  Unfortunately this restaurant, that used to be one of my favourites, has markedly dropped off in quality (and portion sizes) from around 5 years ago. Breaks my heart to say I’d consider it a tourist trap these days, quite overpriced in relation to the quality and amounts of the food served. The service itself is another issue, the first time I went to boa bao around 4-5 years ago, if you asked a server for a recommendation he would spend 10+ minutes with you walking you through the menu, and the reason why a certain type of rice was the best for a certain course. Yesterday I got a three word answer for the same question. There was a marked change of direction somewhere along the way, and not for the better.   Amazing experience. I’ve booked a table for my sister’s birthday celebration on the 21st/Feb and from the start to end everything was great. Our table was waited by Caio, a caring and very hospitable Brazilian staff who took the time to explain the dishes, recommending cocktails and the night specials. The hostess also very friendly and the food incredible flavoursome. I absolutely recommend the restaurant and thank you once again to Caio who made our experience even better.   I was a little disappointed with the experience. The ambiance is nice, very well decorated in an Asian style. The service however, was underwhelming. At one point we just got the feeling they wanted us gone, they also just dropped the bill on our table without announcing a last round. Food was good, but for Porto maybe a little expensive. Fun fact: One day, I was sitting right beside a table of an Asian couple with the most happy faces. I was smiling back (assuming that this Boa-Bao-Experience was our mutual reason for happiness), and finished hearing them saying to the waitress that they just had the best Asian food ever. So... ... they could have been Koreans ... or Americans ... somewhere in between ... and they had to come to Porto to say that 😊👌 So happy for that too!   Bao's are fresh, really tender and well stuffed and garnished. I tried one with eggplant and the veg with Heura, and they were very good, especially the latter, with a nice, crispy texture. I wasn't impressed by the house ice tea though, too cold and too light in flavour. My friends went for the chicken Pad Thai and they said it was a good choice too.   Only one option for dry red wine which was served cold and low quality. On the other hand the water was served at room temperature. Go figure. Pad Thai was average not much taste and the sea bass and duck were decent . Restaurant was very noisy. Would not recommend.   DO NOT MISS BOA-BAO. This was the best Thai food we've had in a long time. We went back for 2 other nights of our 10 days in Portugal because it was truly so phenomenal.   A lovely experience. The staff is doing their best and well done. I personally tried the duck bao, which was very good, the lower part was quite soggy though, and it did fell apart. But taste wise, nothing shy of perfection. The dim sums were enjoyed by my company, they did look very good. The curry, I tried the Malaysian amarelo, not my favorite thing in the world. The fried rice did a good job to reduce the sweetness. Maybe next time I’ll try another curry. The veggie wok was also enjoyed by my company and they had a good time with it. Thank you!   We were there spontaneously and got seats at the bar next to the open kitchen and really liked the atmosphere. It was very comfortable and relaxed to eat and the food was very good, with an interesting variety of asian kitchen.   Went to Boa Boa a couple of times with my family to experience the restaurant's interpretation of Asian cuisine. On my initial visit I had expected the restaurant to be Chinese but soon realized it was a combination of Chinese, Korean, Thai and Vietnamese foods, a tall order for any restaurant. Overall we found the food to be quite good but not necessarily authentic to the actual dishes. For example, I order salmon bulgogi which typically comes in sizzling cast iron plate to crisp up the rice and a traditional sweet soy based sauce. What was served was a fried marinated salmon, a side order of stir-fried Chinese veggies and a bowl of rice, more of a Chinese presentation of Korean dish. Nonetheless, the dish was tasty but not what I expected. Other dishes, such as Pad Tai, were more true to their origins. The boa was also interpreted and updated to today's pallette. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant with the understanding you may not get what you expect. You may get a dish reinterpreted for today's tastes.   Second time we have been. First time they rushed us in and out in 40 mins. Thank god that’s all changed the second time. Food is amazing and that’s from someone who lived 12 years in Asia. I ended up getting the drink - in a way smaller glass and no ice. I mean? And for this ‚shot‘ of drink I paid 7Eur!!! What the heck?!? We are in Portugal - not in Ibiza!   The food came out quickly and was presented nicely. The Peking duck bao was juicy and the crispy chicken was just the right amount of crunchy.   We visited on a very busy night with no reservations, the hostess was incredibly kind enough to seat us promptly. We tried several buns including pork, fish and duck. My favorite was was pork, I did not enjoy the duck, I would skip this one, it was too gamey and I felt the sliced duck could have been thinner.   Truly awful experience, had a reservation and we’re not seated for 25 minutes with no offer to take a drinks order in that time. There were constantly wait staff standing around and service was slow and we found our server curt and condescending. The food was good but not enough to overcome this experience and really our a dampener on what had been a good day. The Thai green curry and the Massaman curry was a little too sweet for our tastes. But the larb gai salad was absolutely fabulous as was the five spice chocolate lava cake.   Aesthetically pleasing atmosphere. The food was actually terrible. We were craving some Asian food on our 3 day stay in Porto. Everything we ate in Porto was amazing except for this. We ordered a stir fry dish, yellow curry, vegetable samosas, Peking duck bun and eggplant with garlic. The Peking duck was was cold and the duck was dry and flavorless. The stir fry dish came cold as well as the rice. They promptly replaced it but it came again lukewarm and the pork belly tasted bland and like it had been sitting for a while. There was really no flavor in any of the dishes. The yellow curry tasted like watered down coconut milk. I will give the samosas a 3.5/5 and the eggplant a 4/5. I usually always take photos of the food, but it didn’t even even deserve a picture. They realized we didn’t like the food and took 50% off the bill.   We had a reservation for dinner for a group of twelve, including six children, we had sent a request via email a few weeks prior to arrival to request tables close together, we did not receive a reply to the email! When we arrived we were offered three tables (5+5+2) nowhere near each other, we declined and the host did not seem to interested in trying to accomodate us. Another diner who was waiting outside with us kindly recomended a neighbouring restaurant and they accomodated us as a group of twelve on a table together even without a booking! Their loss and a very dissapointing as we were looking forward to the food! (This is the first time I gave 2 stars at restaurant..you can check my historical review if you are not believe) We reserve table at 19.00 and We know that we only have 90mins to eat..but I guess it is unpolite for the greeter (lady that accepting the guest) to "kick out" us out from table while we are still waiting for our desert that come a bit delayed (it was Saturday dinner and it was hectic). Just to be clear, the waiters are provide friendly service but not the greeter :) A few suggestion : 1. I guess this place should have more coordination between crew and do not ask client to leave while we are still waiting for food. 2.   A full rating just for the server alone, this young man who was patient and helpful with me to help customize the dishes for my picky vegetarian needs. I ended up with some colorful and delicious dumplings which I got thru in like 3 minutes. The dessert menu looked so enticing that we ended up getting one of each. It seems to be a rotating menu, so I can't find what we got, but there was some sweet dumplings in coconut sauce and a delicious bitter chocolate cake. The ambience is very nice too, it's a fun spot for a group (there was 8 of us).   Felt like I was back in Bangkok. Great spot to go with a small group of friends or for a date. Would recommend ordering to share. For appetizers loved the chicken satay and the mixed dim sum. Must order the pad Thai - WOW. Recommend going for prawns. The sticky rice was amazing, got it with the side of kimchi, spicy. Mocktails are offered, loved the ginger one. Many vegan and vegetarian options which was nice. Desserts were not exciting, they did not have mango sticky rice which was sad. Prices are fair. We had a 7:00 reservation and we’re asked to kindly vacate our table at 8:30 for the next round of reservations. We received our food quickly - though tracking down the bill to pay was a challenge.   The menu provides a little bit of every asian cuisine like Vietnamese, Thai, Cantonese/Chinese, Korean. We ordered the mixed dim sum, two little bao-bun-burgers and one pad thai. Tastewise it was okay but the dim sum seems to be some frozen dim sum I usually get in every asian supermarket. The one soup dumpling (小籠包) in the mix didn’t have a lot of soup in it which is common for the frozen ones because it would be hard to avoid the soup from leaking out. All in all not too special and unfortunately overpriced for us! We weren’t really saturated afterwards but spent so much money on food that seemed very simple to me. Probably you pay more for the cool interior and the pretty food presentation which we did enjoy! But I guess you can’t expect it to be authentic in each cuisine when this place offers so many different cuisines and does not specialize in one. Still a special experience with very friendly staff and “hip” atmosphere.   Almost there. The place is well located, the interior is cozy and the theme is well respected ; Asian vibes (mix Vietnamese, Cambodian, Indonesian, thai - can’t decide really 😂) Ordered 2 bao (vege and with pork), they were good and came into typical steamer boxes - which is always appreciated of course. Then came a set of mix fried dim sum, spring rolls and samoesa. The food was ok tbh but was kinda pity the staff didn’t really take the time to explain what was what (especially as a vege person 👋). When we asked, the waitress failed to distinguish the rolls with duck and the vege ones (well, I ate the duck 🤷🏻‍♀️). Finally came the main dishes; noodles were a bit too much (of spices, of sauce, of oil) and the Thai green curry was not that tasty and texture is too much liquid. Well, not that disappointed though, I understand this is kinda place most of the time crowded and busy, and business is business and all, but the experience we had was not that spectacular.   Went there last night with a friend. The vibe, music and staff were perfect. Such a lovely, stress free place with cool decorations. Despite the portions not being huge, we weren't left hungry at all, as the food was very tasty and filling. The price is right for how authentic and fresh it was.   What an incredible place. One of my highlights in Porto! Firstly food was delicious and I satisfied my cravings for Asian food and what's really great is that there is a little separate set of vegetarian menu, so don't hesitate to ask the staff for it! So food was fresh, delicious. They have also nice set of drinks and you can count on the recommendation the stuff can give you. Finally nice ambience and friendly, joyful and knowledgeable stuff. The food was great but the menu isn't very extensive and heavy on shrimp/sea-food. Cocktails are outrageously expensive so I had a go at a thay Beer. Starters are also expensive but very tasty (I went with the Spring Rolls) and my main dish (friend rice with chicken) was a good portion but very bland in taste. I couldn't help but feel that they need to create a decent stir-fried chicken rice with cashew nuts and pineapple as a main dish option.   Perfect Chinese/asian restaurant. They don’t try to go authentic way, instead they’re doing it their own way which is perfect! The von ton soup i tried was delicious, but it was not regular one. It was full of noodles , duck etc. Really nice! Service was top quality, waiters are are doing their best job! Best place in Porto by far.   Very interesting restaurant that brings up the Asian food spirit to Porto. The food is very good and the appetizers as well.. The decoration makes you believe you are actually in Asia. The staff if very friendly and helpful. The prices are all overpriced, although the quality is good 15€ for a Pad Thai that costs 1€ in Bangkok is too much in my opinion.   I just loved it! Perfect place! Beautiful decor and the food... OMG! For sure a great addition to Porto’s restaurants. Everything I had was delicious: the dim sum assortment; vegetarian spring rolls; mixed satay; Peking duck bao and the black tiger shrimp pad Thai! My only regret was not having space to try more!   Nice restaurant with a charming atmosphere with a lot of nice touches. I've tried 2 dishes (Hanoi pho soup and japchae) and they were good. But, for me, it seems that the menu is an East Asia jack of all trades as it's meant to keep you traveling without spending much time in every port. It's a crowd pleaser for most but I was hoping for a more specialized menu. Really friendly staff but not very knowledgeable about the origin of their dishes which was a turn off for me.
