  So much potential but utterly let down by service. The waitress got our starter wrong - ok happens - but we had to wait an hour for it to be replaced. Meanwhile other tables we’re getting their starter and main. The lady I think is the owner visited every table asking how their meal was except ours! The main course of cod was ok, but needed a sauce or something. My wife got the wrong pork but after the earlier delay we just took it.   This restaurant is amazing ! Staff is superb and our meals were delicious . A true diamond in the rough so glad we found this gem!   The atmosphere itself is nice and cosy, the staff are welcoming and eager to assist. The soup (cauliflower purée with bits of bacon) was 3/5, lacked flavour. The main course - octopus, cauliflower paste and sweet potato - were, regrettably, soaked in oil and it kind of ruined the whole meal. Hence, I decided to forgo the dessert. To make matters worse, I developed a strong bout of vomiting in a few hours after dinner in the middle of the night. I have a strong reason to suspect that the octopus was either out of date or poorly stored and/or prepared, as this was the only dish that was different between me and my partner.   The best restaurant on Sao Miguel. The tuna and, especially, the pork belly were gorgeous. The wine recommended by the hostess was the same as we have chosen by ourselves, it was a local Azorean volcanic rose wine of a very good quality. The restaurant was fully book despite the low season, so I would recommend to book a table some days in advance - this gastronomic experience on Sao Miguel worth it.   I was super excited to go and try their dessert but when I got there they told me they don’t allow you to go and just have a dessert, without a meal. That was weird because in their menu the desserts have a price (not as part of the meal).   The food was good, my tuna had a bit too much fat on one end that I would have rather not had. The garlic bread is delish and so was the dessert, overall good. We went for lunch because finding a table for dinner was not possible, for the difficulty finding a table I guess I expected more then good, but it is still a nice food experience.   Delicious and adequately priced. We reserved a table for two, two days in advance, because getting a table as a walk in was not possible. But the wait was definitely worth it. The food was great and for this quality I was pleasantly surprised by the price. The rare tuna Filet with sesame was absolutely marvelous and is something to come back for. The staff was welcoming and very attentive, which was very fitting for the cozy atmosphere of the restaurant. If you spend time in Ponta Delgada I would definitely recommend to book a table here.   This place is a gem! My wife and I went here for dinner on our honeymoon and it was one of the highlights of our trip! We split the sesame crusted tuna and pork belly dishes. The tuna was incredibly fresh and bark on the pork belly was unreal! We have dined at Michelin star restaurants throughout NYC and Europe.   Finally, a restaurant where we could make an online reservation! We could only get a 7 PM reservation, but that was fine. It was busy and people were being turned away later. My husband had one of their specialties – kind of a pot pie filled with seafood and covered with puff pastry. (The waiter shows you how to cut into it and serve it.) It was ridiculously large but he ate every bit of it! I had their sesame encrusted tuna served on top of sweet potatoes and spinach. Both were excellent.   Entire experience was that of 'fine dining'. My shrimp appetizer were perfectly prepared with an exemplary tomato/pepper/garlic sauce (wished I could jar the remaining sauce and take home). The accompanying sliced bread was perfect for dipping. My lamb entree was over the top good. 4 large slowly cooked pieces of lamb, over sweet yams, w arugula/baby toms drizzled w balsamic at the side. I have a good appetite but could not finish the delicious lamb. Others in our party enjoyed apps including fresh green salads, and Caprese salads, which were also excellent, plentiful servings. Entrees included the steak (similar to flank steak), and fresh tagliatelle bow tie pastas with fresh tomato/mushrooms/peppers/garlic. Douro regional wine (13 euro a bargain), and desserts (panacotta w red fruit, and chocolate mousse), capped a perfect meal. Four flavours of liqueurs comped at the end by our server.   Can't say enough about this amazing Restaurant. After a minor issue with the booking, 6 of us sat and enjoyed every bite. The seafood pie is an experience yo don't want to miss, cutting into the flakey puff pastry to reveal a variety of seafood in a broth. Outstanding!!!   Enjoyed our meal very much. Just a couple of things worth mentioning. I ordered two sides for my main meal, however they were not brought out at the same time, nor were they brought out at the same time as the other guests’ meals. So we all waited. The fries lacked salt, and they gave me a side plate instead of a larger dinner plate. Desserts were very good, including their presentation. However, the topping on the apple crisp dessert was way too thick and lacked any real flavour. Soap in the bathroom was watered down, and there were no hand towels to dry your hands. Atmosphere is very nice, tasteful decor, great vibe. Menu selection very good. Service was impeccable. Servers are knowledgeable, offered good suggestions and were very pleasant.   Reservations are a must! Myself and three others tried to eat here for lunch last week but got turned away. This was disappointing, but we understood and booked in for dinner a few days later. Having now eaten at Michel’s I can confirm that the food is wonderful. However, because other reviews described this restaurant as having an “intimate” atmosphere we’d been expecting a peaceful dining experience. What we got though was a small room packed with close to 40 people all seated close together particularly in the middle row where we were placed. You honestly couldn’t even re-adjust your chair without bumping into the diner sitting behind you. Unfortunately this made quiet conversation impossible even with the person across from you. Our reservation was also for 7:00pm but we didn’t leave the restaurant until 10:00pm. It took three hours to get our appetizers, main courses and desserts. This was horrendously boring since we couldn’t even talk with each other easily to pass the time. I recognize that everything was made fresh and that it was busy from the moment the restaurant opened. But I feel that our primary complaints could have been solved by either staggering reservation times better or at least having additional staff on hand to help with flow.   I spent a week exploring the Azores Island and this was honestly the best meal I had the entire trip! I’ve ordered lamb many times at different restaurants and the lamb I ate here was the best. The food is so exceptional. You cannot leave the island without eating here.   I never write reviews, but my experience was so wonderful there that I had to. The food was amazing and the service was even better. I had the sea bowl, the Caprese salad and the apple crumble dessert and they were all delicious. My server was kind enough to show me how to eat the sea bowl. I would definitely suggest making a reservation because even on a Wednesday night they were completely booked.   Cozy little restaurant, liked the interior design, wouldn't have guessed it from the outside. Definitely make reservations beforehand. The waiting staff was very friendly, gave recommendations, asked us several times if everything was alright. We had the garlic bread as appetizer, I had the countryside salad which was delicious and my partner had a steak, where he especially loved the grilled vegetables as a side. The only small critique is have is that they drizzled store bought chocolate sauce over the amazing apple crumble with ice cream. We even were treated a digestif on the house. The prices are really fair for the amount and quality, so I would recommend.   My husband and I tried to go to Michel’s for dinner one night but it was full, however we were able to make a lunch reservation for the next day. We were so glad we did! My husband had the tuna steak and loved it, and I had a steak which was also delicious. It’s a small restaurant, so reservations are definitely recommended.   When you come to a place with a 4.7 rating which is fully-booked most of the time, you expect top-level food, service, everything...here we found some average food (some really oversalted farfalle), a nice setting and OK service. Piri-piri shrimps - overcooked and not peeled properly (intestines not removed). Farfalle - really tasty sauce but oversalted. Tuna - was good but had some huge pieces of salt that could break a tooth (they call it flor do sal, but it's just huge sea salt...). Overall it was OK, but manage your expectations. Food looks better than it is prepared. UPDATE: stomach ache and diarrhea 2 hours after.   A bit disappointed as we had really been looking forward to this place from all the reviews. We went for the first lunch serving and the building smelled a bit damp. There was a fly buzzing around our table. It took quite a long time to get drinks and close to an hour to get our food, which we were fine with, however when we received it both our meals were cold. We ordered the crispy tuna with sesame seeds and the bacano steak. The tuna had great flavours and we did enjoy it, but the mashed sweet potatoes it was served with were cold (I'm not sure if this was on purpose). We requested the steak medium rare and received it medium well (also cold). Thankfully the ginger added a nice flavour. The servers were quite friendly and the presentation was excellent. Maybe we just had bad timing but our experience didn't live up to the hype. Definitely make a reservation in advance as we saw multiple people being turned away even before the restaurant was completely full. After my mushroom starter was served lukewarm, I had to ask if my seared Tuna main on a sweet potatoe bed was supposed to be hot or not. It must have been left sitting around somewhere unloved. Waitress apologised & offered a replacement (also great) but my wife had received her meal and I was not prepared to risk another long wait so decided to go with what I had. We also decided not to risk a pudding and asked for the bill. When the waitress brought it over my main had not been included! (Amazing really as they are a business.) Whilst kind, there was something lacking in the spirit of this gesture because we were not offered the free liqueur that I noticed every other table had received. So, a mixed review but on balance I would have preferred to pay in full for the anticipated fabulous quality of meal served in a timely manner & no hard feelings either way.   Definitely one of the best (if not the best) restaurant on this island! Very friendly and helpful waiters, good service, and food so tasty that I made a reservation for the next day. It also has good value for money. To start our meal we decided to have a rose from Pico Island (Azorean wine). Very light and fruity. For starters we had the assortment of Portuguese sausages and the fresh cheese with bread. The chouriço was good, morcela was interesting and alheira was definitely different (sausage with hints of paprika and cinnamon). For mains we had the house specialties, the seared tuna with sesame seeds (rare) and the pork belly. Both of were tasty, but that tuna was simply delicious! It's definitely a must try if you visit the restaurant. Unfortunately we were too full for dessert but I'll be back soon to try more.   This place was a surprise that I didn’t expect to stumble upon. I did all of my research before arriving on Saõ Miguel but I didn’t see this gem. It was lunch, so I kept it light (jokingly because I probably ate an entire stick of butter). I had the limpets because I had never had those. They were fabulous. The shell looks most like a large clam shell but the meat looks like a mussel on the bottom with a tougher orange top. Michel Restaurant delivered them on a sizzling plate, full of garlic, butter, and parsley. I also had the piripiri (chili pepper) shrimp! Hot damn, they were good! They were also spicy! I would order that shrimp dish every day, if I could! Service was impeccable and the ambiance in the restaurant was fantastic! I highly recommend and am thankful that I found this place! It’s #1!   Due to the other reviews the expectation was high. I must say that one of the staff members was very kind and helpful, the others seemed a bit stressed.   We had dinner at this very nice restaurant, with great service. We didn’t experience any waiting time. On the contrary, service was fast and there was great flexibility regarding the time of our reservation. Thank you very much for that!   Absolutely fabulous dinner with incredible service at Michel. The waitresses were very knowledgeable about the menu and even gave us a few free extras, like a delicious after dinner drink and some yummy chocolates with our check. The meal was perfect— gorgeous tuna over a spinch and sweet potato mixture, and a really delicious curry chicken tagliatelle. Highly recommend!   Michel was recommended by a local girl. i made reservations online for one. Very easy. The decor is very minimalist and love that. The clocks on the wall, the paisley table clothes, the white X back chairs. The music was perfect. My waitress who I found out was the owner's sister was incredibly helpful and pleasant. I started with toasted garlic bread, then the seafood salad, very fresh. She suggested the braised slow cooked pork over a creamy slaw. Excellent suggestion. Again cooked perfectly. I normally don't like to give my entire order at one time, because a not so good server will bring it all out at once, I had confidence that this wouldn't happen here. I was right. Every course I was given adequate time to digest and enjoy my wine. I finished with a chocolate mousse and she was kind to offer me an appetif of local blackberry liquor. The ice cube really was perfect as it chilled the liquor. Hadn't thought of that. I would go back again in a minute. Not to mention my entire dinner came to 29 eur. Thank you for your hospitality.   We reserved a table a week in advance. We had a beautiful table and our server was incredible. She recommended us some of the best affordable wine that we had on the island. The tuna was out of this world and the cod pastry was prepared perfectly. I would highly recommend reserving a table here if you're in the area.   Michel is a gem in Sao Miguel that we went to 3 times for takeout while in Sao Miguel. I would definitely come back when I am in Ponta Delgada again as it is one of my favourite restaurants this last year. The food was delicious and upscale but at a fantastic price. Our favourite mains were the duck rice (arroz de pato), pork belly (barriga de porco), crispy sesame tuna (atum crocante), but honestly all of the mains that we got were great. Michel is one of those amazing restaurants that you really could go back, order anything on the menu, and not be dissapointed. We luckily lived a minute away so the takeut was always warm. All dishes were fantastic, a perfect mix of traditional flavours with new and fresh elements! Try it out and you won't regret it!   The best experience i had during my stay in azores, the staff, the restaurant itself and the food were the best we found, so mutch so we came back the next day. The concept of a more modern cuisine never forgeting its regional roots was just breathtaking. Not as known as some other options but defenatly underrated in my humble opinion this cozy restaurant will defenatly be one of the most known in the comming years.   We had a weekend trip to Ponta Delgada, and liked dinner here so much we decided to eat the next night too. The staff was so helpful in suggesting wine and entrees, and we were sad to say goodbye.   This place is absolutely amazing. The service and care is second to none! The food is fresh and the most tasty I've had on the island. Words can't describe the experience at Michel!! I am by no means used to this kind of service or class but it was the best experience we had on the Island. If/ when we come back, this will be a must resteraunt to visit.   Amazing meal. Had the duck rice (generous amount of duck, probably the best duck I've ever had) and the fish special for mains, the spicy shrimp and garlic bread for apps. Loved everything.   I really wanted to pass on a good comment as the place looked nice, place wasn’t crowded with tourists (was newly opened), prices were lower and not over priced, and the stuff was very nice. However based on the food I would not eat here again. Both pastas we had were really plain and you could tell the kitchen has only basic cooking experience. However the wine portions per glass were rather generous.   Nice ambiance. Food was excellent and somewhat different from the standard Sao Miguel fare. The Duck Rice was fantastic.
