  Jorge and Helena have a true gem! Their intimate tapas restaurant gave the the welcome we were waiting for to Porto! Their exquisite dishes left an everlasting memory in our heart and tummy’s.   I would give Tapas & Destapas 100/10!!! Came here on a whim with my sister and wow! I’m absolutely amazed at not only the incredible service but at the food! The staff are incredibly welcoming and attentive! The atmosphere that the staff create is of honesty and heartfelt conversations! The owner greeted us instantly and she gave the absolute best wine recommendations when we asked. The waitress was so attentive and knowledgeable about the food that she was serving that she painted a picture while describing what is on each plate in front of you, you could even taste the food by just hearing what she was describing. The head chef is an absolute genius! Each dish he makes is truly a result of his passion for cooling!   Some really nice food with a creative and thoughtful preparation. Loved most of what we ate. The Tuna Tartare with lime sorbet is not to be missed. Just a winner! Pork Belly was great, as was the pork cheek. The only miss for us was the Miso Cod. WAY too salty. We could only get through about a third of it. Shame. For dessert, the Abade de Priscos pudding with dehydrated ham and clementine ice cream was pretty stellar! Service was friendly and professional. The only issue we had was three of four plates ordered came at the same time and made for a very crowded table.   My husband & I were on a mission to find a restaurant for dinner in Porto. We walked for quite some time up and down side streets until we noticed through the front window, aged slabs of cured meat hung by hooks at far end of the restaurant. We were warmly welcomed by staff. We both have a refined interest in food. Our evening began with a full bodied bottle of red wine ~ Scylla Grand Reserva Douro MMXX. This wine had a wonderful heaviness, a full-bodied taste. We love bold tastes. "We all eat with our eyes first." The presentation of the tapas was visally mouth watering! Taste ~ ALL ingredients complemented one another, each flavour that bounced off our taste buds. So delicious, that we both didn't want the tapas to be finished. To sum up our dinner ~ we so enjoyed selecting and eating four very different tapas. We wanted each tapas to complete a variety of flavours. No matter what you choose, you will be pleasantly surprised. Would I travel to Porto again from Canada to eat here? HELL YA!   We ordered four dishes described as tapas. All were huge. The miso-marinated cod was a slab of cod that tasted neither of miso nor of fresh fish. The Iberian ham with potatoes was mostly potatoes with two eggs and three slices of ham. The pork cutlets tasted like dried ribs. The staff were only moderately attentive. I had Potatos with eggs and iberican ham as well as Iberican pork cheek with almond and piquillo pepper puree. The pork cheek exceeded my expectations, so soft, no knife needed.   Experience We had dinner three times in a row because it was a fantastic experience! The waitress and the owner were friendly, mindful and knowledgeable about their food. Drinks On the first evening, we asked for a recommendation of Vinho Verde - we received an enjoyable, dry and fruity-tasting wine - "Soalheiro Alvarinho" from 2022, which we then chose again the other two visits.   This was the best dinner and probably the best meal we ate in Porto. We went at 7:30pm and were lucky they sat us, because this place takes reservations and books up. While we were sitting they turned away walk-ins so definitely make a res.   Stopped for tapas and wine. Sadly, I was met with disappointment from the get-go. The olives, a quintessential starter for any tapas feast, were subpar. They lacked the distinct flavor and authenticity of local Portuguese olives that I've come to love and expect.   We had the best “surprise” experience one evening in Porto as we stumbled opine this gem! A husband and wife team with experience that began this establishment just before Covid. They certainly deserve the continued support. The chef offers exceptional Agberico Ham and puts an amazing creative spin on local classics like the Romeo and Juliet desert ( using a local staple cheese and fig jam into cheesecake form) the dishes are delicious. There is a beautiful small seating area right outside on the road for a few tables as well as a well maintained and designed in-side seating area.   The best meal of our whole stay in Porto. It's been 3 weeks now and we're still talking about the food. Everything we had was delicious but the iberico ham and cheese plate and the slow cooked prawns were absolutely standouts. Although we were stuffed we ordered the Romeo y Juliet for dessert, then afterwards ordered the caramel as well because everything was so good we knew we'd regret it if we didn't. So glad we did, the last time we had food this good it was in a restaurant on the michelin bib guide. The restaurant itself also has a lovely atmosphere. The price point is a little higher than some tapas places but the quality and care taken with the food are absolutely worth it. The service was discreetly attentive and you could tell everyone took so much pride in what they produce, which they absolutely should! Cannot recommend this restaurant enough. We loved it so much that we weren't planning on coming back to Porto but now we're trying to figure out how to make it a day trip on our next holiday!   I’m actually so mad we didn’t eat here earlier! It’s right across the street from our airbnb - and WOW am I glad we stumbled in. They seated us immediately, service was super professional, prompt, and helpful, chic modern decor, mellow music playing inside, and the food was UNREAL. We had the bread basket (incl Iberian bread with Iberian pork *inside* the loaf), olives, grilled garlic shrimp, miso marinated cod, batatas bravas, and the ICONIC Iberian ham over caramelized onions in broiled sheep cheese. Pictures included, flavors absolutely impossible to capture. Total was just under 70 Euro for 2 of us — an absolutely steal if you ask me! Don’t come here if you don’t like good food!!   Had a wonderful experience and dinner at the restaurant tonight. Our server Elena, ( I think that was her name-I had a great tawny port cocktail 🙂) was very kind and patient with with my lack of Portuguese. One of the things I noticed was there were a few solo women eating and they had great tables and service. I travel a lot solo and can’t tell you the number of times I have been placed in the back by the bathrooms or even been refused service. Welcoming to all. Very special place!   It was our arrival day in Porto. Every other place had the kitchen already closed or was fully booked, this was to our luck at the end because we found this gem. At the beginning I was afraid since it’s a tapas bar which are lighter meals and we where looking for a full dinner. When entered you could smell and see the passion and focus of the cooks. Our first contact with the waiter was professional and forthcoming. The first thing she brought us was a basket full of bread with a cheese butter and a sausage infused pork fat spread. We ordered 4 meals which to my surprise was more than enough. One of which was a tuna, avocado dish with a lime ice sorbet scoop. This was amazing. Every single dish was high quality and served perfectly. And the waiter was able to recommend us the best wine that goes with the food, which was exactly that.   We are so happy we stumbled upon this gorgeous little restaurant with delicious homemade bread! We ordered the jamón ibérico, the cod fish and the pork belly, everything was gorgeously presented and super tasty.   Lovely tapas spot that’s a bit upscale but with a casual ambiance. The wild prawns were in a delicious red garlic sauce. Make sure to get bread! There was a nice little spice to the pork belly dish that made it dynamic. A speciality is the Iberian ham, which we enjoyed on a large salad. We just walked in but it wasn’t a weekend, when places like this are a lot busier with resys. It was full when we left so clearly very popular.   Walked by this restaurant and decided to give it a try! The restaurant is very inviting and had a good vibe. We got in without a reservation around 9 pm. We shared the bread, peppers, ham and cheese, pork belly and prawns. All were great. Our favourite were the prawns ! Would recommend this restaurant anyone looking to share some delicious plates.   Poor communication in kitchen ruined a meal. The restaurant was reasonably busy we sat down @ 21.30 our order was taken , bread and olives and drinks brought out shortly after, 1st dish arrived after 15 mins and 1st main dish 10 or so minutes later, no problem other than description totally wrong .. scrambled egg was actually fried egg? Again accepted without comment, Restaurant had its own take on a dish .. 15 minutes on a member of staff came out followed by the owner / chef to inform that the dish I had ordered was not actually available and could have duck magret instead which was taken from another order ! If I had wanted duck, I would have ordered in the 1st place. They had over 30 minutes to inform that the dish was not available not to wait until my Partner had nearly finished her meal.. Poor communication, Poor Service .. I fully understand the workings of a Kitchen.. No excuses ! Kitchen messed up We paid for what we had had, would not return and will not recommend!   I wish chef to stick with local cuisine, than trying something 'sounds nice'. Most disappointed dish was cod. It is not fresh but tastes like bacalhau put into miso. As the result it is just salty tasteless dish. Others are so so but duck was half cold, pork is just fried. So not much of creation. Local cuisine dish tasted ok. It is in the tourist area but to us, it is not worth. Atmosphere was nice and there are outside tables. So maybe better for a drink with nibbles.   Amazing, amazing food. We arrived in Porto late on a Sunday night and there weren't many places still serving food. But we were glad this place was. The most delicious tapas. The chef is clearly very creative and every dish is unique. From the couvert to the dessert there were little twists to make each dish shine. The 16 hour roasted belly pork with ribatejanas migas (a Portuguese firm herby bread sauce) and the deconstructed Romeo and Juliet cheesecake were the highlights. All delicious. Bravo!   It was our arrival day into Porto and we were looking for a light meal. The ambience is bright, clean and modern. The waitstaff was friendly recommending a nice local red wine to go with our savory tapas. As we are early (7:15) it was not crowded so we could easily hear each other without straining our voices.   Ugh, such a bad experience from start to finish, which is so disappointing because we were really excited to try this restaurant based on the reviews. We arrived for lunch and we were greeted by an extremely unfriendly, kind of “bitchy” waitress/server = not a great start. She and the other server both waited on us throughout our meal and neither were particularly pleasant, helpful, or attentive. The menu sounded so great, so we were very excited to try several items, but everything we ordered was waaaay over-salted. Like, so so so salty - huge clumps of salt (see photos of peppers to get an idea) - and just completely overly salted throughout. Each item was like this: potatoes, eggs, peppers, miso cod, beans, fried octopus. Oh, and the miso cod was served in a pool of olive oil, skin side up, so the fish tasted like super salty olive oil and that’s it (see photos). Maybe we were all having an off day? The restaurant has such great reviews that I can’t believe our experience is the norm, but it was sooo bad.   The three of us had a fantastic lunch here yesterday. We ordered 5 very diverse dishes and they all delivered entirely in their own way. So, it's not typical Portuguese cuisine but rather a very creative chef in the kitchen coming up with some very interesting dishes. Of course, have the tuna tartare, the chicken giblets (very classic), the Octopus carpaccio (super tender and rich). The foie gras was amazing. The caramelized onions and brioche toast next to the liver made this a fantastic dish. The cod was also good although not quite as brilliant. And the value for money was great. The service was great with knowledgeable and attentive staff, many of whom came to check on us through the meal. Definitely try the Iberian ham and cheese, and make sure you get their delicious home made bread with the food. As an avid seafood lover, the black cod was the best bite of fish I’d ever had. Highly recommend the gizzards, pork, and asparagus. Everything was thoughtful and not exactly as expected - in a good way. Deserts were also fantastic. Would love to return and try everything else.   We really recommend this restaurant. The owners have been very friendly and have given the best. We stayed one week in Portugal and now we can say from the experience, you eat very good there. The quality of the food is amazing and how they prepare it as well. We don't like going to the same restaurant twice in a row.   We ordered two plates of tapas to start with. One arrived fairly quickly the other one never arrived. Because after over an half an hour of waiting for our potatoes we cancelled, paid and left. We asked a few times if the tapas were still coming, which was responded with "a few more minutes". The tapas we've received, the green peppers, was an overpriced small serving and the only thing that gave it taste was the salt. It was frustrating to see that during our wait the other tables received their servings as expected. The only positive thing in our experience was the fluency of English by the staff.   Have you ever tasted something and knew immediately that your life would be changed forever? One bite of their ham brioche did that for me. It was so unexpected, so incongruously perfect, so obviously delicious in retrospect you wonder how it can be that you’ve lived all this time without this beautiful, exquisite food. The sangria espumante has a lovely balance—the best I’ve had in Portugal so far…not to sweet but so flavorful (dried strawberries 🍓!) Excellent wine list and the ones by the glass were perfect with the food. Only had the padron peppers (sprinkled with the most beautiful salt) and pork belly with migas (reminiscent of the most flavorful (American) thanksgiving stuffing you’ve ever tasted). Service was warm, attentive, and knowledgeable. Marcella kept our glasses full and anticipated when we were ready to move to the next dish. Chef Jorge came out for a lovely chat and clearly loves his life.   Best dinner in Porto! All the dishes were incredible, in particular the black chorizo and pineapple puff pastry (only dish I did not get a photo of...) as well as the tuna tartar with avocado and lime sorbet (incredible flavor combinations!) We even ordered the patatas bravas, fried baby squids, iberico salad and the dessert which was not on the menu but which the waiter brought to us (some kind of portugese muffin/pastry type thing infused with rum and some kind of delicious cardamom and vanilla ice cream. The service was wonderful as was the actual restaurant and the music. Wish we discovered it sooner and not on our last night in Porto as we would have definately ended up coming again - will have to come back next time! (Traduzido pelo Google) Melhor jantar no Porto!   one of the sad places which cathegorises people judging by their outfit and if you happen to be in your "tourist"clothes you need to wait for tables outside to be freed as the inside is not available- although there was no reservation (i asked) and then magically becomes available for someone who doesnt have 2backpack and hiking shoes. Still i believe the cousine is great so if you are lucky to be in your city outfit you shall probably visit (Traduzido pelo Google) um dos lugares tristes que categoriza as pessoas a julgar pelo seu traje e se acontecer de você estar com suas roupas de "turista" você precisa esperar que as mesas do lado de fora sejam liberadas, pois o interior não está disponível - embora não tenha havido reserva (eu perguntei) e então magicamente fica disponível para quem não tem mochila e tênis para caminhada. Ainda assim, acredito que a cozinha é ótima, então se você tiver sorte de estar com a roupa da sua cidade, provavelmente irá visitá-la.
