  This place is a hidden gem absolute value for money with high quality and very fresh. Love the owner and their service. It’s better to go there like 7pm because post 8pm it’s very difficult to find a place and you have to wait for a long time. It’s a small place indoor and they have outdoor seating in springs and summers.   After reviewing the Google Map pictures we thought this is a good place for a dinner especially it is next to our holiday apartment. We ordered a starter of clams, including razor clams. When they arrived most of the shell were empty, and the razor clam was tasteless. We complained and the waiter brought his chef out to argue with us, accusing us lying as we "finished" the starter clams. The razor clams was mostly left untouched but the waiter still believe we were being unreasonable. That's was just the starter. We thought to persevere to the main course, and to be fair, the steak was OK. However by then our overall experience was ruined and rushed to leave. We paid the bill full without sharing any further words with the waiter. This was a very disappointing experience. There are far better places to go for a meal in this beautiful city. Save yourself from disappointment and disparagement from this establishment.   Did a Google search for "off the beaten path" restaurants and boy was I glad! This little (and I mean little) gem was one of my favorites on my 11 day tour around Portugal. DO: Get there early for a seat, there are about 20 seats on the inside. DON"T expect a pretty inside. The walls are unfinished. DO: Order the seafood! The shrimp in garlic and the Bream was fantastic. DON"T be in a hurry...small restaurant = small staff We got seated right away because we showed up at opening time. Filled quickly and people waited outside for an opening. This is NOT a pretentious place! Go for the food!   It's 20:00 PM on the 31st of December. They took bookings for NYE, including ours. They closed on NYE, without warning. They even left the tables outside. We can't review the place, and it's a shame that they would take a booking on a day that is clearly hard to find last minute solutions. What can we say, let's wish them a terrible 2024!   Everything was really, really good. We had two empanadas with codfish to start, best way I ate codfish in Porto (imho of course). Then we had clams, very rich taste and came with their own "soup". Octopus salad was nice. We shared a grilled bream (see picture) which was amazing and reasonably priced. There's a lot of good food in Porto but this was really surprising.   We tried different sea food options. The shrimp and clams set was too salty and the shrimps are not fresh, texture mushy and soft. The razor clams were good. Sangria was not that good.   We came here base on the recommendation from a friend. The staff was very attentive and the service was good. Seafood Rice is mixing seafood with some shrimp shaped flour cake … as you can see from the picture… Octopus salad was good , a bit salty if you are not used to , we requested two three bottles of water after our sangria due to the saltiness Mixed seafood (clam and shrimp) with bread , a bit salty too.   Slow but disappointing. The octopus is tasteless and vinegary. Oh yeah and dont order clams or octopus unless you realy into onion and vinegar. Onion as spice, onion as side dish, onion everywhere.   Looked promising, but there was WAAAAY too much vinegar and onion in every plate we ordered (clams, grilled octopus, octopus with green sauce --> I think the green sauce should not mean only vinegar). The grilled octopus plate (20+ eur) contained just two little octopus tentacles and some prawns. Prawns?! If we wanted to eat prawns we would have ordered that. That was not in the description. The service was very slow and disappointing. Do your self a favour and find an other restaurant. There are many good ones further down the street. Literaly the only bad experiance we had during our stay in Porto. Visitors be warned - while this may have been an isolated incident, this place does not exist or the restaurant does not have any signage.   Great food at an in demand restaurant. Get here early to avoid disappointment. It gets busy fast and there will be a wait. If you do wait, ask for some drinks, it looks like they accommodated this very well. Some of the best padron peppers I have ever had with the freshest garlic. Great house wine and snappy service.   Amazing shrimp on the seafood salad! It tasted so juicy and sweet! The clams on the salad were also delicious! The grilled mackerel was a little too grilled and was a bit charred. The grilled codfish was super salty that my partner felt light headed. The potatoes were amazing!!! They were cooked in olive oil and were super tender. The prices and portions were great!   Incredible food with a true home-cooked feel. We had the razor clams, carabao shrimp, the arroz de mariscos, and the entrecote. All extremely delicious and would highly recommend. The bottle of Deserta Premium was on the expensive side but delicious and paired extremely well with the steak. Well worth the extra spend on it. Service was excellent and if you don’t speak Portuguese it is no problem here!   It was an amazing find. I saw one review about cheap local food and we went there. The food was amazing, we tried garlic shrimp which was juicy and very tasty and also the clamps, both these dishes could be shared between two.. we also took sardines, which was really good..in the end we took a big cup of ice cream with fruits (amazing it was). The whole food experience was amazing and worth the money. You should know that they accept cash only. There is an ATM nearby as well.   I thought it was a traditional/real Portuguese taverna, but I was so wrong. Service was friendly and grilled codfish was quite ok, but side cooked vegetables were cold and overall tasted just of vinegar. Grilled sardines were terrible: practically burnt and the fish was not fresh or not good quality anyway. Overpriced compared to quality.   The clams were incredible - very fresh, and sweet. The sauce is a wine, butter and coriander sauce with lots of garlic. It cost 11.50 euro and was enough for a complete meal. It was so good I went back the next day and got the clams topped with shrimp. They didn’t have razor clams when I went - they said they’re hard to get fresh at the moments. The vibe is very casual, you can sit out on the street which is lovely at both lunch and dinner. I can’t recommend this place highly enough, so delicious. House octopus is not fresh, overcooked, stripped of its best gelatinous skin. Sausage and shrimp as starters are decent, so is the price, but overall I would avoid this place, despite it being mentioned in several travel guides.   Such an amazing local restaurant. It’s by far one of my best seafood experience. The shrimps with garlic for starters are amazin. I loved them. And actually went again on the next day to only have those shrimps again. We also got seafood rice and it was very tasty. I would personally recommend the rice for 3 people and not only for 2 as it’s kinda huge with different seafood varieties inside. The Cali Mary was also great with a lot of fries and some salad on the side. The internal decoration of the store is quite interesting with so many hand written reviews by customers from different cultures and many different languages about the food and the place. The place is tiny, yet very very authentic. I would also recommend sitting outside in the terrace if there is an empty space. The tasty food with the romantic small street in the middle of Porto would give you such an amazing photographic memory of this beautiful city. The stuff was also super friendly, super helpful and always smiling. They could speak fluent English and Spanish as well as Portuguese for sure. Oh yes, I almost forgot! You have to try the octopus.   I really wanted to like this place as it's homely and unpretentious. The service was very friendly but sadly the food was a disappointment. The octopus brochette was doused in oil and bland. The octopus tasted like it came out of a can. The prawns were mediocre too. The salad was good and fresh and the chocolate cake was quite good though. For the quality of the food this restaurant is seriously overpriced. I expected better from a restaurant in a city that is famous for its octopus and seafood dishes.   Came into the restaurant next to closing time and so thankful they sat us because this was one of our favorite meals in Portugal. Had the paprika sausage which was flamed at the table. A good show and a wonderful dish. Clams were amazing, grilled bream was great. Vinho verde was great with our meal. Everything for 45 euros!   It's a cozy place, but not romantic. Inside are more families or group of friends. We had to wait in order to get inside, as the place is really small. They serve meat and fish. I tried the chicken steak, which was pretty well cooked and they offer some fries and salad. It's probably better to order fish or seafood here though.   I want so much to love this neighborhood restaurants. Small and cosy and the nicest people couple serving the restaurant. Just go easy on the olive oil please.   The food here is (allegedly) really good. I literally heard customers praise the chef on our way in. Unfortunately we got the short end of the stick and ordered an octopus main dish we did not enjoy very much. It was fishy, soft and the complimentary sides were cheap (canned peaches and potatoes). The service was a bit slow too because the restaurant is small and there were a lot of customers. They also served us a starter we didn’t order and we still had to pay for it.   Having been rudely turned away from 3 separate restaurants earlier in the night for being so ridiculous as to ask for a table for 2 people, Adega Merceadia Bebe Se Mal was a lovely turn of events. We were greeted warmly, assured the wait would be around 15 minutes (it was), and brilliantly looked after. Considering there’s one waiter for around 16 diners, it’s an impressive feat. The melon and ham/prosciutto starter is incredibly generous with perfectly ripe honeydew. The grilled sardines were delicious with a liberal amount of olive oil and a small mountain of garlic. Unfortunately, the fried calamari wasn’t the best but the rest of the experience was top notch. A lovely, honest restaurant experience with great service to top it off. The fish was fresh and really good but I think that I will digest the meal in a couple of days and I ate more garlic yesterday than in my entire life.   Don't quite believe that this is the "locals" spot that several articles have written about. Wavered between giving it 2 or 3 stars. The clams and shrimps in garlic sauce were sensational but then it all went down hill from there. We had the "house steak" which was 2 pieces of minute steak lacking in any taste, the chips that came with it were laden with all and not crispy at all. The calamari is not homemade and is the reformed rings that can be cooked from frozen. The octopus in mojo Verde did not taste nice at all and we left the majority of it.   Tiny but finy!! A real Portuguese kitchen place to enjoy dinner with starters and even a dessert. Good menu choices, fish, meat and more. House wine is good. All fresh prepared. Not easy to get a table at crash dinner hours but a try it is worth it. Very friendly personal. Most of the people this evening choose fish. He doesn't try cheap tricks and gives good advices, he stopped me if I wanted to order more food that two people could eat. Charges only what was served, sides included in a meal, doesn't oversell you stuff you can not afford or consume. Honest restaurant, very generous portions, rich balanced taste, all guests around looked like they feel great and happy. As it should be! This makes me so happy to know that those things still exist! Personal issue: I would use more salt some places but it is typical thing about my culture to use a lot of salt...   Best place that I've visited in Portugal. The prawn with mussels were good overall, but it's the wine-based sauce that it came in which I'd be willing to if not die for, at least kill for. The best dish, however, was the Octopus in Green Sauce. Even my young son's calamari with fries (essentially Roman-style calamari) was decent -- while I think the dish as such is quite boring (but brilliant for kids), here the calamari was tender and delicious. Get ready for a small but overall great restaurant run by a young couple in the Ribeira district, offering delicious handmade Portuguese meals (some of them made on a small grill on the sidewalk!). We tried the clams and some fish which both were very delicious, fairly priced and way better than we experienced it in some other more expensive restaurants around.
