  I had been in 48 countries. Some countries more than 30 times. We live in Dallas Texas and we love to visit Porto in Portugal. The Valentin is by far the best seafood restaurant that I visited in my life. I recommend this restaurant for everyone. If you are an American, this restaurant will make you very happy. Ask for Carlos the waiter. He is the one that we ask all the time. Ask for the jumbo shrimp and the cod fish on the grill. You will love it.   We walked down the street full of seafood restaurants and chose this one based on the volume of amazing looking fish coming off their grill. It was a great choice. Definitely a meal that I’ll remember for the rest of my life. Every single dish from appetizers to dessert was insanely good. Don’t expect any complicated dishes. It’s all simple food but perfectly prepared and seasoned. Even the fresh squeezed orange juice was out of this world.   One of the best spots to get fresh fish in Porto. We had the grilled cod and it was certainly one of the culinary highlights of our trip. The octopus salad was also very flavorful. Service was great and prices were not exorbitant. It's not near the old city center, but it is easy to get to with the metro.   I've been coming here for over a decade, it's the one place I always eat when I'm in the Porto area. The staff is always gracious if not a little brisk. The fish is as fresh as can be and cooked perfectly. They have a great selection of well priced wines both by the glass and bottle. This is my favorite fish restaurant...maybe in the world.   Crazy night at O Valentim We ordered a grilled octopus and a turbo fish. The octopus we’ve never seen and instead of the turbo, we had another fish, much smaller and cheaper. At the end, the turbo magically reappeared, but only on the bill. So, we payed 65 euros for a 1,25 kg turbo –fish (Rodovalho) that we’ve never seen in our dishes. My advice: check twice the bill, the order and the amounts, if necessarily use google translation for being sure that you pay for what you eat. Or, go to another restaurant then O Valentim.   We had an amazing evening at the restaurant. The atmosphere inside the restaurant and outside is very welcoming. The service is very helpful and friendly - don’t be afraid to ask for advice on portions ans what to order! The prawns and the grilled sea brass where delicious but my highlight was the monkfish stew - sooo good. We shared half a fish and half a portion of stew with two people and that worked great. The desserts were both delicious too, but maybe a bit too sweet and too much. All in all a really good place for amazing fresh fish and seafood!   We have a table book at 1400 and we waited 45min to be seated. Once we sat and we ordered the food, it took 1hour to received our order, really slow service. Nice seafood but not worth for the longer wait. Also, waiter mentioned talking all the languages Portuguese, English, German, Spanish but the only way to communicate was Portuguese.   What a wonderful place to eat and enjoy fresh seafood. The fish was something out of this world. The Vinho Verde house wine was beautiful. I highly recommend this place.   Great experience and great food. We are simple people and we like simple but good food and especially grilled fish. At a recommendation of a local friend in Porto we ended up here. The grilled Parga is delicious, you can ask for extra garlic sauce to put on it and it’s divine! Also the shrimps on a stick with calamari is delicious. We also had the shrimp with garlic as a starter and olives. The portions are big so mind what you order. I am writing his review at home and I can say this restaurant was the best in Portugal and we did eat in at least 20 places in over 2 weeks.   I tried a number of seafood restaurants in Matosinhos but this one turned to be exceptional for the following reasons. 1.I wanted to have Oysters as a starter but nobody incl them had those. So, the O Valente restaurant Boss personally booked a place for me in the other place in the same building on terrace and I had a fresh oysters I dreamed about with the Alvarinho wine. 2.After I have finished that I decided to come back to O Valente restaurant for the grilled octopus, white fish fillet (turbot) and amazing clams. All those dishes were a perfect freshness and taste! 3. When I was finishing my meal the restaurant was 100% engaged by the Locals that means a lot ! So, I would highly recommend thatplace and will come back tomorrow before my flight!   Had a fantastic lunch here at what is clearly a very popular place. Really friendly staff who were happy to clarify menu items and make suggestions, as the range of options were a little bewildering! Super cool that you can choose a whole fish which is cooked outside on a charcoal grill - we had to wait 40 minutes to get a table but were kept entertained by the chefs outside cooking a wide range of fish in front of us. Drinks were good too, and pretty reasonably priced - even the fancier bottles of wine were under €20 and outshone anything you'd get for that price even in a UK supermarket, let alone a restaurant!   We stayed at the Hotel above the restaurant. The room was very clean and had everything we needed. We forgot our key inside our room and attended a weeding after. We only noticed that the keys me missing late at night and the staff was very nice to us. We were so worried but the staff was so professional and assured us that we had nothing to worry about.   Mixed feelings about this place because we had a nice meal but it ended with us having a bit of a tummy ache after. It was the only meal we had that day so I know it was definitely from there but the food was really nice. Could have just been bad luck on our end. For starters we had the pimentos, which were perfectly seasoned and even some which were spicy! We ordered grilled prawns, squids and cod fish. I’m not sure why our waiter brought us a plate with squid and prawns and a separate squid. His English was not good so it was a little hard for us to communicate this. The tomato rice was also well seasoned and went well with cod. Nice wine selection too, we had the Quinta da avedela, a vinho verde that was recommended to us from elsewhere which paired perfectly with the seafood. Qualquer restaurante é avaliado por toda a experiência e não apenas pela comida. Leve isso a sério e faça alguma coisa.

  Today we had a lunch on about 15:00 we asked for 2 different dishes but waitress told us that they were not available. Afterwards we ordered one portion of squid but he brought us instead of one 2 portions . The food was fair the salad was bad. I do not recommend to join.   Excellent, very fresh fish cooked on charcoal. Simple and delicious. I recommend eating the sardines with salad and asking for potatoes (baked). The sardines alone at €9 per kilo are well worth it. We also ordered John Dory as they were out of snapper, but the sardines (on the large side) were the highlight for me. Recommended stop if you're in Porto. The turbot that was recommended to us by the staff, came in quickly and was grilled to perfection. The clams that came in 'bulhao pato' style and also tasted great.   If I can give negative star, I would! Except for our very horrible experience at "Restaurante O Valentim", the rest are really good and people are friendly. We realised that there are plenty of restaurants serving roast fish/seafood after "Restaurante O Valentim", we REGRET to just walked in to this restaurant which is the 1st one on the street. The reason we don't like "Restaurante O Valentim" and will never go back again are as follows: 1. Attitude problem : While sitting in Restaurante O Valentim waiting for our food (which was a extremely long wait), a woman who seemed to be some sort of owner/manager of the restaurant put her hands THROUGH our table to greet the customers sitting at the table next to us a couple of times!!! With her hands waving between us and spoke loudly to other customers(felt like shouting beside our ears), we felt that we wanted to just leave the restaurant. 2. Extremely long waiting time 3. Food quality : I ordered squid, which was okay. I wish we had a place like this in New York City.   We were recommended this place by our Portuguese Airbnb host and it was amazing! We loved it! The place is located next to other seafood restaurants and they all have a covered terrace in the street, where they also prepare the food, so you can see the produce. They offer private free parking for their guests. The service is very nice and the seafood and fish just incredibly fresh and perfectly cooked. We ordered shrimps, sardines, calamari, pepper salad, drinks and dessert and only paid 45€. It was the best dinner we had in Porto.
