  It was a strange version of sushi mostly fried and not very good. I have had better from the supermarket. The place is gorgeous, beautiful tiles, really lovely.   This place is beautifully decorated and the staff/service was amazing! Even the presentation of the food was 5⭐️ But, and it's a big 'but', the food was very bland. We were so surprised by this. I mean, Sushimia tastes better and it's an all you can eat menu.   We had dinner with another couple here for the first time on a Sunday night. They made a reservation, so I'm not sure, if they are recommended or required. The atmosphere is absolutely stunning! Each room is decorated a little bit differently and is beautiful! We ate at the very top floor on the porch. We were not called at all even though the porch is closed off and is glass. We ordered the XL and L platters for the four of us to share and yakisoba veggie noodles. Not only were the sushi and noodles delicious, the presentation was out of this world! The water on the dry ice was a very cool feature. For dessert, we got the port wine with chocolate, two of the ovos molos ice cream and one banana dessert. They are very educated on gluten-free options which we appreciated . We had the XL and L platters, noodles, 3 small bottles of hot saki, 4 waters and 4 desserts for about 190€. Highly recommend!   We booked a table for 8 people on a Sunday evening. We ordered pretty quickly, the service was okay, but not great, they were polite sure, but it was always missing something, one cup was missing for the water, then they came with a cup of lemonade instead of a jar, afterwards there was a spoon missing, oh well.. the appetizers came pretty quick and it was actually pretty good, few quantities but good nonetheless good flavors. For the main menu fusion mix, nigiri mix and a couple of makis, a waiter appeared after 40 minutes asking if we wanted te be served because there was already a couple of dishes ready but the main fusion mix was not.. when everything came we ate what seemed like food for 4 people.. yes we left the table still a bit hungry.. and we ended up paying around 60 euros each. Overall taste is good, Service is a bit lacking, they just need to pay more attention, Quantities very few for the price that we are paying.   Have been to Subenshi numerous times with my wife and/or friends, and every time it is outstanding. The location, the view, the atmosphere and, above all, the quality of the food and its ingredients. A special shout out to Patricia who took care of us this last time we were there, and she was of the utmost politeness, respect and diligence one could expect. Patricia just made the lunch experience even better. Definitely strongly recommend this restaurant and will continue visiting.   In my opinion there are 4 or 5 other sushi places that I woukd go to in Porto instead if here especially for the price....couldn't taste 1 single component in any of the sushi pieces.   Confused as to why this place has so many good reviews. The building is beautiful and the service is good, but the food is gross. The rice is super sweet - I know sushi rice usually has a tiny bit of sugar in it, but this was sickly sweet. The miso came out so salty I couldn’t eat it and had to send it back.   we ordered from subenshi through ubereats the first night we arrived in porto. can’t really speak for the service or atmosphere of the restaurant but our order arrived impeccably packaged, with all the items including sauces, wasabi and ginger individually packed and sealed. we had the menu kaishi xl which included a delicious assortment of fresh sushi, sashimi and nigiri. the ebi yakisoba was also done very well. a little pricier than other sushi options but definitely worth it for the details and quality.   Modern sushi restaurant with a mix of traditional and more innovative, creative and fusion sushi dishes. As we went with friends, we tried the sharing platters of both types. The L portions come with 4 pieces each. So great for a group of 4. We also tried the deep fried shrimp which was just incredible. The cocktails too were amazing with some homemade ingredients like fresh coconut mash for the rum and more. We were looked after by Patricia, our waitress, who was incredibly polite, clear in her explanations and just very attentive. Quick tip, there is a black button in the table which you can use to call your waiter. Very cool. Price wise, given it was sushi and cocktails, we were incredibly pleased. We paid €30 per person. Deserts too were interesting and recommended. The deco and ambience is a mix of traditional like tiles, and modernity like tattooed characters in the tiles.   We ordered a sushi set. It was really tasty. However, I gotta say the miso soup with salmon was incredible, out of this world. Good wine. Good service. We also didn't have a reservation, but ended up sitting on the third floor with a nice view. Great overall experience. The only minus is that the sushi sets didn't say what kind of fish was in the sushi.   My honest overall review of this place: F for Food. Ambiance and presentation: Nice! However, I think this place stresses too much on the presentation and the ambiance of the restaurant that it loses touch with the most important thing which is the FOOD itself! The food itself: Overhyped and overpriced and way over seasoned with very tiny pieces. You don’t truly enjoy and feel the sushi that you are eating because it’s covered too much by all this unnecessary spices and seasoning (it’s way overdone) However, with that said, they have excellent sweet staff and very kind waiters! The staff is very efficient and very helpful and professional. The food is an experience in it's own right, superb presentation, excellent portion sizes and absolutely delicious.   Surprisingly good and varied sushi. The selections of the sashimi sampler included toro and yellowtail. Sadly, the first waiter didn't even know what he was serving.   I highly recommend this sushi place in Porto! While I don’t believe the sushi served was made in a traditional style, it was delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful, and some spoke English. Service was fast, and we were able to walk in and get a table without a booking (10 min wait for a table but that was no worry for us). We had both veg and chicken gyozas, sushi platter and a vegan platter all of which were outstanding in terms of taste and quality of food. Even the simple dish of Cucumber Salad was delicious.   This was surprisingly quite an amazing experience in an unforgettable restaurant. The decor and atmosphere is uniquely Asian fusion. It is a perfect blend of old world classic Portuguese architecture with Japanese and Asian touches. I've never seen anything like this. The service is high tech with all of the servers wearing headsets so the service is quite efficient. Also the servers are quite nice and speak great English. The food is quite good. The tempura scallops were a highlight as we're the prawns starter. The sushi is quite good, maybe not the best I've had in Porto but quite good. The pickled ginger and pickled cucumber were as good as Japan. We will definitely be back, especially since we live close by.   Came here for dinner. Had shrimp salad, prawn tempura, and mixed sashimi and sushi plates(one fusion one traditional) and miso soup. Miso soup was okay, prawn tempura? It’s coated by almond, not really my kinda thing. Sushi and sashimi, can’t really tell which one is fusion which one is traditional since either of them seem normal to me. Sashimi were standard, can’t say it’s not fresh but fish quality(texture) wasn’t amazing. Sushi rolls’ taste are too complicated. Myself, I didn’t eat much. Let’s put it in this way, if you are expecting some traditional sushi then this is not a place for you, but if you want some twist and something interesting then give it a shot.   This place is amazing. The interior is beautiful, the staff is very nice and the food is delicious. They understand about dietary restrictions and were able to assure me that I'm safe there when I told them I'm celiac and lactose intolerant. They showed me which parts of the menu I could eat and asked questions about my intolerance. They didn't seem to understand what celiac is exactly but they knew about cross contamination and assured me there would be no issue with that. They also have gluten-free soy sauce.   Really liked this restaurant. We came for lunch on our wedding anniversary with our baby girl. The restaurant has beautifully decorated rooms with different azulejos, it feels like being in an old Portuguese palacete. The staff (very professional and attentive) reserved us a table in one of the rooms, by the window (we had the room all to ourselves) and provided a baby chair. We ordered the executive lunch menu (traditional Japanese) which includes 1starter (almond pan fried prawns or salmon miso soup - both delicious) and 15 sushi pieces per person. The food was very good, fresh and well presented. We bill was very fair price (a bit less than 20€ each including a non-alcoholic drink). I totally recommend it, we'll be back.   Highly esthetic and efficient place. Food was mosly good although an improvisation on a japanese food which was not better than the original. The miso soup was alarmingly salty and the tempura crust was cranchy and too thick instead of being soft and light. But all in all nice experience.   The sushi was delicious, but a lot of mistakes. I let the waiter know that we don’t eat raw fish and he offered us one of the menus with a different set of sushi, then we got a gunkan with raw tuna, rolls with raw salmon and sashimi.. Then we ordered seared nigiri with salmon and the waiter gave us nigiri with just raw salmon, then she went back and fixed it. We also ordered a drink and waited for it for 20 minutes, then another waiter told us that the order was not made.   Don’t get confused for my 4 stars, the fusion sushi is great, the prawns (with almonds) are delicious, the sangria amazing, and the waitresses have attention to details, as when should approach and to explain the food options. The building is beautiful and well decorated, but the only reason that does not get higher number of stars is the apparent lack of wheelchair accessibility (even for the ground floor), which makes all the beautiful experience to be partially unavailable to anyone that cannot climb stairs (you can still ask for take-away).   If you are after good Japanese food don't go there. We had already had a really good Japanese dinner the previous night, so chose to have just a soba and breaded chicken dish here. Not sure if we would have had a better experience with the sushi, but I am dubious after what we were served. When the waitress asked if everything had been OK, I did say that actually it wasn't good at all, she was getting stressed and went on a search for a manager. They didn't show though, and we had to get on. It seems to be a common thread also with the online comments , where the restaurant only responds to positive reviews. Hey ho, they seem to be doing well enough with the great location, fancy setting and high customer volume to not bother with the doubters...   I had my lunch at Subenshi and picked the Kaishi L meal. I have to say that i was not impressed with the selection of sushi on the plate. The rice was bland and the tuna was cooked at the edges - i was hoping for some raw high quality tuna. There were literally 2 caviar eggs on the sushi and lots of white radish stuffed on the plate.   I've made an order through Please (delivery service), and i got a wrong order delivered to my address. When I noticed the error, I quickly called Please to explain the situation and they said they would get in touch with the restaurant to understand what happened. The following day, Please called me to explain that the restaurant gave a wrong order to the guy that delivered it to my home, which by the way, was substantially cheaper. Please said that the restaurant should get in contact with me quickly to explain what happened and maybe offer some compensation, but they never did. Sushi was good, but this behaviour is a big let down in a place with such good reviews.   I absolutely loved this restaurant. The food was fantastic, the service was very friendly, and the building is really interesting on each floor.   Probably one of the best Sushi restaurants we've been to. We spent just over 70 euro, which included marinated sashimi, salmon ceviche, 3 different types of Sushi rolls, and I believe two other dishes I don't know the names of. Straight up, this is definitely higher priced restaurant, but between the awesome english speaking staff and the fresh fish, along with taste, it was worth the money to us. We gorged, very heavily! Again, everything seemed fresh, in the rolls themselves, rice to fish to vegetable ratio was pretty spot on, they arent trying to fill you with just rice. This was recommend by one of the locals and I am truly glad we made a stop here, it made our last night in Porto amazing!   I guess they won my heart. The place is just amazing in the center of Porto! I went for a lunch meal and asked for the executive menu, did not disappoint! The sushi was amazing and the shrimps where delicious, have to come back and try. To top it all we where very well received and they have a good service.   This sushi restaurant is more a higher price scale than average. Generally all prices start at 4-5€ for entries, soups and packs of 4 units rolls. The quality is also high though. The presentation of the dishes, service and comfort are on top.   Really good sushi, either traditional or fusion style. We can totally recommend the fusion menu. Absolutely delicious. The starters and desserts have been delicious as well.   Very beautiful and renewn building. We had dinner at the balcony on the 3rd and last floor, with amazing views. Staff was friendly and professional. Sushi was surprisingly better than expected, very very good! Strongly recommend the almond coated prawns as an appetizer. Price was alright overall. 5/5.   Amidst the sea of sushi restaurants in Porto, this brand new place is a marvelous pearl! One of the best sushi I've had in my life that made me overlook its pricey tag. It gives a new twist to traditional sushi resulting in really cool delicious pieces. Its very cosy and well decorated, the walls are covered with really cool artistic tiles with fish/sea motives. The dining rooms are full of natural light and one of them has a table in front of a balconie with a stuning view to the garden outside that is simply beautiful.   One of the greatest sushi places I've ever been to! When I arrived I was promptly asked if I had a reservation, in this case I didn't have, but there was free tables, so I was guided to the upper floor. When getting there I was welcomed by one of the waiters, kindly asking if I wanted to hang my jacket. In short, the service was great! But it was when the food arrived that I was truly amazed! It was delicious, and the waiter kindly explained everything in terms of what each sushi piece was.
