  Our performance on Saturday night was interesting but relatively monotonous. Melancholic music for 1 full hour and no real highlights or big emotions in the music itself. As I can't understand Portuguese the highlights in the music are important. I know from other Fado concerts in this establishment and it seems they are better or more dynamic.   The fado itself is really great! I booked this opportunity because I wanted to hear some fado, but I wasn’t sure of where to go. I was a little annoyed at the fact that I was the first person there, but was sat in the back because I was a single person. While others were sat upfront because they were with a pair or a group. I did not really like the wine but that’s a preference. I’m sure it’s very possible to hear Fado at a local restaurant and not have to pay the fee, but pay for dinner. Only Portuguese was spoken during the introduction and explanation session and audience was mainly local looking to appreciate the purest form of fado.   The music was beautiful, the singers voices were top notch, the mandolin and guitar player played expertly. My biggest issue was the vocalists and the musicians did not make eye contact with the audience. It sounds like a trite complaint. And maybe it is traditional with Fado. But Fado is extremely emotional. And having a singer close his eyes the entire time squashes the emotion. I found it difficult to watch them perform as I sought a connection with them and the music they were presenting to us. It was a very weird feeling, juxtaposed emotions, raw, bare, painful, sad but also, stay away and keep your distance. same applies to the musicians. I don't feel like any of the performers have to look into my eyes but just seeing their eyes would make a huge difference. also, one star less because if you're on the back row, you cannot see well. I almost never saw the mandolin at all and sometimes the singers face was blocked. it is not the best set up for a performance. need elevated back row or a more elevated stage for the back row. We were not impressed and I would not recommend Ideal Clube de Fado as the performance was way below its price.   Wonderful experience. As a Portuguese accompanying foreign friends was not sure what to expect. However I was pleasantly surprised by the fado experience. I can vouch for the highly skilled musicians and unpretentious performance where you could engage with the musicians and ask questions to know more about fado. The staff were also wonderful going out of their way when we asked for a restaurant recommendation (unfortunately I did not ask for her name). Well done. Recommended!   When in Portugal, you must try Fado music and you might as well pick the top rated place. We did this very thing, landed up here and really loved the performances and port wine to boot. There were also no bad places to sit in the warm and intimate space. I recommend this place for anyone looking for an authentic fado experience with passionate singers and instrumentalists.   This was an outstanding experience, to say the least. If you are looking for an AUTHENTIC Fado concert, in the traditional style, with truly talented musicians and singers, you have come to the right place. This is a club to truly learn about and appreciate Fado as an art. Not a tourist trap, but also not a bar and not a restaurant. Have dinner before or after the show, and come to experience the music without any distractions. My two cents: leave your phone in your pocket. No need to record for instagram or tiktok. This is a once in a lifetime experience and you should live it in the moment. I would also suggest the organizers prohibit phones/recording altogether. It is very annoying to be enjoying a timeless music in the presence of a great singer, only to have it interrupted by the person in front of you pulling out their phone to record right in front of your face and ruining the experience. Also the place is not ideal for Fado, really you can hear and see the cars passing by, making the whole event full of interruptions.   Wow! This was outstanding. I think this place is run by artists/musicians, and they are sincere about explaining and sharing the history of fado and their love of it, all in an intimate venue. I'm so happy I went here for my first fado experience, rather than some overpriced, commercial restaurant/club. Bonus: they offer you a glass of port (or bottled water for the non-drinkers). If you book online, you save a Euro from what the price would be at the door. Btw, there were no tickets left at the door the performance I was at, so maybe book ahead of time anyways if you want to experience this! Highly, highly recommended.   What an honour to be able to listen to some fantastic traditional Portugese singing and music. A cosy comfortable venue, easy to locate. 2 great musicians and 2 wonderful singers all full of passion for their music. I wish I had gone earlier to look at the posters etc on the wall and possibly speak to the people involved. Must not forget the young lady on the door as she was friendly and helpful.   This was my first time at "Ideal Club de Fado", and I had a great experience through and through. My friends and I wanted to go to a fado performance to learn more about the Portuguese culture, and this club looked the most inviting and it was easy to find. The tickets were quite cheap as well and since we are students, we very much appreciated that. Aside from the fact that the club looked like it was closed when we arrived there, we were welcomed in very kindly and were even offered a free glass of very tasty port wine. The show was about an hour long, with one man playing the Portuguese guitar, one man singing and playing classic guitar, and a woman singing most of the evening. They were are very nice and explained what the song they were about to sing was about, all in English of course, because they want to share the art and beauty of fado with people all around the world.   When searching for a traditional Fado night the best suggestion I found was this one, Ideal Club de Fado. The original price for under 26 years old was 17€ but when buying it online we received a discount, so it ended up costing 14€ per person. Due to traffic, we arrived with a 5min delay and sadly missed the beginning of the show but were kindly welcomed and offered a free glass of port wine. It is a very small location which on the outside looked closed but had a very cozy and intimate atmosphere on the inside. When we arrived a lady was signing, a man was playing the Portuguese guitar and another young man playing the classic guitar. One could notice that the lady sang with a lot of passion and emotion. She took small breaks in between and during those moments the young man took over the signing. We were able to experience different types of Fado which was interesting. Furthermore, all the explanations were in English. It was an amazing experience, and the wine was delicious.   I had a lovely experience at the “Ideal Clube de Fado”. It was the first time I went to a fado performance. There were three artists present; a woman who sang, a man who played guitar and sang, and another man who played the Portuguese guitar. The building looks from the outside a bit uninviting however, when you enter you immediately get a feeling of cosiness. The walls are decorated with frames with fado music and posters. The acoustics inside the building are fantastic. In my opinion they are quite inclusive, since the artists explain everything in English. They told us that they love to make people acquainted with fado, especially people who are not Portuguese. The ticket for students was only €14 with a glass of port wine included.   We went twice, and both times, we had an excellent experience. The musicians (both times there were three: a female vocalist, a Portuguese-guitar player, and a classical guitar player (who also sang - Francisco both times)). It took me back to when I was a child and my Portuguese father would listen to Fado and drink a small glass of port wine and reminisced with his fellow Portuguese friends.   Incredible experience! A fantastic venue, seating only 20 or so people, which allows for an intimate and personal musical experience. The music was just so beautiful, the musicians so talented. We felt we had a truly Portuguese experience. Thank you for sharing your beautiful musical traditions and its history with us. Would highly recommend Ideal Clube de Fado to anyone visiting Porto.   This was one of the highlights of my visit to Porto. The club was very easy to communicate with, helped me financially by offering a discount, and was aesthetically beautiful and easy to find.   Pettiness and beautiful music, wonderful and passionate musician and singers, make a perfect night! An entitled man yelled out twice in Spanish for them to speak "en Español o que?" And other things. Rather than ask politiely for them explain in Spanish too, he threatened to ruin the whole night After, the only Spanish I heard was to say thank you for your silence from the singers. It was satisfying to see them standing up for themselves while still being polite. By the way I speak enough Portuguese to say I don't speak it and say thank you/etc, but I do speak English and Spanish.   The evening at the Ideal Clube de Fado was the highlight of our journey in Porto. I wasn’t familiar with Fado music. Two friends individually mentioned about listening to Fado while in Portugal. I did some online research and found this venue. The experience was beyond my expectations. I love when artists genuinely sing from their heart with soul. Both of the two ladies performed that evening have incredible vocal power and skills. Even though we don’t understand Portuguese, we could feel the emotions through the music and their voices..   True artists! Their fado concert is fabulous. They play and sing with love and with all their heart. You can really feel that, even if you’re a total fado beginner.   I stumbled across this place and it felt like a hidden gem in town! The Fado singers and musicians were amazing, and each song had a particular “feeling” that it was intended to evoke. The service was also spectacular: each guest received a free glass of Port wine, and the host/musician/father of the establishment was so welcoming and kind. Under 23 also has a discount.   We bought tix online which made it very easy. We realized that the show sells out so if you arrive at the bar where the music takes place you will get turned away on a busy night. To star the show the singer explained the history of Fado and the different types of Fado. The music was beautiful and the guitarist were amazing.   Had a great night there as there was a man singing. He was so so good. The cocktail I chose, was okay. Thing I did not like was that we had to tell the waitress to clean the table and that they don't accept cards. But okay. Set in a very quirky and cosy bar, we could enjoy an introduction to the different types of Fado, with short demonstrations too, followed by 1-hour concert (that felt like a private one!) and a complimentary glass of Porto wine.   The location provided an amazing backdrop for a Fado show that really blew my mind. The musicians and the singer were obviously experienced professionals and even though I don’t speak Portuguese, I could understand every emotion. Paired with a glass of wine the ideal way to listen to Fado without needing to buy overpriced food. Also, all measures die Corona were met and I felt perfectly safe - tables were placed sparsely and even the musicians wore masks (not the singer, of course). And together with the two guitar players, they were really good. I'd love to hear them play again some time, when I come again to Porto.   What a fantastic concert; you really get to witness a unique and intimate fado experience. As others have written, don't forget to show up a little earlier for a demonstration and comprehensive insight into the various styles of fado. Really learned a lot that I did not know. The concert itself was beautiful and the musicians are brilliant; the lead singer also shares some backstory and context in between songs. Would recommend!   On 25 July we booked a Fado show in Ideal Clube de Fado. It was not just a show, it was a wonderful experience. At the beginning we were asked wether we wanted to listen to Fado songs only or if we were interested in the history of Fado also. The explanations about the instruments and the Coimbra Fado were very enlightening. The two guitar players excelled in their play and the gifted Fado singer in his voice. For us their performance could have gone on and on.... We have participated the week after in two other Fado evenings in Porto, but the performance in Ideal Clube de Fado in Coimbra was by far the best.   We stumbled upon this place by chance and since seeing fado was on our todo list and this was our last day, we gave it a go. It was a lucky find because the performance was lovely, intimate, and—dare I say?—educational. The performers have a passion for the music, for performance, and for connecting with their audience. Performances seem to be scheduled in the lull between afternoon and dinner, which is convenient for visitors because, well, what else are you going to do anyway? :) But that also means the street didn’t show many signs of life at that hour and we almost didn’t wander down that street. We’re lucky that we did. The venue is a large and quirky space that is worth a visit in itself. I highly recommend it.   I have never experienced Fado and saw many advertised to tourists, but then stumbled on Ideale Clube de Fado in a street near to where we were staying. So glad we did, for me it was the perfect introduction, with a talk and demonstration on the history and conventions of traditional Fado for those who arrive 30mins before the concert, plus the opportunity for questions. It felt very genuine and the passion of the musicians and singer for their craft was clear. All very talented!   My first experience of Fado and it was one of the highlights of my holiday in Porto. The singer was warm and friendly and took the time to explain in three different languages the emotions and feelings she was going to sing about in each song.Also the two Portuguese classical guitar players were amazing and it was wonderful to hear their solo performances.   We attended the 50 minute fado performance and we were very pleasantly surprised by the talented performers. The singer was Antonio Ferreira. He was fabulous. We enjoyed the guitars, too.   What a surprise and an amazing experience all round. We were passing the club and thought why not after the lady outside spoke to us. It wasn’t a hard sell and she was right - it was so good. The singer was really talented and one of the musicians explained a little of Fado at the end. If you haven’t heard Fado before this is a short and sweet way to experience it.   The performance was wonderful. First, the information about fado’s history and the types of fado were clear and interesting. Then, the music! We were mesmerized by all three musicians and their individual and combined performance was outstanding. The setting was intimate and we even had a chance to talk with them after.
