  This restaurant is on the waterfront with fantastic views of the Dom Luis I bridge and not as congested as Ribeira. The hostess was great and very thoughtful in bringing blankets when it got a little chilly. Food was delicious and well presented and the Chef came and spoke to us to make sure we enjoyed our food.   Food and service were absolutely fantastic. We were made to feel at home by the wait staff and every dish we ordered was delicious and perfectly cooked / seasoned. We were initially disappointed we couldn't get a spot outside by the river, but the atmosphere inside is also lovely. Great wine list.   This is a very popular tapas restaurant. The owner Pedro, and all the staff, speak English and are very helpful and friendly. However, never having had Portuguese tapas before,we were not sure what to expect. Unfortunately,we decided that we were not impressed.   We ate here twice during our visit to Porto! The service is amazing, and the food outstanding. It is away from the very touristy areas of the city, which is nice.   Food, Porto, Beer, Service, and Setting/Ambiance are all absolutely 10/10. I know this place is very well reviewed but I'm surprised it has any reviews that aren't 5 stars. Very reasonably priced for the quality you experience. Almost wish we didn't make this our first stop in Porto, it's going to be difficult to try anywhere else now. UPDATE: after eating at other great restaurants in Porto (what an amazing city for food) - including a Michelin starred - we agreed that this was our favorite restaurant and we made a reservation at it for our last dinner in the city; it was fantastic again. We tried a number of different tapas to get more exposure to their menu and they were all excellent. Simple beautiful ingredients that are very well executed. We live in Chicago which has wonderful food options, have been very fortunate to travel a lot, and I'd put this restaurant up against any tapas place we've been to anywhere. You can tell that the owners have been extremely thoughtful about the space, the music, menu, the wine list and the service. The net result is delicious, welcoming, and authentic.   We were so lucky to stumble upon this lovely restaurant along the river. They served small plates and we ordered the chickpea salad with cod, sausages, mixed bolina and vegetable soup. All the dishes were excellent. They had an extensive wine list and were able to advise a drink based on our preference. The service was top-notched. I highly recommend this place!   I agree with the very high ratings for this tapas restaurant. I live in Spain so have enjoyed fine tapas there also but A Bolina is exceptional. We ate lightly as we had eaten the main meal at mid-day but the G&T, wine, smoked sausage and salad were just right for a light snack.   I was either shocked or surprised when saw the owner serving our plates. It just tells everything how great the treatment is at this fine restaurant. Also to mention the great view of Ponte Lius Bridge. The food here is as amazing as the atmosphere - the meat and the cheese simply melt in your mouth. The soup is not hot and not cold - served ideally warm. Special props go to their octopus salad - this is just a masterpiece! And the staff is extremely helpful, especially with the choice of wine. I strongly suggest you try out their green wine.   Went for dinner at La Bolina tonight, and it did not disappoint. The staff were so friendly, and took the time to explain every menu item for us as we were not familiar with many of them. We had the chickpea salad with cod fish, which was absolutely delicious. We had the pig ear salad, which was also very good. Had the meat and cheese platter, which was a personal favourite. All finished off by chocolate cake. The inside of the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous. Overall we had a beautiful evening! Thank you so much!   This was our second time at A Bolina, we came 5 years ago for our honeymoon so we wanted to come back and we were not disappointed. The food and service in this place cannot be faulted. The staff are wonderfully friendly and happy to explain/recommend anything if you need it. The view out onto the river is beautiful and the most difficult thing you'll have to do is pick what dishes you want as they're all amazing and fill you very quickly! I highly recommend the traditional chicken gizzards, I know its something that puts most people off HOWEVER, they're amazing. They give you a postcard to send back to them once you go home and display these on the wall, which is a lovely touch. Looking forward to coming back in another 5 years!   What a gem! I was able to sneak in last night as a single-top, so plan ahead and make a reservation. The food is fantastic as is the staff and ambiance. Enjoyed a 10 year old tawny port as an aperitivo - wonderful. Had a mixed salumi and cheese plate - four different meats and four cheeses - delectable. Chickpea salad with onion, egg and sardine was unbelievably good. The linguiça was scrumptious. I was so blissfully happy after I paid my bill I left my shoulder bag in the table and the gents ran outside to catch me to retrieve it. I’ve already reserved a table for later in the week to try the drunken ham and some other dishes that looked and smelled fantastic coming out of the kitchen but that I couldn’t have possibly eaten on top of what I had.   It truly *was* a dark and stormy night that we showed up, looking like drowned rats as we'd braved the pouring rain walking down the windy streets from our air bnb. Thankfully the place was fairly empty, likely due to the terrible weather, so we felt fortunate to get a table. We were waited on right away, and ordered most of the dishes recommend by our server who spoke English quite well (which was very fortunate because none of us speak Portuguese).   Lovely location, great staff and nice food. We had about 6 tapas and 3 desserts shared between three people. The food was great, and loved the suggestions we received. The chickpeas with codfish were amazing, as well as the local sausage! Wine was great, and also very affordable. We spent 73 euro - overall a very very good value for money.   Wonderful tapas experience. The manager/owner made us feel so welcome and even though they were completely full he took the time to answer our questions about the food and wine and guided us to a delicious and satisfying outcome. We shared the sausage, the cod with chickpeas, the chicken gizzards in a red sauce (like stew) and the smashed olives. We were absolutely full and couldn’t quite finish everything. It’s great to try new food and experience new flavors. The wine was a red blend, and paired well with the meal. My husband enjoyed a 30 year Port and we shared a delightful pumpkin dessert that has the texture of a firm flan, unlike any dessert we have had, and so good we ate every bite - although we were already full! It was a cool evening so we were happy to sit inside. The wait staff brought wool throws out to people who were cold on the patio. Nice touch! There were postcards from all over the world thanking the owners for a delightful experience. We will be sure to send ours from Dallas.   Our favourite place for dinner in Porto. So good we went twice during our stay. A beautiful spot with views of the bridge and river right on the water but slightly away from the busier part further down. Couldn’t have asked for more from their staff, from the explanations of dishes and wine recommendations (which were perfect both times) all the way through to giving the warmest welcome the second time we visited when they recognised us. (And both times without reservations they squeezed us in.) The staff work so hard to create a lovely atmosphere and it shows. The food coming out of the tiny kitchen is nothing short of amazing. The staff were gracious, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain all of the dishes. The attention to detail and execution of all of the dishes was spectacular.   The staff is unbelievably welcoming and friendly. The owner took the time to explain to us what each dish is and which region of Portugal it came from. I personally love the chicken gizzards and the octopus salad. Also try the green wine if you haven't already. This is an extremely popular place, if you can make a reservation or go earlier to see if they can accommodate you. Overall I highly recommend this place.   I couldn't recommend this place enough! All the tapas we tried were very tasty and the olive oil used exceptional. The space is really beautiful and the location next to the river was perfect with beautiful views. The 10 years aged Port red wine was so tasty that we ended up buying 2 bottles of this from Cibinho!   This is my favorite place in Porto for Portuguese style tapas. It's just a little bit out of the way of the main riverside tourist area so it doesn't get as packed as some other places. The service is incredible, as is the wine and food. Everything on the menu is good but my favorites are the alheira, meat and cheese plate, and the soup.   Very cosy experience. The view was wonderful and the staff extremely friendly. The food was good - will forever recommend the cod chickpea salad - but we wish there were more meat options that aren’t pork.   I thought I had posted a review of this restaurant already last year in September 2020 but it appears I have forgotten so here it goes. This is absolute a hidden gem it is off the beaten track and while remarkably close to all the tourist areas it does a great job of serving authentic Portuguese food without the ridiculous pricing sometimes found in the over tourist visited places. Service was friendly and sitting along the river without the mad tourist crowd is a great experience.   What a good surprise , restaurant is by the river with fantastic view of the bridge, service team was very professional , attentive and friendly. The food was very good with reasonable price. It’s way better than the tourist traps ( the restaurants by the river in front of wine cellars ) . This good restaurant is away from those traps not many ppl know so if you want a quiet atmosphere and enjoy the tapas dinner here is the place. We ordered a few plus wines and only cost 30 euro all together. Very happy and satisfied. Here you'll find much better priced menus and the food that is made in the centre of the restaurant rather than being mass produced for crowds. Straight from the steps down from the bridge or outside the cable car to the top it's a must visit if want either a quick stop of or an evening meal.   Overall the experience was positive, it faces the Douro River and it is close to Ponte Luis which make it very Central but not very close to the crowded area. The food comes in tapas, small (not very small, which is good) portion perfect to share! We tried the typical Portuguese food, from the sausage to the sardines. The salad with sardines was our favorite! I suggest this place for tourists who are in the area and want to have a quick lunch without spend too much. The service was also very good. Only negative side is the tables outside, too close to the street and to the cars passing by.   This place was nothing short of amazing, each bite and sip of green wine tasting better than the last. We had a party of 4 people, so we each ordered 3 tapas and it was the perfect amount of food, still leaving room for delicious dessert. I highly recommend the Toucinho do ce (almond cake with a pumpkin jelly and soft walnuts)- it was divine! So was the cheese plate, olives...and just every single plate. The waitstaff was very friendly and provided suburb, efficient service. I loved the postcard wall comprised of postcards from guests who live all over the world- very original! You will be sent home with a postcard to send back once you arrive home. :) Thank you again for an amazing dining experience, and we will return!   Absolutely adore this restaurant. It wasn't our first choice when looking through Trip Advisor but I'm extremely glad that we ended up booking in. A little out of the way but easy enough to find via Google maps you are warmly greeted by the staff and shown to your table. They explain the menu (a small but perfectly adequate variety of tapas dishes) to you as some of it may not be clear and there are daily specials to be noted. We asked for recommendations in terms of how many dishes we might need and ordered 4. The staff are extremely accommodating in terms of offering recommendations and they make you feel so welcome. The food itself is just beautiful and we really enjoyed every that we ordered including dessert and it's reasonably priced as well.   Excellent tapa bar with a wide selection of wines and alcohol. A Bolina is located right beside the Duoro River. The waiters were very friendly and explained each dish of the menu for us. It's a little away from all the other places, but definitely a very delicious place to go to. Their food is described as northern Portuguese and so their selection is has more cured meats and not as much seafood. Overall a really pleasant experience!   In summary, delicious food but forgetful service. Staff were very helpful arranging a table when we had no reservation. That's where the fun ended. The first staff member who arranged the table worked inside but we were seated outside. We ordered 5 items from their small, but tasty menu and only 3 arrived. The two missing items were the speciality sausages I really wanted to try. So, we had the trilogy of olives, tomato salad and the bread, cheese and meat platter. All delicious. Actually the quantity was just enough for us two light weights. Then I asked for a coffee to finish but that too was forgotten. Sigh. Could have been awesome, ended up average. The owner, a lovely, genuine guy (like most people here), came at the end but didn't offer any explanation or any compensation.   We ate here twice during our visit to Porto. The menu is fairly limited but that doesn't take away from the quality of the mainly locally sourced food. The staff are superb, informative and friendly. The food is delicious and the deserts are breathtaking. The wines were wonderful and the Port selection delicious. The staff is amazing, helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable about Porto. After just one visit, you will have a friend in Porto. I highly recommend stopping by for drinks, a heavy snack, or light dinner. My biggest disappointment in visiting Porto was when I learned they were closed on Tuesdays, my last full day in Porto.   We booked an outside table at this restaurant because we wanted to enjoy the view on Dom Luis I bridge but the weather was very cold :) the owner was so nice to make us sit inside as soon as a table got available. This is a tapas bar, so you can try different small plates of traditional portuguese food from the Douro valley. The food was really good, the owner was very kind and thorough in explaining the origin of the different dishes. In my opinion a must if you have dinner in Porto.   Very nice bar! Good food and friendly staff. We felt very welcomed! We just arrived at Porto and wanted to have something to eat and then we found this cute bar nearly. The service was great! They did care about how you feel and whether you like the food or not. We received post card as a little gift. When we was about to leave, everyone said goodbye to us even the cute guy sitting outside! We didn't spend much time on Porto but if we had we will definitely go there again. Highly recommend!   Best service ever. Great people. Super friendly and the food is great. I suggest the alheira. Best I had. The wines are not many but the option are excellent for the price they go for. Cosy in the winter but with the river front in the summer will be great too. Good selection of whiskey for those who like it and I am sure it might improve in the future.
