  What a pleasant experience! Rio’s really combines the feeling of fine dining in an approachable atmosphere. Everything we tasted was amazing. Sangria is fabulous. I highly recommend the salmon Wellington and the croquettes. The service was some of the best service I’ve ever had anywhere, they were so attentive. It is a tapas place of course, but if you don’t want to break the bank, 4-5 dishes is enough. I wasn’t overly full because they’re small.   Great selection of tapas to suit any appetite. Staff were very friendly and offered recommendations to us for how much to order and information about the dishes. The food and atmosphere was great, also booking through Google maps was very easy. We had four dishes of tapas and dessert. Would come back again to try the other dishes.   It’s a very nice tapas restaurant, it’s small and busy, reservation recommended. Waiter and waitress are very polite and attentive, they provide very good hospitality. I like the fried octopus and fried shrimps, while the woodpecker beef I found it very fat, I would prefer lean meat. The Alheira puff pastry is disappointing, I thought it was like a crispy crust pastry sort of thing , but turn out it’s not (can refer to my photo), I should have ordered the goat cheese puff pastry instead. Desserts are very delicious, the restaurant gave us two honey liqueur on the house which are very kind of them. Overall it was a wonderful dining experience, I would recommend this restaurant.   It looked very promising, nice decor, nice Brazilian waiter. It's called a tapas bar, so we ordered 5 plates for the 3 of us. The plates came one-by-one which is not what I was expecting from tapas.   We spent 3 nights in Porto and ate at Rio’s for 2 of those nights. Food and presentation were excellent and all of the staff were so friendly and helpful! They made recommendations based on our preferences for food and wine which we followed and were so happy we did. I will definitely recommend Rio’s to our friends who are planning to visit Porto.   First evening of our city trip to Porto. We found this gem near our Hotel. A small cosy restaurant with great service and lovely food. We reserved a couple hours up front and were welcomed at 7Pm by friendly staff. Suggested to take 4-5 plates for two person. We loved the salmon ceviche. The beef tartare was wonderful. Than we also had the peppers, ribs and the fried shrimp which we thought were the more usual. We had the white sangria (1L !) and most of all we had a lovely evening. Thanks!   No idea what’s different for other folks that this place got 4.7 rating. The “welcome” is really pushy and we felt forced to stay. The service is a disaster - yes, there is a lot of service, and requests are done quickly and easily, but the basic expectations like extra napkins for finger food (or like a wet towel?), salt, pepper, basic sauce - it was missing. No, pouring glasses is not “service”, especially at this price point. The food options are varied, and presentation is nice, but the taste is really bland. The biggest disappointment were the ribs - they were definitely undercooked and chewy. They also took a lot of time. Lack of local wines by the glass is extremely disappointing. And the bottles are extremely overpriced. The dining hall is super loud, we couldn’t talk to each other without shouting. All in all, it’s like an AI impression of high end tapas bar, but some things are missing like - nice quiet ambience - attentive (not overbearing) service - tasty and well done food - wines by the glass - decent price/performance Wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone, unfortunately.   First let me say, I think these reviews are inflated by the restaurant. The restaurant wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good either. Lots of fried food and some just bland while others were complete misses (salad with no dressing or mixed eggs on fries). Wine was reasonably priced.   I was slightly surprised that this place had a 4.7 rating and $$ price point. What we liked: The atmosphere, service and food were all fine. The cocktails were great. Staff were friendly and welcoming. We easily got a table after 9pm without prior booking. Where there could be improvement in our opinion: - it would be great if some local reasonably priced Portuguese wines were offered here by the glass - the tapas were fine but very touristy finger food. The prices felt aimed at tourists It's an alright place but definitely not top of our list for Porto restaurants.   This place was an amazing stop on our food journey in Porto! Everything was delicious and with great presentation. The hosts were attentive but not too much.   It was an incredibly sad experience. From the moment we arrived, it was all about getting our money. Starters were served at €3 per person without us being asked, there was a fixed person fee of €2.5 and when we had to pay they tried to insert an additional payment fee of 5% of the bill and write on the bill that we had accepted it. (see picture) The food itself was average. We ordered a cheese platter, which was served without mention of the contents and without bread. When we asked for bread, this was put on the bill. The service started fine, but when we didn't choose the waiter's recommendation the level dropped a lot and we had to go up and ask for a bill ourselves when we were done. We came across this place which they said they were also booked up and had no room for waitlist or reservations until closing . We walked away disappointed and then 5min later looked to book a reso there and were able to so we went back awkwardly as we were turned away and were seated shortly after…we saw a few empty tables throughout the night and questioned why they turned us away saying the were fully booked. Anyways we ended up ordering some food and a pitcher of sangria and it was all very tasty. I had the octopus salad which I failed to take a picture of and my friends ordered the crispy shrimp and chicken wings which they enjoyed throughly and my salad was tasty as well. Our sangria was delicious too. I do recommend this place but I suggest you make a reservation to avoid any awkwardness and complications. The interior is also very aesthetically pleasing it’s a nice vibe.   It was past 21.00 in the evening and we dropped by this place without reservation. Although I understand that it might be busy at this time, but we were treated very rudely, with the waiter proclaiming: "What did you expect - we are THE BEST tapas bar in Porto!". We left hungry and annoyed after such a bold statement. Needless to say, just around the corner we find a real gem called "Trama" who served the best tapas we ever tried, with super friendly stuff, who assisted us with finding a table even though it was a busy evening.   This is a fantastic restaurant. My buddy and I went here twice within three days. The portions are nice (2/person if not terribly hungry or 2.5 if you are). The ribs are a highlight. The crispy shrimp and codfish croquettes are also so nice and refreshing. Even I drank the white sangria (and I don’t drink alcohol AT ALL). The owner is the maitre d and host.   I was very disappointed. I did a lot of research to find a good restaurant for our trip and booked ahead of time. My expectations were high considering the reviews. We ordered 3 tapas, but just received one. We waited an hour or so expecting the other ones, but they never came. We were trying to be patient knowing that we are American and used to a different culture, but the items we ordered didn't come after even an hour. We ordered something else and it came pretty quickly, which was strange. That dish (salmon and shrimp) was good, so I'm giving a star for that. After being there two hours, we got tired of waiting, and just decided to ask for the check so that we could leave and maybe go somewhere else for food. We saw that the two items that we didn't receive were on there. The waiter fixed the check for us, but it was still a disappointing experience considering the high reviews this place has as well as the price.   I was alone and when I asked the waiter how large are the plates he said small and recommended I take four. However they’re all enough for two people so to be honest a single person only needs two. On the whole the food was good and seemed to be a mix of Asian and Portuguese. When paying the bill it was disappointing to be asked if “would you like to leave service?” This is Portugal and we don’t do that here.   I loved everything about this place; the food, the service and the ambiance overall, all perfect. We tried different tapas options and all were well executed, I must say especially the octopus salad, nothing as I expected but it was amazing! Also great wine options are available, waiters are super attentive and the chefs, just right there cooking almost in front of you, are also great and attentive.   It was an OK experience. The staff were friendly and the food was fine. We couldn't quite figure out what the theme of the place/food was. High end style service (using pincers to serve us napkins) instead of chilled tapas vibes, and lots of American style dishes. A lot of the food relied on either being deep friend or smothered in sauce to make it tasty. The presentation of the food was smart, but fresh and delicate flavours were lacking. Also quite pricey- we got the salmon and prawn parcel which had just 4 prawns and a few small chunks of salmon for €14.   Rio’s is a very popular spot so it’s unlikely you’ll get in without a reservation. We didn’t get in on our first night but managed to get a reservation on our second night. The restaurant is really lovely inside and the staff are super friendly. They really accommodated our young kids. For me the food is a cross between tapas and American bar snacks. The more traditional dishes, like the Rojões, stood out for me whereas the Fried Octopus was like a fried bar snack that you could get anywhere that didn’t let the main ingredient shine. Octopus this good should be front and centre! It was tasty and tender but fell short of what it could be. Similar with the Pork Ribs. They were like good pub or bar ribs but nothing special. The Chicken Strips were perfect for the kids and went down a treat with fries. Wine selection was good (nod to the waiter for his suggestions) and service was impeccable. My only other gripe was the Glade Plug In Air Fresheners that were plugged in around the restaurant. At times quite overwhelming and not necessarily what you want with your dining experience. Certainly worth a visit when in Porto but perhaps lean more towards to the traditional dishes when ordering. Minha única outra reclamação foram os purificadores de ar Glade Plug In que estavam conectados ao redor do restaurante. Às vezes, bastante opressor e não necessariamente o que você deseja com sua experiência gastronômica.   Definitely book in advance. The food was good and the staff were relatively attentive. I was expecting a bit more when it came to the food which was pleasant but not out of this world.   Overall, I had a pleasant experience. The atmosphere is nice and the restaurant is beautifully decorated. Our waitress was really lovely but we waited almost an hour for the first set of tapas arrived. This was the first disappointing thing. Sadly, most of the dishes were trying to do too much without the execution and refinement. The ceviche was nice, the breaded octopus felt like a waste of the ingredient, the goats cheese parcel okay, nice juicy ribs but very American BBQ style which didn’t fit with the vibe, the puff balls with foie gras and steak was bizarre. The foie gras was completely overshadowed by the cream cheese which is unacceptable as it’s got such a delicate and decadent flavour!   Refused to serve us even though the restaurant was 2/3 empty. Said it was fully booked (likely a lie because it was 2PM, who booked at 2??). Can just flat out say they required a reservation instead. Anyhow silly rule cos it's a touristy town and nobody knows what time they will be ready for lunch/dinner. The establishment is not that fancy anyway. Hope the business thrives with this appalling lack of service/refusal to work.   We had dinner on a Wednesday night around 9.30PM and we got a table right away. The staff was very friendly and we sat outside the back yard. We received some starters without ordering them (bread and four different dips). We had four Tapas, which were very tasty and I liked that they would pour out of the bottle at your table for a glass of wine. I did not like the fact, that they would charge you 2,5€ per person for the starter although you did not order it. Payment with card was possible!
