  Great food. Service was a bit slow. But the atmosphere makes it worth it. In the upper floor (3rd) it feels like you are sitting in a living room of someone's else house. They have 4 floors with plenty of tables. We reserved a table one day in advance. Recommended to go there. If you can, take a table in the upper floors.   Raiz was a great restaurant with a great atmosphere! We had Taline as a server and she was the best and so thoughtful with recommendations inside and outside of Portugal.   Amazing!!!! My husband and I shared the octopus ceviche, Portuguese plate with meats and cheeses, the pork tenderloin entree and a Portuguese pudding with port wine ice cream. We have been traveling in Spain and Portugal eating some good food but none compared to here! Everything was delicious. Our favorite meal of the trip!   Don't be fooled by the empty ground floor, the action is on the upper floors. The food is one level above its price range. I was pleasently surprised that every dish was near perfection. The Veal Tournedo was more medium than rare, but still enjoyable and the wine quality/price ratio was surprisingly good.   This is a special place you shouldn't miss out on. Our server, Nuno, recommended fabulous dishes and thoughtfully led us through our meal. Everything was fantastic, from the homemade bread with beautiful olive oil and tapenade, creamy mushroom gratin, and grilled octopus with potatoes and figs to the dessert: Portuguese pudding with port wine ice cream. We sat in a beautiful candlelit room 2 floors up with a lovely view of Clérigos in the background. Nothing on the menu was overpriced, and we wish we could have tried it all.   Food is good, well presented and quite with research. Staff is kind and dynamic. But it definitely does not justify the high prices of this restaurant. You can eat well and for much cheaper in Porto. And the difference between typical Portuguese dishes and the ones in this restaurant does not explain such a price.   Nono our server was excellent. The food was a terrible miss. We were very excited to eat here. it was our first dinner in Portugal. The oxtail crockets were stone cold. Nono brought back a hot batch and it was delicious. Then it took a very long time for dinner to arrive. When it did the lamb was raw. My wife's food was great. So by that time our appetizers were off sync and now dinner was off sync too. So it ruined our experience. When the food was delivered correctly it was very good. Service was superb.   Truly portughese. Only a couple of table with tourists, while the others were with locals. As intimate as it is, we recommend to book with one day in advance.   We were served like kings and drinks came very fast after ordering, we can recommend the cocktail "Porto Tónico", see picture. The meals came hot and were just delicious. They have excellent port vines for tasting. The atmosphere in the building of old wood is just amazing, especially in the evening. I can clearly recommend this restaurant, though it is not one of the cheapest. You get, what you pay for and this is worth every cent.   Found this delightful restaurant just by browsing on the Internet, and I'm glad I did. Housed in a tall building, we climbed up to the top floor into an atmospheric room, with doors open onto a small balcony and the square below. Great menu of Portuguese dishes with a good selection of meat and fish dishes. Lots of new things for us to try. I had: - Alheira: Oven Baked Alheira Puff Pastry with Sprout Bedding - Old-fashioned oven roasted octopus: with Sautéed Potatoes and vegetables The Alheira was stuffed with slow cooked, shredded, smoked Portuguese sausage - delicious. I debated having the octopus, but so pleased I did. Smoky flavours and beautifully tender. Nicely salted crispy new potatoes and plenty of tasty veg. Highly recommended. Loved it! When called the next day the claimed owner stayed he could only give a cash refund. When reminded of the plastic in the butter was accused of lying. Food was tasty but not hot when served.   Last night we dined at this restaurant and though it was nice food and a pleasant experience, I found plastic in my butter for my starter, which I was happy to overlook until we reviewed the invoice today to find that we got charged for an extra 2 glasses of wine. When we called the next day to tell the man, he asked ‘what do you want me to do about it?’ We then asked if he could refund our card for the wine we did not order- he told us he could not refund the Visa we paid with unless it was in person… we kindly explained that we are no longer in Porto and that we’d appreciate a refund over card (we’ve owned businesses before and refunded over card many times, in many different systems) I also let him know that we found plastic in my food to which he replied ‘You are lying’. Are you kidding me??? How horrible to say that to a customer you have overcharged. Needless to say we did not get our refund and he told me to ‘go ahead, and do whatever we wanted to about it’. So here I am, letting people know to go elsewhere where the owners don’t deal with poor experiences like this. I love to recommend places and give good reviews. Enjoy Porto without stopping here.   Staff were really lovely but they had so many tables arrive for a 7pm booking that we didn’t even have a drinks order taken until after 7.30 - the waitress was so apologetic and really lovely, just overwhelmed! The food was really average compared to other food we’ve had so far in Porto - everything felt a bit under seasoned and slightly over cooked. The starters or tapas style dishes were so vinegary we couldn’t eat one at all. It was however one of the pest Porto Tonicos I’ve had so far!   The venue is beautifully presented and staff incredibly warm and willing to help. We showed up with no reservation and off the back of the google reviews were met with a full restaurant, the maître-d worked to accommodate us. Unfortunately we cannot say the same about the food. The codfish was overcooked, and the risotto was under seasoned and lacked depth. We left a little disappointed as the reviews did not meet the dishes presented.   This place is a little gem with a great, intimate atmosphere. We sat in the window and watched the world go by. The food was a good introduction to Portuguese cuisine- we had the small(er) plates and they were delicious. Particular highlights- codfish fritters, mushroom gratin(really cheesy and creamy) and the salad with yoghurt dressing. Waitress was so friendly and nice as well. Great place to have dinner. My husband and I arrived for our reservation at 7 pm on a Saturday and we had the best seats - I’d say it started getting busy around 8. I recommend the rack of lamb and chocolate lava cake for dessert.   We went here for dinner on a Sunday night. The place is beautifully decorated and has 3 floors. We were seated on the top floor, which offered a beautiful night view of the city. Our waiter was very kind, but he had the responsibility over the floor by himself, which resulted in quite some waiting time. We ordered several dishes to share. They were well prepared but not mind blowing. The use of balsamic vinegars syrup and rocket greens mix to make up multiple dishes lacked creativity. Portions were also a bit small.   We reserved an 7:30 PM table on a Tuesday night. We really enjoyed our dining experience as Restaurant Raiz. Upon arrival we were escorted two levels up to a small dining room having 4 glass doors looking out onto the street. Our party of 2 was given a four person table in the front window. The vibe was bright, clean, simple, and airy - overlooking the pedestrian street below. The service was excellent. Our server was able to help with both bottle of wine and food selections.   This restaurant was recommended by our hotel and it did not disappoint. We booked online an hour or so before going. We were warmly greeted by the host and showed to our table on the third floor by the window with great views over the square below. On our way up we had the opportunity to say hello to the chef as the open kitchen and pass is on the first floor. We had 3 starters, octopus salad, croquettes and scallops gratin which were delicious, immaculately presented and served expertly by our super friendly and efficient waiter. We shared cod Raiz for our main course, served with sausage and pepper potatoes, very delicious indeed and also immaculately presented.   Here’s the deal. I got food poisoning because the lamb was very undercooked. My fault I didn’t say anything. But honestly the dish wasn’t that tasty. Both the octopus and lamb dish was missing seasoning or nice paired sauce. The vegetables on the side were like steamed and thrown on the side. I think the sides were the same on both dishes. I wish the excessive salt from the mushroom gratin was used on the main dishes? The octopus was insanely larger and very difficult to finish. The waiter asked if I wanted to finish the meals, I kindly said “no.” I lied and said I was full. He was so nice, I couldn’t tell him. I think he got overwhelmed when tables started to rush in. So we never heard from him besides dropping off a QR code on a laminated piece of paper with 10 cocktails, and our bill. They have a real cool building setup with multiple stories, vintage decor, and the view is awesome. I feel bad they have all that construction outside the door. I obviously won’t go back.   Don't be fooled by the high rating the restaurant has. The place was sadly nothing but mediocre. If you get a table by the window the view is nice. However at least during our visit in June there was construction work going on in front of the restaurant. The ceviche was quite bland. We also ordered bread with the starter but it arrived after we were finished with the starter. The cod with bread crumbs and honey was good, but the acorda didn't taste like much. The plates are quite artistically presented with lots of ingredients, though overall portions are not huge - but wow those ingredients really work well together!   Victim to the construction work blocking the whole front of the restaurant, the atmosphere is off to the slow start. The server was hospital and cheerful. The food was mostly very good. The salt cod was far better than another one that I had the night before at an upscale restaurant. The vegetable sides were remarkably delicious. The ox tail croquette, unfortunately, was a disaster. The piece of lard inside was not melted into the meat but rather remained as a disgusting piece of solid fat. The croquette was also not evenly heated, with one side being too hot while the other side being plain cold, a strange mistake considering the small size and roundness of the croquette.   Delicious meal in a wonderful and cosy atmosphere. The restaurant is located in an entire building, so it is divided into several dining rooms, one on each floor. The rooms were nicely decorated.   This restaurant was recommended to us otherwise we wouldn't be able to find it, as it is behind big metro construction and it is not easy accesible. We made a booking and we were taken to the third floor without asking if we were happy to climb all the way up :( (the first and second floor were practically empty). We ordered what it seemed to be a taste of olive's tapenade, an starter: beef tail (good flavour) and two mains: octopus and veal good presentation on both, but we didn't experienced the "wow" note on any of it.   Walked in for four of us on a weekday night after a long wine tour day. Service was reasonable but the food wasn’t inspiring. I felt the octopus, apparently their most popular item, was way under seasoned. Out of the 5 octopus dishes I had during my trip, this sits on the lower end for sure. Scallop dish and the croquettes were pretty tasty. Not the worst but in retrospect would have preferred an opportunity to eat elsewhere with the limited meals in a food haven like Portugal.   Unfriendly service. We came 5 min after the restaurant had opened for dinner with a reservation. It was almost empty, but the hostess gave us hard time about seating, when we didn’t want to seat under the blasting loudspeaker. The food was mediocre. We ordered caramelized goat cheese , which was actually cold goat cheese covered a thick layer of caramel. It was difficult to break and goat cheese had very strong taste, almost like blue cheese.   Following all the good reviews that I read about the place, I decided to book here for dinner on my last night in Porto. The staff is friendly and welcoming. I have the scallop au gratin as a starter. It was delicious and flavoursome! I followed with the traditional octopus which was exquisite and I finished with the waitress recommendation - the lava cake. I definitely recommend this dessert too.   This restaurant is very quaint, nestled in the heart of city. There are multiple stories of seating (including an English speaking story) that offer great views of the main street. One caveat to note is that there is a lot of scaffolding and construction going on outside of the restaurant. The food was delicious and very filling. I got the stuffed portobello mushrooms which was delightful and the salted con which was decadent. The only complaint I would have about this place is that the service was quite slow. We sat down at 8 PM and got served around 9:30 PM, but overall it was a really nice experience and we were able to walk around and listen to some late night street performers afterwards. Waiting times between starter and main dish was 40 minutes Food: gratinated scallop was nicely elaborated and recommendable from the menu; salad was fresh, bacalao was ok, but please do avoid the monkfish - $17,50 for two small pieces of deepfried fish and undercooked potato salad is not adequate.   Service is so slow!!! Sunday night and we have waited 1 hour and 40 mins for our food and still waiting.... They gave us some free bread to try and make up for it but please just bring my meal!   I popped in for a late small dinner and glass of wine and this spot is so, so lovely. I chose the asparagus wrapped in ham, and the sausage with cabbage and quail egg. Both were just perfect, and I ate every bite. I had the house red which was moderately full bodied, dry, and enjoyable. Lastly, the chocolate mousse was delicious, well presented, and had a magical ginger foam accompaniment. It was a touch heavy, more of a ganache than mousse, bit still delicious.   Music is awful but the atmosphere and feel and decor is lovely... but the food is absolutely amazing. Would highly recommend anything octupus or the pork tenderloin.   Amazing experience in the candlelight. We've never expected this tiny place to have three more floors of small climatic rooms with tables.   Returned here after an amazing food experience two years ago and it did not disappoint this time round. Advisable to book in advance however they did seem to take a couple of walk ins during the time we were there. Reasonably priced food and wine and with the quality of both excellent. I would recommend the Octopus Ceviche and Scallop Gratin tapas style dishes or if one main plate is enough you can't go wrong with the salt baked cod. If you can squeeze in desert we ordered one of everything and couldn't pick a favourite so definitely a must if you have a room.   After having had a quite stressful experience to get into nearby, highly rated, restaurants for dinner we went looking for somewhere that looked chilled. That's precisely what we got in Raiz.   Yes I know, I seem to give out 4/5 stars to just about anyone. (for the ones I don’t like I just don’t post about them): This place was awesome, we ordered 3 appetizers a one main and we shared. It was so good! Our server was awesome and guided us to amazing selections. We ordered the octopus ceviche, the scallop augratin, the goat cheese with port wine reduction. For our main we had the pork kebab. All I can say is I had to unbutton my pants on the way home. I would definitely go back.   This is a fantastic spot. Three or four floors of dining but the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful and the Portuguese cuisine is delicious. We brought a large party including several toddlers and they accommodated us very well. They weren't put off by the chaos that our children created and we appreciated the hospitality.   My husband and I walked into Raiz on Valentine's Day without a reservation. They were very accommodating and nice and gave my husband a flower to give me. They also presented us with a folded and wax sealed paper that contained an excerpt from Romeo and Juliet. They truly went all out to make it romantic. The restaurant is cozy and inviting with multiple floors. We were sat on the 2nd floor by the window and the waitress spoke to us in English and the next table in French. (She is a law student and speaks 5 languages!) She helped us select our appetizers and dinners and even cautioned that it might be too much food (so we reduced by 1). Everything was truly delicious and unusual. My husband tried the salt cod with honey and it was a beautiful, copious and delightful plate. I tried the lamb which although not traditional Portuguese (per our waitress) was the best I've had. The chocolate desert with caramel foam was an amazing ending. The gentleman who brought the food was also very genuinely nice and warm. Overall a wonderful experience at a very reasonable price. Worth every penny! Tudo estava realmente delicioso e incomum. O meu marido provou o bacalhau com mel e ficou um prato lindo, farto e delicioso. Provei o borrego que embora não seja tradicional português (segundo a nossa empregada) foi o melhor que já comi. A sobremesa de chocolate com espuma de caramelo foi um final incrível. O cavalheiro que trouxe a comida também foi muito genuinamente simpático e caloroso. No geral, uma experiência maravilhosa a um preço muito razoável. Vale cada centavo!

  This is a very cool and quirky looking restaurant and the menu sounds lovely. The food is tasty and inventive. It is slightly overpriced though, considering I did not really feel like there was something so special about it that would justify the prices. The staff is nice and very welcoming.   Turns out to be exactly what it looks like: cosy, quiet and good We happened to pass by and liked the image of the 2 small candle lit tables placed in the side Windows next to the entrance, and the soft lights of the inside. The menu looked fairly straight forward with slight twist on each item. That is exactly what we got, cosy ambience, good quiet and efficient service, lovely food , well presented and especiallynhealthy as the veal and the black pork we ordered are from free range animals.   Amazing experience! Beautiful and cosy restaurant divided over three floors in a historic building.   Nice trendy place, renovated old building, careful with the fact the restaurant is very vertical, lots of floors... Ambience is cozy and low lights, good for intimate conversation, quiet. Food is nicely presented and well cooked. Staff is nice, fair pricing.   Everything was very good. The environment and staff was all good. The food is very good as well. Start with a fried cod and baked bread with sausages and fried eggs.   Amazing place. Gorgeous views from the upper floors - ask to sit near the window if possible! We showed up around 8:30pm on a Tuesday evening and had no problem getting in. Definitely the "scallop at gratin" and "barrosa meat burger" appetizers - they were particularly amazing! The Brie appetizer was okay, but combined with the scallop filler and bread from the burger was absolutely fabulous. The sangria was good, too. Overall fantastic experience!   Raiz is definitely a nice place. It has three floors (although the top floor doesn't have lighting - which can be nice/bad depending on your mood). The staff are polite and easy to interact with. Regarding the food, my experience was 'tappas-based' although there are main dishes. We had several 'tappas' dishes and I thought all of them were pretty good.
