duque da Rua. I was a little sceptical about going to see a Fado performance as I have been to lots of inauthentic cultural events around the world where the sole aim is to make money and where there is zero feeling or atmosphere. The Duque da Rua is the exact opposite. We got the impression that even if there were no customers the singers would still sing to one another just because they take joy in performing. It was one of their birthdays and about 10 other Fado performers came to help him celebrate. They were all amazing. The owner is also a really great guy. I wanted to hear fado, so I and wife looked on the internet different places and we decided to give a try to Duque da Rua. First, i message place via facebook, on the same day around 1600 and asked if they have a place for two of as, and within a few minues i got replay, Yes! So i was very happy about it (on wed.) Next we came there and they had reserved a nice place for us (we came around 19:55). First, place is not too big, so it is very good if you want to see the artists very close and feel the fado singing as close as it gets, so it is great, but second the prices are resonable for live fado performace, especially for surprises wr didnt expect! This place wont make you wait all evening, but fado singing starts approx., 20 min after opening, second, there is not just one artist, but on our evening we got to hear 6 different artists, where some of them at one point will fill fulfill your earthy needs and at one point will just start to sing and fulfilll your soul. Really nice evening! Food was more like snacks/tapas, but that is very good if you come to hear the fado and you just want to enjoy the drink and some snacks between a few short 10 minute brakes after at least 5-6 songs of fado! Definitly worth to go and have a nice evening, especially if you want to hear all sort of fado singing, from youth, more lively style to more mature, romantic and stronger, different voices in just one place, excellent! The biggest experience I wanted for my long-awaited trip to Portugal was to see Fado. I’ve dreamed about it for 15 years since I stumbled upon the legendary Amália Rodrigues. If you’re looking for a laid back bar to enjoy some drinks and tapas while listening to fado, this is the place. All the singers (all six of them!) took turns serenading us throughout the night. And the owner and waitstaff were extremely nice and welcoming. It is a very small bar so make sure to reserve a table or come as soon open. It is very casual and seems like a family run business. Fado session I attended was nothing short of amazing. Singers were like dropping by from the street and all of them turned out to be really up to a challenge. One or two of them were really really great. It is a night to remember. We went to duque da Rua to discover Fado and we loved it! The singers were passionate amateurs that made us feel very welcome. The atmosphere was very authentic and the dishes very good and fairly priced. Moreover the owner was incredibly kind and willing to make us discover more about Portuguese culture. Definitely local too, very different from tourist places. Amazing Fado show (free). Several singers took the "stage" each with varying styles and sound. The crowd grew as the night moved along with each new performer bringing friends to see the show. Myself and my partner went to Lisbon for a long weekend. On the first night that we arrived, our hotel recommended this fado bar. We were so impressed once we arrived. The bar is quite small which creates a wonderful intimate atmosphere. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Watching the owner/manager walking around was a pleasure as he interacted with different people in their own languages. The fado band and singers were wonderful too. There are several different singers performing throughout the night. Every singer is so different in style. Some songs were comical while others were much more emotional. You don’t need to speak the language to appreciate the feelings behind each song. On our last night we arrived again. It was very busy but the owner/manager remembered us and found us a seat. We watched a lot of people trying to come in but the owner tried to find everyone a seat even if it was only for half an hour. This place goes above and beyond to share the experience with everyone. The tapas was also delicious and the wine and beer were reasonably priced. We were there for several hours and had endless entertainment, 4-5 drinks each and tapas and the bill came to less than €40 each night. Just amazing. Can't say enough good things about this place. The owner is very involved and had good recommendations for the wine. He returned a reservations email I sent just a couple hours prior to opening. And he didn't rush us out the door when we paid because he was excited for us to hear more of the fado. This is a small place and it is not designed to be quick in and out. So be aware you may need to get the waiter's attention between songs or go up to the bar to pay. But the tapas are tasty and the cheese plate went especially well with the white wine. And the fado was so fun. There were over a half dozen singers all quite good. Some of them interacted with the crowd, sometimes we clapped among or hummed. A baby even starting laughing with the singer at one point. It was a magical experience to say the least. Wow. A fantastic fado experience. The Duque is essentially a hole in the wall where some of the singers will also be serving your food, playing hosts, or sitting the crowd. About 10 tables, great music and non intrusive waiting staff. No hidden fees, no minimum charge. Come for a (reasonable priced) drink and enjoy. Will definitley return next time I'm in Lisboa. What a night! At the beginning I was skeptical, having previously been to the Mascote da Atalaia and already having seen some beautiful Fado. But very quickly the atmosphere got to me and my wife. There were multiple performers - six, if I count correctly and each of them contributed a bit of themselves to the atmosphere. The singing went on for 3 whole hours. This is hard to match. The place itself is tiny so call the number here at Google Maps and make a reservation. They speak good English. The food is simple but tasty. We had cheese platter, ham platter and bread with tuna. All of these tapas were very good. The wine is not bad at all either. All in all we spent about 50 EUR for 2 people and I strongly feel this money was very well spent. There is no minimum charge though so what you get is what you pay. Overall this is a must if you want to try some Fado. I’d say come here and also go to Mascote da Atalaia. A truly memorable experience! We were in a big group of 13, all spending our last night in Lisbon together. I really wanted to see some fado before we left so we searched for a place that would have live fado on a tuesday night and found this place. Walking through the quiet city and seeing the small alley where Duque da Rua is located made us question if a) it would be open, and b) would we fit inside if so?! Finding the spot, we peered inside the small, narrow and fairly full bar, convinced we wouldn't fit. One of the performers/the host came outside and asked if we were here for fado and how many of us... he then managed to squeeze us in across a couple of tables! The atmosphere was amazing - expect to be shhh'd if you talk! - and the wine was lovely (approx €17 per bottle for house). Recommended by our travel guide, we went early on a Saturday night hoping for some entertainment. The bar is off a small street and is very cosy. The drinks prices were very reasonable and waiting staff were very friendly, accommodating locals who transform to become Fado performers once the show starts and in between intervals.
