  This was a great place. We had wonderfull service. We got the best meat. It was to red to start with, but they managed it so well. Our steak came back as if it has been out in the kitchen continuing for a little while chewing grass in heaven. Turnips and french fries did well too. Perfect. And we had Alantego wine that was matured at the bottom at a see. Maybe it should have kept the tempretour from the see. But it was taste and bodied. Matured danish couple.   Very cool and friendly restaurant in the city centre. The food is wonderful, I had the opportunity to try different types of meat and all of them are delicious.   We had a great night here! Book ahead if possible - it's a tiny space but with a great atmosphere which has a lot to do with the owner who was great wiht everybody. Steaks were incredible (just note medium is still pretty rare for UK customers!) and the sides & desserts also excellent. Great wine selection, too.   This restaurant was beyond my expectations. My husband and I are visiting Porto for our wedding anniversary and saw this spot on TikTok (thanks Talia!). This place is incredible.. service was wonderful, ambiance is charming, and the food… THE FOOD!! The best blistered shisito peppers I’ve ever had, literally better than Nobu and the T-Bone steak I have no words. The steak was extremely flavorful and well marbled, it had an essence of rosemary that took it over the top. If you are trying to decide where to go, you absolutely have to stop in here! We were able to get a spot without reservations but after a while the restaurant started to fill up, so it may be best to call for reservations to confirm a seat.   We went here for my sister's birthday dinner on our last night in Porto. The food was delicious and my sister said these may have been the best sweet potatoes she's ever had. The service was amazing and they even surprised us with a slice of dessert with a candle! So sweet. I would absolutely visit again and would recommend to anyone visiting Porto.   One of my favorite experiences when traveling is to find a truly outstanding restaurant that provides an unforgettable experience in a new place. Bota&Bira is such a place. My wife and I shared a one kilogram ribeye that was a perfect medium rare and incredibly flavorful. The wine list was robust so whatever you like to pair with great steak will be available. We got the sweet potato and turnip greens as sides, which were excellent. The atmosphere was absolutely charming and the service from Paulo and his team was delightful. For 65 euros, my wife and I had a stellar steak, two sides, and a glass of wine each - what a bargain for one of our favorite meals we have had while traveling! Be sure to call for a reservation (which they kindly accommodated for us in English)!   Incredible restaurant with an amazing staff. We ate here two nights because the first night was such a wonderful experience. The Ribeye steak is a must. It is tender and well seasoned. We got all the sides and enjoyed them all, especially the greens. The staff is super friendly and great with kids. Our 5 and 2 year old enjoyed getting little cookies from them and also enjoyed the fries and steak. Eating here is a must and it was an experience we will not forget. They were not superexcited about having a single guest at one table during buzy hours though why creds for the service is lower. I would definitely recommend it for a couple or for a smaller group!   Amazing spot, we are from Boston/New York, this is hands down an incredible place to get a delicious well cooked steak. The service is incredible, the owner and staff were so personable caring and fun, this is a great little spot to go. The drinks and wine were top notch per the owners recommendations. For us Boston/New York people this cost us half of what we are used to at your average restaurant in the states and was a 10000 times better. We got the beef angus, sweet potatoes and the bread with the most amazing hummus. 10/10 will go again.   I’m not sure if im missing something bc i was super excited to try this place due to the raving reviews but the food was just mid, the steak wasn’t bad but def had better and there weren’t many options for sides. The service was also not the best we got greeted very late even though they saw us walk in i felt like they didn’t acknowledge us initially which was kind of weird and one of the servers with glasses he was nice and funny but def you can tell was in a rush the way he threw our desert plates to us.   The staff here was amazing, they advised us of how much we ordered to ensure the right amount was being ordered for 2 people. The croquettes were cheesy yet meaty, some of the best I have had ever. The dry age steak had a char to it, and a smoky flavour that made it irresistible. The chocolate cake was moist beyond perfection and is a must try. The icing on the top was definitely service. Other places in Porto have given us average service, but this place truly had the most amazing waiters that advised us to have to best experience here possible.   This restaurant was overrated and disappointing. Where they fell short: First of all, we weren’t told we could pick out our own steaks from the cooler as I see other people mentioning in their reviews. And their steak cuts (per lb) were more fat than actual steak, and made to be mooing when asked for “medium”, even after 3x of bringing it back out, also the prawns which were advertised as shrimp and came out with all parts attached, (including the guts), and the overall value👎🏽.   I would preface this saying that this restaurant is 100% worth visiting but please book in advance! They had a constant queue out the door, so make sure to get a reservation as it is worth it!   Must visit in Porto if you love steak! Cannot fault the food at all, the waiter was so knowledgable and friendly, a lovely guy who clearly loves his food. We ordered prawns, the ribeye sharer, sweet potato, turnip greens and banoffee pie. Would order these all again! We ordered our steak medium rare- just a slight warning, medium rare is more like what we would call ‘blue’ in the UK. I would order this again medium rare, but if you’re not used to rare steak then go for a medium!   Fantastic experience and divine steaks - if we had been in Porto for longer we would have returned every night. Piedro is an excellent host with very good knowledge of the menu. The cheesecake is TO DIE FOR. So light but so tasty - best dessert we've ever had, we even ordered seconds. The space is on the smaller side but it's perfect that way. They have two dinner times per day (7pm and 9pm) - you need to reserve in advance but it is well worth it. Thank you for an amazing dinner we will remember forever. Can't wait to return!   I called Bota&Bira three times attempting to make a reservation, they never picked up so I stopped by the restaurant at 7pm when they opened for dinner to see if they could take us. They couldn’t - no problem! We made a reservation for the same time the next night. We arrived for our 7pm reservation at 7:05pm and they had already seated someone at our table. They couldn’t accommodate us and suggested we go to a different restaurant down the street. Very disappointed.   I honnestly dont understand the hype. The meat was not tender, the chorizo rice was burnt. We couldn't even taste or recognize the chorizo since it became black as coal.   An extremely underwhelming experience, especially considering the other positive reviews on here. The staff were friendly but the food was by far the worst we've had in Portugal. The fried chicken and pork tacos were both very dry - so much so that the latter was inedible. Thankfully we only ordered tapas, but we didn't eat much because it was all so unappetising. The food was so consistently bad that we felt it was better to pay and leave than to ask for something else - a different dish would not have solved the problem. The service was really attentive and friendly- the food was mixed up in front of me and the waiter took the time to explain how it's normally eaten the day after Christmas in Portugal. Portions are really big so you can share, or just try not to eat too much bread while you wait like I did! Porto tonico cocktail was lovely too. They seem to have two waves of table bookings- the second starts at 9pm so if you arrive between 8 and 9 you can snag a table as long as you're happy to give it up at 9.   After a bit of a disappointing start with Portuguese food, this was much more enjoyable. Friendly staff in a compact restaurant. We had two starters, a large t-bone steak with sides, a single dessert. Then for drinks, we had a beer each and a bottle of wine. To finish with, the staff left us and the couple to our right a bottle of white port to help ourselves too. Which then forced us to talk to each other.   This place is amazing, previous posts say this place feels like you're entering someone's home and they are absolutely right. It's a small place only about 6 tables, we were able to get in without a reservation but we were LUCKY. If you plan on going I would definitely recommend getting a reservation.   Came here almost by mistake & what a mistake it was. I will say this is one of the best restaurants I've been to on my travels hands down. Bruno is a good enough reason to come here alone, really makes you feel welcome and knows the menu inside and out so shout out him.   Well, you can do this in one of two ways: either you go for the tapas on the first part of the menu, or you go for the full course on the second part of the menu, or maybe... Hum... Yeah, just go for the both of them! But do go and enjoy this adorable, cosy but lively, relaxed but posh, small Porto center restaurant. First things first, the food, excelent, I had a small 'petisco' (that's the Portuguese word for 'Tapas') of Pimentos de Padrón (very Spanish, I know) but properly prepared they're always more than adequate on any starters menu. And adequate it was for being small, as the proper cut of beef I had, was absolutely delicious and satisfying as well, the Bota&Bira does take pride in their meats, as they do display them, center stage in the midle of the room, out for everyone to see. You can choose from a few side courses what you want with your steak, also there are fish options if you want. All was absolutly great, great flavors, excelent ingredients, the desert (Banoffee Tart) was delightful as well... It's just one of those places where you can't go wrong, specially adding the warmth with which you're welcomed and accompanied throughout your meal. I'll return to get some more of these amazing flavours, I truly recomend you try it for yourselves!   My husband and I visited Porto for a few days, and this was the first restaurant we visited when we arrived in Porto. We had their Octopus and T-Bone steak for our first visit. The waiter was kind with quick wit. Amazing food and vibe. This is a cozy restaurant, but it really makes the whole experience better because the waiter is so attentive. We had to visit here again before we leave Porto, so it was the last restaurant we visited in Porto. We had Rib-eye, garlic shrimp, bbq, and mushroom croquettes. Again everything was phenomenal. My personal favorite dish was the octovpus dish, but everything here is truly delicious. We had a different waiter serving our table for the second visit, he also did a great job, with great kindness, professionalism and wit. We were the only table that did not reserve the table. I highly recommend that you make a reservation ahead, as it's a very popular restaurant with limited space. We want to come back to Porto, and this restaurant is one of the reasons why we will come back to this gorgeous city one day. Thank you for creating such good memories for us.   We were lucky enough to have this place recommended to us and happened to walk by and make a reservation yesterday. We watched many people walk in hoping to get seated, only to be turned away. Our server was, without a doubt, the best sever we have had in a restaurant in many many years. It was a real, organic, un-rushed and beautiful experience.   What an experience! We reserved a table for 6, when we arrived we were overwhelmed by the cosy atmosphere and a warm welcome by the owner. The starters were delicious, we recommend the ribs especially. For mains, the tomahawk is a no-brainer, it was perfectly tender.   We've been to Bota&Bira due to its good reviews on TripAdvisor and Google maps and were not disappointed. We've made a reservation via TripAdvisor that included a 30% discount on all food items. That's a pretty good deal! Food and service were really good and great value (even without the discount). We had 3 tapas as a starter - scrambled eggs and chorizo, Padron chilis and gratin meat & sausage. The chilis and the gratin were our favorites and really good. For the main dish we chose the Tomahawk and Salmon sauté - the steak came with deliciously flavored spinach and the salmon with potato wedges (you can chose which side dish you want - we liked the spinach better). Both dishes were very tasty and to the point. Meat was more on the rare side which I like und the salmon was crunchy on the outside and medium on the inside - perfect! Since we were pretty full after that (portion sizes are generous, especially considering the price) we skipped dessert and just had a coffee which was ok, but you don't come here for the coffee anyway. The service was super friendly and attentive. One thing we'd improve would be the salt which came in little paper packages on request. Some raw sea salt or a proper salt grinder would have suited the excellent food well better. All in all definitely a place we'd recommend! Fizemos uma reserva pelo TripAdvisor que incluía desconto de 30% em todos os alimentos. É um bom negócio! A comida e o serviço eram realmente bons e de ótimo valor (mesmo sem o desconto). Comemos 3 tapas de entrada - ovos mexidos e chouriço, pimenta Padrón e carne gratinada e linguiça. Os pimentões e o gratinado eram nossos favoritos e muito bons. Para o prato principal escolhemos o Tomahawk e Salmão salteado - o bife veio com espinafres deliciosos e o salmão com rodelas de batata (você pode escolher o acompanhamento que quiser - gostamos mais do espinafre). Ambos os pratos estavam muito saborosos e direto ao ponto. A carne estava mais mal passada que eu gosto e o salmão estava crocante por fora e médio por dentro - perfeito! Como estávamos bem cheios depois disso (o tamanho das porções é generoso, principalmente considerando o preço), pulamos a sobremesa e só tomamos um café que estava ok, mas você não vem aqui para tomar o café de qualquer maneira. O serviço foi super simpático e atencioso. Uma coisa que melhoraríamos seria o sal que vinha em pacotinhos de papel mediante solicitação. Um pouco de sal marinho cru ou um moedor de sal adequado teriam sido mais adequados para a excelente comida. Em suma, definitivamente um lugar que recomendamos!
