  Lovely little place for a sandwich and a drink. We got the pork shank and cheese sandwich for €7.10 each. It came with crisps. It was amazing.   I'm portuguese but ill write this in english so everyone understands. This is hands down the worst """"typical"""" portuguese restaurant around. Just all around really basic food with very bad ingredients. I came here a couple of times, both times they gave me the worst cut of meat, almost 50% sinew, and horribly cooked. When you ask for medium rare they bring it raw, if you want it rare they'll bring it fully grey, no in between. Also.... chips from a package ..... really??   After ordering, I first got the wrong soup: green soup instead of vegetable soup. I really didn't like the taste of it because it tasted very green which is why I originally ordered the vegetable soup. Also there was sausage in it despite the fact that I explicitly ordered without sausage. In the menu it didn't say that there was sausage in it so the waitress asked me if I wanted it, I said no but still got the sausage. After the soup we waited like 40 minutes for our sandwiches. After asking another waitress she just acted like it's normal (but we saw serveral people getting their sandwiches inside and to take away before us) and took our order again. When finally the sandwiches came they where tasty but mine had egg on it without ordering it (waitress asked me like 3 times if I wanted egg and I said no).   This was recommended by our Airbnb host. It is a no frills Portuguese tapas. The food was delicious and the service was v. good. The actual restaurant is cramped and quite noisy which was not a problem for us but could be off-putting for others. It is good value for money. We shared three tapas plates, four drinks (two waters) and two desserts for €40 with tip. Probably the biggest signal of quality was the amount of locals frequenting the place. Give it a try!   Lareira feels like a hidden gem, albeit a super popular one 😀. Their sangria is sooo good (the white is best imo but the red is also great), and you get a large glass of it for a small price. Their chicken with Portuguese cheese sandwich is ah-ma-zing, as is the pork shank one. Don’t normally care about potato chips, but theirs are homemade with spices and are really terrific.   Definitely recommend this establishment to get a real taste of Porto. I went back a few times and tried the cod (with onion, olive oil and bread), also the cod croquettes (yum) with beer and a glass of vino verde. There is an upstairs area and also an outside area close to the nearby garden square. Returned the next day for a chicken sandwich ( with Portuguese cheese and a fried egg) and it was filling and tasty. I'm a very satisfied customer. Friendly, cute staff, and a real local feel to it, and there is also a great bar on the corner opposite the local theatre, to hang out afterwards. It gets very busy Friday evenings.   Came here after seeing great reviews, the food was reasonably priced but somewhat underwhelming! We ordered chickpea and tuna, steak vinaigrette, and cod fritters - the cod fritters were cold and overly salted, the steak was nicely cooked, but came with what can only be described as plastic ham and cheese, the chickpea salad was nice, but nothing beyond a tin of tuna and chickpea thrown together.   Disappointing. Food was very average, had better pork earlier in the day at Conga. If you're wanting a sandwich it's probably fine but wouldn't come here again for dinner. Everything comes with crisps which wasn't on the menu. Would much rather have had fries, which was what we were expecting.   Had dinner with our family recently. They sat us close to the front area and there wasn't alot of space for our baby but there is outside seating and seating in the back area that looked more spacious.   Came here for an early dinner on a Sunday. It was pretty busy but seated immediately. They have an English menu. The octopus salad was very tender and fresh. Ordered the half smoke meat and cheese which was the perfect size for a starter, loved the softer cheese.   Pork shank with Portuguese cheese was okay. It wasn’t bad but it also wasn’t anything extraordinary. It just reminded me of a simple pulled pork sandwich in the US. I did like that the food here wasn’t too salty in comparison to the rest of the city. Caldo verde was lacking flavor. This is my 3rd soup I’ve have ordered since visiting and so far I think I liked the soup at Casa Guede better.   Fantastic food and overall a lovely experience! Went in for dinner and had “pão” for Pernil with the Portuguese cheese (in the photo) and Prego with egg and Portuguese cheese. Both came with chips. Although basic sandwiches, they were really tasty. We paired the sandwiches with a Sangria, also very good. The restaurant is average sized, it has an open kitchen and if you sit near it you have the “see how to food is cooked” experience which is entertaining to see, but also the “I’m going to smell like food afterwards” experience, which could be troubling, depending what type you are.   Good place for a casual lunch! We ordered the chicken steak with fried egg sandwich and a plate of cod dumplings. I enjoyed the sandwich very much, but didn't like the cod dumplings. The dumplings were cold and the texture was a bit stringy. I'm not sure if that's how they are supposed to be, but I didn't care for them.   I came to Lareira for lunch on a Sunday afternoon, it was packed completely, both inside and outside.   I was recommended to visit this restaurant. I highly recommend going there as well. I had a wide variety of food and it was not that expensive for the experience and the meal. (10€/person) The staff were really friendly and sweet. They checked up on us and asked if everything was going well and if we were enjoying the meal (hard to find these days). I loved the entire meal from start to finish. I highly recommend the bread and charcuterie, the pork sandwich was really good as well. Paired with the white sangria, which was really refreshing and washed everything down so well. The desert was Tripas with chocolate. It was really warm and the ratio of chocolate was just perfect for the bite. A complete meal and whole hearted experience that filled my soul.   They have good sandwiches but the service is the worst we have experienced in Porto. The staff is openly unfriendly and rude. I am not coming back and do not recommend supporting this place.   Probably one of the best sangrias I’ve ever had! Octopus dish could have used with a bit more seasoning but the pica pau was delicious!   Went for lunch. No lines. Immediately seated. I absolutely loved everything we got. I had the "Pernil" (pork shank) sandwich and the "prego com huevo" (steak sandwich with ham, cheese and an egg on top) with the vinaigrette. Really cheap and really good quality meat. Also had a "tripas doce" which was like a sweet fluffy crêpe. I've visited a bunch of times since. I'm impressed every time. The prices are so low. the quality is just perfect every time.
