  Best meal we had in Porto. Stumbled upon it. Quiet as it’s at the very end of the waterfront. Creative, but still authentic. The cuttlefish broth was amazing and we wanted to lick the bowl.   The location is amazing, nice and quiet, right along the beautiful Duoro River, in Old Town Porto. There are times when people are walking right next to you due to the narrow seating area and walkway, but it's not a problem. The service was good, not exceptional, but good. The food was over rated and priced high for what we got. While the Cod was cooked perfectly (soft and flaky), it had no flavor. The potatoes had much more flavor, and a more interesting texture, than the fish. The fish soup was also underwhelming, nothing special... except for the display of pouring the hot soup over the bread and fish when they brought it to our table. This place would be perfect for a drink or two, and maybe their starters... but try some place else for dinner.   A gorgeous little place tucked down the side of the waterfront but well worth the extra few steps! The fresh cod with potatoes is heavenly!! The wine was perfect and the service was very warm and attentive.   Disastrously slow service. I should have read the lowest reviews cause those about long waiting and rude staff are true. After 1 hour of wait and after being told by one of the staff that our table inside should be ready any minute - and after 5 mins later told by another staff person that the only available tables were outside - I gave up. Went away and spent my money somewhere else. Would not recommend this place at all. If you decide to go, though, make sure you have read carefully all the lowest feedback.   Terrible weather day in Porto. Ducked in here for a drink and an app. So cozy and welcoming. Lovely view of the river and the terrible weather outside. Started with drinks and the bread and olive basket. My wife’s GnT was delectable and the 3 types of local bread with delicious olive oil was stupendous. Decided to order more and the suckling pig and squash and goat cheese empanadas were simply to die for. Can’t recommend this place more. Exceptional food and drink and kind and attentive service.   On the first night of my holiday in Porto, we went to Bacalhau for dinner. My mother and I split the sheep's cheese board for a starter and for the main course, she had the cod tripe stew and I had the mushroom and barley (a delicious vegetarian option). These dishes were absolutely divine but what I was most impressed by was the table service here. We were served by Leyla who was truly wonderful. We had little knowledge of Portuguese wine and she pointed us in the right direction of what wines were nice and which would pair with our meals. She was extremely knowledgable of Portuguese wines and even recommended some wine bars for us to visit during our trip. Outstanding service and food here, and I will be recommending this restaurant to everyone! Thank you, Leyla, for your hospitality. There offer potato pave (thin slices of potato really well baked and fried in a very fine manner) and that's available in many dishes they offer. Dessert too, was really good.   We were hungry and food was such a disappointment. Ordered 3 cod dishes, bread and a bottle of wine. Took it a lot of time so we finished the bread by the time the main dishes arrived. The fish was super dry and not tasty in our opinion. Also I didn’t felt very well after this dinner. Spent about 70€ and was not happy about it. Electricity went off on the entire block, I was expecting for any compensation or help with getting to the the toilet in the dark. A wonderful merge of the traditional way of preparing food, respecting the Portuguese flavour, with a taste of modernity. The only bad thing: the girl with the shaved hair on the sides, she was so rude that she was about sending us away under the storm with a 8mo baby just because we had a stroller… In Porto a stroller is a third person, even if it is foldable till cabin bag size and your baby eats milk in your arms.. they just send you away without even trying to find a solution.. they seem to be already sick tourists, you are just a number, they do not care if it will be you eating there or someone else, you must be lucky to find a kind soul, and she was definitely not such person!   Walking around the riverfront in late September and noticed this place had the name of the dish of Portugal so I tucked inside. Was sat right away, no need to reserve on a weeknight. Si.ple menu with a nice variety of options. Was a little surprised to have to pay for bread but found this to be normal as I stayed in Porto longer (it includes olive oil, olives, etc). Food was DELICIOUS! I mean who could resist fish and potatoes on top of a broken egg??? Definitely stop in on your visit to Porto. FYI, it's also right outside the museum where the catacombs are.   We came here for a very late lunch because we could not get in earlier. We could not get a table on the upper level terrace, which is probably the best spot, but managed to get one outside on the ground floor overlooking the water. Lovely spot and a good view. We tried to get a table earlier, but were not prepared to wait, so eventually at 4pm we came back on got our spot! IIt was a beautiful day and a Saturday, so extremely busy and very popular Our waitress, Ivana, was charming and knowledgable from start to finish. She helped make our day simply marvelous. She took great pride in explaining each dish on the menu, and giving us her recommendations We decided on grilled cuttlefish, cod and potatoes, and finally a slow cooked pork dish with clams. But after being seated another 20 mins of waiting to receive starters and 20 minutes to receive main dish. 15 minutes unattended after mains. If you are hungry, this is not the place.   Beautiful small place in Ribeira, with amazing views of the river, and on the end of the touristic area, so it avoids the confusion and crowds. Menu is simple, I was expecting more main dishes with cod, but the main "Bacalhau Dourado" is the reason I visited. The cod was very fresh and soft. And the thick crispy potatoes complemented it perfectly. I could lunch there every day. Service could be improved a bit. Waiters didn't seem very friendly. Also it was extremelly hot inside, main doors were left always open, maybe they could try turning on A/C indoors to improve the atmosphere. Staff was polite and friendly and the service was fast enough. I went with a friend and we had a few different things: we tried the fried cod skin, that is served with garlic mayo with some seaweed powder on top. A selection of tasty local cheeses, then the fresh cod served with potatoes, and in the end the cod loin with cod tripes. The rice dish says it serves 2 people but it was a lot (could def feed more) really tasty with tonnes of shrimp and cod in it. The eggplant dish was delicious as well.   A very typical, welcoming place I recommend from the bottom of my heart! The restaurant was sooo busy but still the waiter managed to set up a table for us quickly and without any big hassle.   This restaurant is incredible. One of the very best meals we had during six days in Porto - we lucked out by having our Airbnb upstairs from it, and ate here twice. I wish I could have gone every day. It’s hard to get a table but worth it. DO NOT miss the fresh cod dish with potato and egg. Incredible. The ambiance is also just perfect - right on the Duoro and they have lanterns and blankets when it gets cold. And the waiter Hugo is so friendly. I will remember this meal forever.   This was the best meal we had while in Porto. Arrive early if you want to sit by the water, but the inside of the restaurant still has a great view. The quality of the food was out of this world, and the restaurant has an amazing view of the Duoro River. The Maria cookie dessert was the best dessert I've ever had!   Located on a terrace along the Douro river you find a very good fish restaurant. Bacalhau is specialized in the preparation of cod and after dinner you fully convinced they are. The service is gentle and very helpfuul, also their advise is correct.   Really nice restaurant with a wonderful view. Its best to have a table outdoors if the weather allows and the availability. The waiters are pretty occupied so it takes some longer than usual to be served. But they politely apologised for the long wait and all was perfect.   Great quality food. We had to wait to be seated but they did eventually got us abtable without a reservation. Service was slow but we didn’t mind, since the restaurant is on the river, the ambiance was nice, the staff was friendly. We wanted to try unique things, and we did and we were not disappointed. The cod tongues was in a really nice creamy broth that was extremely tasty. Fish skins were delightful. The main course had cod and cod tripes. It was fun to eat.   Came here after reading all the reviews and had high hopes. Ordered both soups. The cod soup was too salty but nicely presented. the broth is very light with little flavor. The onion soup was a surprise. It had a creamy texture that came with a crunchy egg roll like pastry. It had a honey? Like sweet syrup on top. It was an unexpected but quite interesting dish. We thought it was good. The main fresh cod dish was ok. Fish was cooked well. Flavoring ok. The potatoes were nicely layered and cooked with a good fry to them. Also ordered the cod fish loin. That was a hearty and heavy dish. It came out in a pot that could’ve been easily split for two people. It was a lot of food. Overall ambience and staff were friendly. Not sure if it’s just a bunch of tourist giving reviews but it feels very overhyped. The dishes that night just lacked flavor in my opinion, but the fish was cooked very well. The cod was so tender and moist and the potato it was served with was perfection - soft layers on the inside and crispy on the outside.   I searched this place prior to dinner. It has simple selection of dishes and nice view of the river. Server was attentive and the restaurant had a good service flow. Sitting area outside is limited so it's better to come before the sunset. We ordered elderberry and fig cordial drink, grilled cuttlefish, croaker fish and shrimp massada pasta, and beef cheek stew. All the dishes were fantastic. We ended up ordering the bread to soak up sauces from the cuttlefish. The amount of each dish is average so order three or more as you eat.   I came with my friend to this very cute restaurant cause I read on a backpacker website it was local and cosy. Indeed, it’s an hidden gem guys ! You have a breathtaking view on the river while being in the center but not next to the crowded places (can feel suffocating).   Incredible little spot, walk in only no reservations. Service was excellent and the food was superb. We started with the citrus marinated cod and beet and cheese salad and had the cod loin and crispy chicken in lemon sauce for our mains. The chicken was the best chicken I’ve had in my life hands down. Lovely fresh cod dishes cooked well with great flavour and amazing crispy cod skins which were delicious. The menue is mostly limited by cod fish, hence the name of the restaurant. The Free range chicken was OK but not special. The way the potato is served is interesting. The Fresh cod was good. I liked the combination of the sautéed onions. What really spoiled my experience was the dessert. I ordered a Preserved Fig with sheep cheese ice cream. The ice cream was a catastrophe. The most awful stinky thing I have ever tasted in my life. If I were the restaurant owner, I would delete this from the menue.   My wife and I had our first day excursion walk through Porto and by 4-4:30 we were tired and hungry from the walking around this most majestic city. I searched along the river front for a restaurant on Yelp and came across Bacalhau. There was closer restaurants but they were mostly closing at 4:30pm for dinner service starting at 7pm. I called Bacalhau and they said they were open so we decided to walk and find this hidden gem nestled at the end of the riverside walk away from all the other restaurants and tourists crowding the other restaurants. We could not ask for a better experience and service with delicious cod chips, bread and olives and OMG mushrooms with asparagus and heavenly potatoes (I wanted more potatoes). We started with cordial drinks. Then we shared a bottle of moderately priced rose wine and we were set - not being rushed as people slowly started to gather to wait for service. We watched the sun set over the river and truly found a place to fall in love with. We then shared a Covine Shrimp - Bread Bisque which as an American can only compare to a fish Thanksgiving meal. Well my wife were most thankful for a completely wonderful meal and we imagine it is going to be hard to beat the meal we had at Bacalhau. I think we may need to go back to get their cod - I know such a requirement.   Truly an amazing place. Went there for lunch and had a gorgeous meal (we made a reservation just to be sure). Sat outside and enjoyed the view. I wanted to get a table outside overlooking the water but they were all occupied so the servers got me started inside with some wine and bread and moved me over when a table opened up.   One of the nicer views to enjoy dinner on the Porto side of the river looking at all the Port houses on the other side. Food was all very nice, the fish skin crisps were particularly good and unique. They have bottles of port as well at decent prices. Food is on the more expensive side but it is to be expected given the great view that you get from the terrace tables of this restaurant. Staff were overloaded as it was quite busy when we were there but still friendly service (just took a little longer to be served than expected).   What a fantastic dining experience. We may be remembering his name incorrectly, but we think it was Sergio: he was an absolute delight. We didn't have a reservation and sat down right around sunset. We were freezing outside with the strong wind blowing in from the ocean, but he gave us cozy covers and we decided to stay outside for the whole meal. Wonderful food selection and he was very patient with our wine selecting even though he was the only one working there and all the outside tables were full. From reading other reviews, it seems that the person serving you has a huge effect on whether you enjoy it or not, but we'd highly recommend it regardless. We're not a fan of the touristy spots, so this being the last restaurant on the strip makes it feel a bit more intimate and authentic to the Porto-Portuguese culture & vibe. It also being on the end of the strip which starts to curve down river gives you a little more sunset view than anywhere else on this side of the river. Thank you, Bacalhau!   Super disappointed with this restaurant! As searched on google, they have good reviews. The service was good but the food did not. There is no octopus on the menu anymore which what I saw on one of the reviews and it is the reason why I came to the place. I ordered 2 sausages dishes and i received a plate of saucisson! I will show in the photos. The lemonade homemade was so bad. Can’t even drink 1/4 of the glass. Good location but food was not good as reviews. I think they might change the owner or the chef.   Easily the best restaurant I visited in Porto. It is located in a bit of a touristy area, but it tucked away along the far end of the river walk where there is less traffic. They don't accept reservations and get busy quickly, so be sure to plan ahead. The bacalhau (cod) was absolutely delicious -- the best I had in Porto. I recommend the house wine and ordering the mackerel appetizer. Servers were attentive and extremely friendly. Reasonably priced. Would absolutely return on a trip to Porto!   One of the best restaurants in Porto. If you want be sure that get a table you should take reservation. We were lucky and get last table without reservation on 6 p.m. (after 7 p.m. it's obligated).   The veal steak and chicken dish was tasty but the serving size way too small for the price (14€ each). You have to pay extra for sides. The food was very salty as well. The view on the river is beautiful though if you can catch a table outside.   Good restaurant, but getting a table outside is a must for the full 4star rating. Food is good, good selection of wines. But, the view is THE best of the package.   Nice restaurant with good food and river view. The price is reasonable, and the amount of meals is big. The shrimp is tasty, but the sauce is little bit salty.   Enjoyed the food. Enjoyed the view. Didn't mind the passersby (when sitting outside). Seagulls may keep you company. Try to get a seat outside as it will add to your experience. Get the cottage cheese pie for dessert. It's something I've never had before and I'd definitely have it again. As for the entrées, I don't think you'll be disappointed with the choices. Sit down.   Great place to eat on the shore of the Douro River. We tried the bacalhau dourado, açorda de camarão and the atum com batata doce, all of them were excellent. Good handcraft beer (draft) as well.
