  A local classic. Looked it might be too big for 1 person or stodgy but wasn't! Actually really delicious! Prefect for after or with a few beers. Really flavourful and lots of meat!   Despite its name, the 'Santa Francesinha' is far from saintly. It must be a sin to eat something so delicious. During my visit, I tried the famous Francesinha, a sandwich with mortadella, bacon, sausage, beef, cheese, and egg; all tightly packed together with melted cheese and bathed in a slightly spicy sauce. As a side, I was served a generous portion of French fries. The cost was €13 for an immense portion that I devoured alone, though it could easily be shared (I saw a couple sharing one). I arrived in the late afternoon and managed to find a spot on the terrace, but it fills up quickly during peak hours. If I ever return to Porto, I will definitely visit Santa Francesinha again.   This was my first meal in Porto so it had to be a Francesinha. Decided to try this place as it was near our apartment. There was a queue during lunch time and we had a 30 minute wait before getting our table. There is seating both down stairs and upstairs. Comes across like a fast food restaurant. Service was friendly and the waitress spoke good English and gave us an English menu. The Francesinha is essentially a super loaded cheese sandwich with special gravy ladle over it. I found the gravy here to be bland - neither stocky or spicy. Although I was informed ingredients used are very local. Pricing was expensive given this was essentially a sandwich with lots of cheese and meats. You could get decent size steaks and fish at local restaurants nearby (less than 5 minutes away as I later discovered). Definitely a major carbo fest and overwhelming. You had to try it because most tourists will try it. Is it the best meal I had in Porto? Definitely no. Discovered there are many excellent local restaurants in small back lanes of Porto (just outside main tourist areas) serving excellent local food at great value. A small letdown would be a location and how the tables are placed outside of the restaurant - they are basically on the road, which somehow takes away the pleasure of consuming your delicious food. And there is absolutely no "view" to enjoy... unless you are a petrol head and love watching every single car driving so close to you that you can actually smell a pine tree hanging from the rear mirror... But I guess, they just don't have any other choice. Anyway, if you're around this place you can try some of their food.   What an experience! You have to try Francesinha while in O Porto! I had the vegan one and it was delicious. I recommend getting a side of fries to dip in the gravy(one order for two is plenty).   Not sure what the hype is with this place considering the plentiful of other places to dine in Porto. First off the decor reminds me of a low grade fast food restaurant with some flies to add to the experience. Certainly not what I was expecting. Second the food was only alright. Their famous francesinha wasn’t anything special. It came out Luke warm at best which didn’t help. I’ve had a lot of meals during my visit in Portugal and this one was a let down for me.   Our group of 4 arrived for a late-ish lunch after attempting to get francesinhas at a nearby, well-known competitor. After being told it would take a minimum of one hour wait, we decided to try this place and I’m glad that we did! At least I hope the food will be good... Also, the staff is very friendly and, if for some reason, they make a mistake, they will not you leave the restaurant unhappy. For example, my girlfriend's plate was swap by another. They acknowledged the error promptly, quickly order the correct one and, since I was waiting for her plate to arrive to start eating mine, they also took my burger for it to be heated and gave me newly prepared fries (even though I had already eaten half of them). Huge portion by the way, which is probably common in Portugal, but a couple can easily share, to my opinion :D I still finished all of this caloric glory by myself cause it was tasty.   We went there on a Sunday at 13:00 for our last meal in Porto before flying back home. Our food arrived at 14:15. The place was full but noone was being served for about 1hr. There is a huge waiting time because the kitchen capacity is not enough to serve all tables. On top of that the waiters forgot our order so when dishes finally started arriving to the other tables we kept waiting for another 20 mins We waited for 1hr and 15mins until we got some fries. When we asked what happened to our order the waiter just told us to wait like it was very normal. No apologies or explanations were offered.   What've been here two times during our stay. First time we ordered cork steak and mustard steak from their steak menu and they were absolutely delicious and well priced at about €12 for a plate with side dish and salad. Cork steak comes rear which we were informed by the waiter beforehand and were ok with. Desserts were ok, all ice cream based. Second time we came here we ordered traditional francesinha and shrimp dish from their that day lunch special. Francesinha was great though it was our first time trying this dish (comes with French fries). However, shrimp dish was disappointing, too much salt and mayonnaise, had too leave most of it. Service was very good, we had same girl both times who recognized us which was nice:) We can definitely recommend this place for beef steaks!   I changed my star from 3 to 4 after now my second visit. First time we went it was quit bussy (good for the business thumbs up for that) we had to wait for a table even though they had no clue there were allot of tables available upstairs. Non or less after half an hour we found out our self and we're sitted by a nice gentleman and got good food and drinks for good prices. DONT BE FOOLD the second time we went it was a big mind changer and people were allot kinder we had o wait a little but were provided with a drink while waiting and had the same waiter after and lovely food .
