  Great little restaurant that boasts a fantastic chef and his trainees. The pumpkin soup with swordfish was light yet flavoursome, the fish of the day was squid on a bed of basmati rice with finely chopped carrot and courgette with a splash of lemon and the main I had was a slow cooked beef joint on a bed of smooth mashed potato with an assortment of toasted veg. Their green tea was absolutely amazing so I had to have another. Overall a really beautiful meal and at €52 for gourmet dishes like that with soft ambient music funking in the background, who wouldn't wanna dine here.   A lovely dinner for four! We ordered a couple of beers and mains of the roasted pumpkin risotto, the grilled tuna, the Azorean beef short rib and the pork ribs. We ended by sharing the orange tart.   Probably among the nicest restaurants in Ponta Delgada. The staff is really nice and professional, the menu is quite complete and diverse. A special mention to the swordfish (as a first plate and second plate) wish was perfectly cooked and had a taste right out of heaven. The sauces are also to die for. We were a bit disapointed in comparison by the sting ray and it's broth which were not as tasteful while the idea of an asian broth seems the right idea. Same with the vegetables which accompagnied the plates, they were raw and not really seasoned, which was more frustrating in comparison. All in all, from the staff, the entry plate to the desert on top of the fine selection of wine, I would definitely recommend this place which offers a really nice, cosy and fancy evening. Reserve in advance as it is quite often full. The prices are higher than regular restaurants but compared to other fancy ones i would say the price is worth it. Thank you for this moment ! Reserve com antecedência pois muitas vezes fica lotado.   We went here over a year ago and I still dream about the local mushrooms dish that we ordered. Even my partner (who is not the biggest fan of mushrooms) still refers to them as the best mushrooms he ever had. In addition to those, the other dishes we ordered were top notch and the staff ensured that we ordered a superior meal. Chef Joel was incredible and we loved chatting with him about his local and international inspirations from his day to day life and travels. If you’re in Ponta Delgada, this place is a must go! While it was our priciest meal on the island, I would gladly go back in a heartbeat since it was well worth it!   Good - not excellent. We (2 people) had 4 dishes and one dessert. Everything was good and I had the feeling that all of the dishes have a high quality of ingredients, but could use an extra portion of seasoning (especially the lamb, which was very soft, but otherwise a bit bland).   I will just share some observations of that day: 1. We had a reservation, but they couldn't find it. We showed the waiter our booking confirmation. We could get a place outside. 2. There was a living caterpillar in the side salad of one dish. They served me a new one. Opinion: Place outside didn't have any ambience, and there were flies circling above us. waiters seemed rushed.   Tasquinha Vieira is a restaurant of nice architecture and a great place to have a special dinner. It only has a few tables in the front, but along a winding corridor you end up in a small open-air corner and a bar, very unique. The food comes in small portions, ideal to share several courses together. The price is rather high, but the food, the service and the special ambiente is absolutely worth it. The portion was small, and the food was quite bland, without much special touch, as we had in other restaurants on the island so far.   Bravo across the board. A tiny place with perfect ambiance of quality but low key. The kitchen is at the heart of the restaurant and open so that all guests can watch the chefs. And watch we did, it was a well run machine. Our waiter/host gave epic wine recommendations and we got to taste some fabulous wines from the Azores. The menu was simple and to the point - every dish we had was surprising and delicious. All plates cost 12€; I did think some of the dishes weren’t worth that price. However, some dishes were worth more so it evened out in my mind. All in all, laid back and stunning meal. I left happy, a little buzzed but not too full. Would love to go back.   A gem in the middle of a lot of restaurants in the center of Ponta Delgada. The food is amazing and the service excellent! The place is fancy, with care of details and the dishes are not ordinary! Great selection of local wines as well. They recommend to take 3 dishes each to have a full meal and we add a delicious creme brulee with orange hint. The fish served is fresh and prepared to highlight the natural taste. The price is in line with what we ate. All the dishes cost around 12 euro each and it is actually cheap considering the quality.   This trendy restaurant focus mainly on seafood dishes in tapas format. Our favorite item was the leeks wrapped in pork that accompanied the mackerel. I could eat those all day.   This place was amazing-small but lovely in heart of the city. I recommend three dishes: mushrooms, pork Celeste and “ snack of the day” which was fresh swordfish with leeks and bacon.   Overpriced, tiny plates. Fish was about 2 Oz and sat in a bowl of pepper shavings. They poured a broth over it. Hard to cut through. Bland, tasted a little like pimento. Wine 8 euros for a swallow.   We came with high expectations- maybe too high expectations after reading the reviews. The atmosphere in this tiny place is nice, the place is popular- even in January. The food is for the most part very good, we loved the mushrooms in particular. However, the fried deep sea water fish was mostly dow and hardly fish. Instead of picking up the comment, the waiter was not very open. That’s not the type of service I’d expect in such a place. Overall you get what you pay for but we enjoyed other places more in Ponta Delgada.   Review on service only - We went in and the place was empty and we were told to sit at a table in the main room. Five minutes later the server told us our table was reserved and we had to move when he was the one who sat us at the table. When that happened a guy who either seemed like the chef or manager told us we can wait in the back and gave us a complimentary glass of wine until he was able to seat us at a table. This was a nice gesture. However we waited in the back for a good while and were ignored. This is when we decided to leave. Lots of great places in Ponta Delgada where patrons are not ignored or hidden in the back room. I also found it interesting that all the patrons in the front room were white and were were the only Latin American patrons, and coincidentally the ones moved to a table in the back. Just something that caught my attention, since there was many empty tables when we got there.   A small(er) restaurant with not that many tables. This creates a nice and quite cosy atmosfere. The staff are very friendly and enthousiastic. The food itself was great. We ordered several smaller dishes (I believe 6 in total for 2 people) and had a great evening for about 41 euros a person. Wine recommendation and dessert are also on point!   I cannot recommend this place enough. 5 stars does not justify how incredible this restaurant is. The service is fantastic- each employee greeted us with such warmth when we waited for our table and throughout our meal. The food quality is fresh and perfectly paired. They recommend about 3 dishes per person since everything is tapas style. Most would think that the quantity of food would be too much, however, each dish is flavourful and light. We ordered the daily soup (this soup was delicious and should not be overlooked), bread (simple yet so fresh), curry muscles, the mushrooms and the 6hr roasted angus beef. Each dish sent us into a euphoric food experience. Will be recommending to friends visiting and worth a visit on your trip. The mushroom dish was surprisingly our favorite. All of the items we had were unique but very flavorful. The decor is very nice with some mood lighting.   This is a nice gem in the heart of Ponta Delgada but the design of some of the dishes is simple off. The lamb tacos came in a broth and had a mild tast. When it comes to tacos you want your tortilha dried instead of soggy. All the sauce was dripping while i was eating. By another side, the mushrooms dish was the most tasteful dish but you couldnt feel the taste of the mushrooms, there was too much going on with the leak, the mustard seeds, etc. The soup was boring. The service was also a bit clampsy. The tuna stake with vegatables was a wonderfull surprise.   For us, there's one word describing the restaurant: Overrated. We read about ut and looked at a lot of photo that previous visitors took. When we arrived, the restaurant looked amazing. The menu was disappointing. The concept is: only snacks. But one snack is about 10€ and they recommend 3 snacks per person. We ordered bread, which was OK. A vegetable soup that tasted like nothing. A very nice tuna tartar which was way too small for 12 €. A chorizo clam mix with kidney beans out of the can. All in all we payed round about 50€ and went out still hungry. You get so much better food at sao miguel and pay a lot less money. It lacked of taste, size and was nothing special.   The best food I had so far in Portugal. To be honest, I am here only for a few days yet but I am pretty certain this will remain among the top for a long time if not forever. The Angus Beef spent 6hours in the oven and only so little time in my mouth. It is delicious. Highly recommend also the Mushrooms from the neighboring islands.   Sad to say this place was quite disappointing. Read some great reviews here but the restaurant did not meet my expectations. Small place with very loud music (which did not fit the atmosphere the restaurant aimed to set). The dishes were small in size and even though very fresh and good ingredients were used, all dishes seemed plain, bland and uninspired. Most dishes were a simple execution of what you ordered; nothing memorable or inspiring/amazing. Mismatch between the (somewhat forced) air of fine dining and actual execution. Better places are to be found in the vicinity of you ask me. It seemed this place was doing a lot better before. Hopefully it can return to that standard again!   This is a shadow from his former glory. I came here in 2020, awesome experience, excellent food and quantities. I came back 2022… they don’t have those fantastic starters (cheese and butter with bread), quantities are ridiculously small and prices are high. I was served a small portion of fish and cow, the last one was a bit dry. The service was excellent though. But I sure had a different experience in 2020.   Honestly it was a bit disappointing. We heard and read very positive things. In general the lunch was ok. But the squid was overcooked (very hard to bite). When mentioning it to the waiters (after been asked why not be aten) he mentioned it to the chef.   Eaten here twice in the last month. Relaxed atmosphere, modern but understated design. The owner (Joel - think I have that spelling right!), staff are very welcoming and genuinely friendly. The kitchen is in the middle so you can see all the preparations which I like. A small menu selection but high quality and everything super tasty!   Fantastic restaurant in the heart of Ponta Delgada. Clearly the best restaurant in the city, combines really high quality ingredients with slightly novel twists on classic Portuguese dishes. The grilled tuna and the piri piri chicken are must haves. The space and service are really nice and absolutely exceptional in the city. The only drawbacks are that the place is realtively small (but that's maybe what allows service to remain excellent ) and the place can get VERY busy. They don't take reservations.   Went here mid-November close to when they opened at 7 and got seats for 2 without a reservation. The food was amazing, one of the best restaurants I have been to in Portugal! The restaurant itself is small and the menu offerings slim, but makes up for it in coziness and of course the quality of the food. It was cool to see the chefs preparing our meals as the kitchen was open to the dining area. The wait staff were all so welcoming, kind and attentive (wish I remembered their names!). We were even given an extra glass of wine each on the house! I am by no means a food connoisseur, but if you’re looking for an amazing meal for a good price AND outstanding service, this place is a must!   Just finished a staggeringly good meal here. Swordfish to start and prime rib. Tender and beautifully seasoned.   Amazing food and service. They were very busy last night, which is always a good sign in a tuesday raining day, but we could not fault them. Staff were very professional and attentive, you could feel they cared. My partner asked for one of the fish dishes that was sold out or unavailable but they were happy to provide a double portion of a fish curry starter instead. My beef dish was superb and massive. As a good Brazilian I delighted myself eating such tasty beef ribs. Haven't eating tender meat like that in a very long time. Definitely not in London. Delicious melon pannacota as well.   We stumbled into Tasquinha Vieira on a Friday night a little before 10pm. It was hands down the best meal we had on Sao Miguel. We had the mushroom bruschetta, my husband had the beef tenderloin, I had the white trevally, and we shared the chocolate hazelnut mousse.   Outstanding food and excellent (if a little slow) service. We liked it so much that er went there twice during our 7-day stay in Porta Delgada. Small; fills up early. We had no wait when we arrived as a party of 3 at 6:40pm both times, but the restaurant filled up very quickly. The "Azorean cow" short rib was delectable, and the Piri Piri chicken was almost as good. The chocolate hazelnut dessert was similarly amazing.   Let me start by saying.. the food we had was incredibly delicious. The squid entree was heaven, and the fish main was divine. This place has so much potential, but it’s actually really sad to say that unless they get more service staff they will fail. There was one poor guy trying to seat people, keep a list of tables and serve 8 tables.. it just didn’t work. There were tables sitting empty for 25 minutes while people waited in line, Once you sat at your table you had to wait again... and we had to wait 50 minutes after our mains to get any service at all... we had planned to order dessert but after waiting so long we just wanted to leave. First time in my life I’ve considered walking out without paying because of the service. It’s not ok- get your act together. The restaurant is beautiful and the food amazing and really well cooked, HOWEVER, the lack of staff ruins the experience.. we waited 1 hour for the waiter to bring the bill!!!!   Incredible food! Worth the lengthy wait because we came at peak hours(waited in line outside, waited at the table to order. Ended up being 3 hour ordeal). The slow cooked Azorean cow was one of the best beef dishes I've ever had. My wife had the fresh tuna steak and it was cooked perfectly--rare, as it should be! The octopus carpacchio appetizer was also excellent. Everything was of excellent value. The waiter recommend coming between 630-730 or after 930 to avoid the super-long wait.   Decent food. We had piri piri chicken with rice - really tasty, and reasonably priced. We arrived at 7:30 (midweek) and managed to get a table straight away. The remaining tables were taken well before 8pm - so arrive early or expect to wait. The only negative is that the service, once seated, was slow.   Absolutely loved this place ! It's small and cozy place and has a very modern atmosphere. The waiter was very attentive and always made sure we were ok, he also let me sample the wine before committing to a bottle / glass which was nice.   The restaurant may seem to be very small, when you look from the street but, there is a back room and an "extra pateo", a free space were it is possible to smoke and enjoy the good Azores weather, wile eating or drinking. :-) The confection is very tasty and the options are very surprising. The prices are a bit above the average but, in Azores, they usually are.   It's my favourite restaurant in Ponta Delgada! It's a small place and you can't get a reservation. If you are two and arrive early in the evening. it will be easier to find a table.   We saved the best for last! This is a dining experience not to be missed in Ponta Delgada! They had only been in business less than two months when we visited in late November 2017. Still, we expect they will still be there no matter how long it takes us to return to this beautiful island because the food is just fabulous! We had the Verde Soup and Sausage with creamy rice and baked apple for starters. The soup was great, but the sausage & rice dish was superb! Our entree was the Tomahawk Steak. Never tasted a better steak in my life! The staff was very helpful and made sure we enjoyed every moment. The prices were quite reasonable for the high quality food they serve.
