Delicious food and good service! Great value for money. The fish soup was so tasty, but keep in mind that it's more like a cream than a broth-based soup (I’d share one next time). We also had the mussels and squid, which were absolutely delicious! We finished with grilled fish and seafood rice. The fish was excellent, but the rice was not what we expected. We were hoping for something closer to the "arroz caldoso" that we're used to eating in Spain, but this was simple long rice cooked boiled in an average-tasting sauce. The best seafood I’ve had so far in Porto. My husband and I were sceptical about seafood rice because it looked watery and soggy but this restaurant has done it most excellently. The fish soup was also amazing - I’ve never had fish soup that tasted so rich but yet not too fishy. The grilled octopus was also something else as it was really fresh! Dessert was yummy too. I probably had one of the best meals of my life here - we rocked up at 7pm without a reservation, assuring the wait staff that we’ll be quick with our dinner and they relented - asking to have the table back by 8.30pm. We were actually already stuffed from lunch so we ordered just 3 dishes and boy were they delightful!!!! 1. Mussels - absolutely divine and great to really whet the palate for the seafood explosion in your mouth, save the bread for the broth and get in there and dip!!! 2. Seafood Rice - flavour bomb with super rich prawny and clam flavours, the rice grains are also super al dente lending a great chew and texture to the dish 3. Octopus - controversial opinion this octopus dish is one of the best octopuses dishes I’ve had in my life, octopus dishes generally have the tendency to get quite chewy depending on the cooking technique and freshness of produce - this was almost buttery soft and so tender, the tomatoes and peppers also lend to the excellent blend of sweet and creamy flavours for a harmonious mouthfeel. This place was recommended to us by the hotel we were staying at and we weren’t impressed. The service was pretty good but the food was mediocre at best. We had the mussels to start, I’m not sure how they achieved it but they smelled like straight dog s@!t. No joke, dog poo mussels. It was hard just having them on the table because of the smell. I don’t think they were actually gone off but they were hands down the worst smelling mussels I’ve ever been served. As I say, not sure how they did it but probably not something to be proud of. We then had the seafood rice as the main which was better and thankfully didn’t smell like animal excrement, but it was kind of average. Best seafood restaurant that I have tried in Portugal and perhaps even ever. The seafood here is very fresh. Never have I tried an octopus that is so soft and tender. The waiter should have warned us from over ordering but I think we ordered way too much and overate. I guess better to over eat than go home hungry. This is one of the best seafood restaurants in Porto and perhaps all of Portugal. Went here at the recommendation of our tour guide. Must tries are the octopus and squid. These are 10/10 dishes and you will not regret going with them. Also had the fish soup which was tasty but a bit too creamy for my liking and the seafood rice which was solid and delicious. From the moment we stepped in, we had the best experience ever. Everyone was friendly and warm. We were brought to our table (we chose open air seating - so lovely) and served with bread, pate and olives. The person who took our order advised us on the portion so that we wouldn't over order. This is a must do for your weekend in Porto! Mainly fish and seafood but a couple of meat/veggie options. We had the sea bass and it was cooked perfectly, non-boney, and very reasonable. All in all a very good value meal- approx $40/head including two courses with wine. Our table was 20 mins late but the lovely man at the front gave us a free bottle of wine while we waited- exceptionally well handled and made us feel positive and excited for the meal ahead. Overall, food was above average. I’d give it it 8/10. However, some of the dishes were m saltier than ideal, especially the octopus. I wouldn’t say it was perfect. Squid was great. Although I tried to cancel our reservation an hour before the scheduled time, it was already too late. I admit to making a mistake by initially attempting to postpone our reservation by an hour, hoping to still make it. When I eventually called to explain our situation, the person on the other end seemed rather upset and abruptly hung up. While I understand the frustration, it's essential for any restaurant to ensure their reservation platform functions correctly, especially when charging cancellation fees. In hindsight, I regret not canceling when I initially tried, but the overall experience left a lot to be desired. I don’t typically write reviews but I felt that I need to share the wonderful experience I had here. The food was exceptional, we ordered the octopus with potatoes and the sole and it was very filling for two people as well as being delicious and fresh. We also had a really helpful waiter who was kind enough to talk us through the menu and take us up to the counter where the fish was displayed so we could see what we’d be ordering. The general atmosphere is very relaxed including the dress code. You can dress up or casually and still feel like you fit in with the general vibe of the restaurant. Unfortunately as much as we wanted to love this place it was not the best experience. The first server that took our drink order never came back, the manager took care of us but I believe he was thinking someone else was also going to our table. It seemed so messy servers going to all tables except for ours. Our dishes were dirty once the main came and no one offered to clean up. No one offered more drinks, we had to keep asking. We wanted to get dessert but also no one offered and we were seating with dirty dishes for at least 15 minutes until we started starring at the waiters and waving that we needed the check. Prices were ok.. I found Porto more expensive than Lisboa, understandable as it’s more for tourists than local. Generally speaking €30 pp (one entree + a glass of Porto wine) Speaking of the food: Octopus was too salty and oily (for reference I’m from southwestern China and eat all the hot/salty food). I had better and cheaper 🐙 in Lisbon.. Tiger shrimp 🦐 was weighted by kilo, €85/kg during my visit, and was cooked with some tangerine(?). It’s good! You can eat it with salad or rice (extra charge). Last but not least, say no to those bread/olives/tuna that they bring to your table if you don’t want, as it cost €4. This rule applies to all the restaurants & bars in Portugal. A thing to improve on would be washing the clams better because we could taste sand in the rice.. The sauteed squid was cooked real soft and tender so we loved that as well. Meia nau was recommended by a local and it definitely hit the seafood spot! We had the sardines, grilled octopus, salmon and grilled peppers salad. Truly fantastic lunch! There was a small fiasco with our planned trip to bike to the sister restaurant in the neighboring fishing village so we arrived as the restaurant was closing. Nevertheless the manager Ivo welcomed us with open arms serving us a phenomenal three course meal and remained very attentive despite being the last patrons in the restaurant. In addition to the fantastic service the food was truly delicious from the oysters through to the fried sardines, turbot and dessert. Checked out this restaurant based on a recommendation from our tour guide and it did not disappoint! Originally, we went there to try small fried sardines, as they were supposed to be specifically delicious here but unfortunately the restaurant was out. We ended up getting the fried squid and it was so good we ordered it a second time! It was cooked so perfectly and tasted incredible. We also got an order of grilled sardines and those were also quite tasty. I will say that we almost were not able to get a table since we didn’t know that reservations were necessary and the restaurant was booked for the night, however due to a no show we were able to be seated. Excellent restaurant where we ate twice during our 6 day stay in Porto! Very attentive service, fresh fish served grilled, pleasant interior and great wine selection! They grill the whole fish and then debone it on your table before serving it to us. Some of the fish is quite big so two people can share half a fish. It has been more than a week since my boyfriend and me came back from Porto and besides the incredibly beautiful city we are every day missing the amazingly tasty food from Meia-Nau. Our host from Airbnb recommended us the restaurant and since our first dinner there we have fallen in love with this place. Every time we have tried a new dish and everything on the menu is delicious. The prawns are served in a very tasty orange sauce, we have even dipped our bread in it and just couldn't stop eating. The octopus, the grilled fish and the seafood rice, everything is fresh, yummy and just the best. Also the waiters are incredibly friendly, some of them are even the owners of the restaurant. We have felt very welcomed every time and look forward to visit Meia-Nau again, when we come to Porto next time. Loved this place so much that we came here twice during our 5-day stay in Porto. We found this place since we were reading online that Matsusinhos is a good area for seafood and one of the best-rated restaurants there is Meia-Nau. This led us to finding that Meia-Nau had newly opened a second restaurant in Porto. This meant that we didn’t have to fight for reservations and seating like many other popular restaurants in Porto. Appetizer: fried squid (our favorite since the oil was so fragrant), shrimp croquettes, grilled shrimp (really fresh!) Main: seafood rice (really good; rich flavor and not diluted/soupy), grilled octopus (so good), octopus rice (unique dish and really tasty though a bit salty), grilled sardines (fresh and so affordable), and fish roe bread soup We also loved the red sangria here. It has a lot of orange juice in it I think so it’s nicely sweet and refreshing - a perfect accompaniment to the rich flavors of seafood. Such a good find! Come here to eat some good seafood.
