Staff in the restaurant was so friendly! Appetizer was interesting and good, umami with mushrooms and truffle, cut through with a tangy mayo, splendid. Main was a classic, Francesinha, also deliceous. Dessert, was a simple lemon tart, and I’d like to try a white port wine so I ordered an extra dry one, was ok. But (a very big but), when I tried together with the dessert, it was so amazingly good! Probably one of my favorite food and drink pairing of all time! It's a bit hard to rate this one since we weren't fans of the francesinha 😅 It's not a knock on the restaurant or their cooking skills at all. We personally found the francesinha too heavy, with a strong alcohol flavor in the sauce, and a bit too much for our taste. Service was great! Food was good. Fried onion for 8.50€ compared to the main dish for around 13€ makes not much sense to me. But that's not important for us. Our main issue was the coldness. Main doors were open all the time and a cold wind blew through the restaurant. We needed to wear our outdoor jackets. Beside that the tables are very close to each other and you have less privacy. We were totally underwhelmed by our experience in Brasao. The food quality was not noteworthy at all, and the portions were too large for a person. Although the place was well-decorated and had a decent interior, the service was surprisingly poor and subpar. We were seated on the second level and we barely saw the service crew hence, if we needed anything, there was nobody to attend to us. We had to go down looking for a server to assist us. The time we had to endure to wait for the food was gruelling. We also noticed that there might seem to have poor communication among the crew: we readily ordered for the lemon dessert to be served after the entrees, but lo and behold, we were given the menu again while the server expected us to peruse for a dessert. When the bill came, we were even wrongfully charged for items we did not have. Food= mediocre. Service= terrible. Cost= expensive. One word to describe the experience. Horrible. Starting from the queue at the door, waiting for 15 minutes to get the table that was free and waiting to be taken. Another 15 minutes wait until we order. The starters came. Bread was old and crunchy. In 55 minutes the steak I ordered came, half of which was so bad that it couldn't be eaten. My girlfriend's food was nothing more than mid. Nothing special. Not worth the hype. I'd skip and find another restaurant as the city has much to offer. The place is great (I recommend to make reservation earlier because without it, I had to wait about 10 min for the table for two). You can feel the Portuguese spirit within this place and obviously the food. It was delicious! First I've had a francesinha and then lemon cake. My wife and I arrived and was greated by a very polite and professional male and female. The male seated us promptly and within a couple of minutes of having perused the menu and decided what we wanted a charming young girl approached us and asked if we were ready to order, she was amazingly polite and had the largest, genuine smile that helped put us both at ease for our terrible attempts at the beautiful Portuguese language. My wife also had a sangria which when it came was so packed with fresh fruit, it would have excited Carmen Miranda herself. What an amazing experience! First they made a special accommodation for a table, since my husband was apparently too tall for the upstairs area where our table was reserved. Then the manager, Ana, explained many of the local specialties and the specialties of the restaurant. She made great recommendations that were delicious. Was definitely surprised by the crisps that came with the pork 😅. But still a great experience Marla was amazing, super friendly and helpful. Don't understand the traditonal Franceshna dish, my jaw dropped! It's a sandwich covered with cheese, the breaf and bacon inside is rather hard and dry, and tasteless. This place offered the best pinchos/tapas snack I had whilst in Porto (meat, mushroom and truffle risoles). However, I wasn't a fan of the francesinha sandwich, which I know they are famous for. I appreciate that l don't have anything to compare against so cannot say for sure if they did it bad or i'm just not a fan. I found the burger meat was too thin for the size of the bread and over cooked and the bread too be very boring. The best part was the sauce. Ordered a half portion with fried egg on top and it was still huge, the steak inside the sandwich was tender and tasty and the sauce was excellent. Also tried the meat croquettes and they were really good too. It's a busy spot so booking is definitely recommended but if you turn up for opening time you should get seated no problem. I came for the francesinha (a guide we met in Porto recommended this spot) and it didn’t disappoint - It was tender, flavourful and the portion was generous (I ordered the 1/2 size and it still looked like a normal sized sandwich). The kids also loved their kids meal (chopped steak with rice, egg and chips) and my parents enjoyed their mushroom steak and vegetable soup. We reserved a table online for 12 noon and I’m glad we did because the queue was about 50 people deep by the time we left. I would avoid this establishment if you are just coming to eat the Francesinha. I would not outright call it a tourist trap, but even if it isn't it still felt like one. They play the same set out olives, bread and butter game that others do stating clearly in the menu you will be charged for it which is fair enough, but even after telling them to take it away it still showed up on our bill and I had to almost argue to get it removed. Two different couples next to our table went through this process while we where eating and I had to do the same with my bill. Besides, who wants to eat bread and olives that have been sat on who knows how many other people's tables? Besides that they don't want you to share the and will charge you for sharing as stated on the menu. You could just order one and a starter and share while they aren't looking, but I would just recommend going somewhere else for a more enjoyable experience. One Francesinha by itself is far too salty and rich for one person to enjoy in any case, so do yourself a favor and get the meal at some other place that is more fun and low key then here. We waited about 30 minutes in the queue to sit in the restaurant. Food was very good all around. Francesinha was amazing! Really tender meat and tasty cheese and sauce. The pica-pau was also good, we didn’t fully understand the dish but it was tasty. French fries were also good, we appreciated that they were not oily at all. The service was a bit chaotic: we did not get one of the appetizers that we ordered, but received an extra portion of fries. OMG this steak sandwich might not look like much but it was the best steak sandwich I’ve ever had. Idk what they did to it but it was magical. Perfectly seasoned and cooked then I feel like maybe the bread was scraped with garlic or something but it was so flavourful and so simple. Very nice restaurant in Porto with authentic local food. However, the queue is usually extremely long so you should make a reservation prior to the date. All the snacks and appetizers are very tasty. If you are looking for some jaw exercise, I would recommend the steak here. This is by far the most disappointing meal we had in Portugal. The francesinha was cold, the steak was rubbish (think my 10 year old brother can do better than this), and even the chips are soggy AF. I can confidently say the only pleasant thing at this restaurant is that freshly cut plate of orange and the great smile on the server’s face. But no thanks. We didn’t have reservations but we’re able to walk in after a 30-40min - and it was worth the wait! We tried their famous Francesinha and it was delicious, and filling! We ended up sharing between 2 of us so we could try other items on the menu. Our server Celio was very caring and attentive, as were all the staff members. The dish itself is too heavy for me, if I went again I’d definitely get the half portion, but what we had was good. The place has a great vibe and lovely wooden interior giving it an older aged style feel. The staff are friendly, speak English and are open to a chat if you are. Third time I visited this place and it's always excellent. We had panaché to drink and started with the meat, mushroom, and truffle rissol. The flavor has so many layers it is beyond comprehension. The garlic mayo is also very good. My main course was a francesinha with egg and French fries. very tasty. I asked for extra sauce (free) and it was there for me. Finally, we tried the chef's suggestion for dessert (cookie cake based on butter and heavy cream). Not incredibly tasty but cool enough for a hot day. Would visit again! Came here for the Francesinha, reputedly the best in town. It was the best we'd found. But the steak in the Francesinha was a bit leathery, the food was overpriced, and there was a 3.50 cover charge. It was crowded when we got there at noon, and were told we had to vacate by 1:30. Certainly worth visiting once for the Francesinha, but we'll pynot return. We arrived around 10 minutes before opening and there was already a pretty big line in front of the restaurant. We were able to get a table for two hours (didn't have a reservation), which was enough. Service was fast and professional. Amazing Francesinha! We also had steak which was great. The restaurant is lovely. I would book ahead and ask for a table on the top floor as it’s quite cosy and private. Our first try at portugese food. Food tasted delicious and portion was really filling. Good value for money! For the starters, we had the rice crackers with mayonnaise and bread with ham butter. Both were delicious and very interesting. For mains, we ordered the francesinha, steak and steak sandwich. OK FOOD, SLOW SERVICE, FRIENDLY STAFF. Showed up 5 minutes before they opened for dinner (6:55pm) without a reservation (they take reservation over phone) and there was already a line formed. They opened 10 minutes late (710pm) after they completed their team cheer... but we were able to get a table. The staff was very friendly and upbeat. The appetizers came out quick (see picture), but the main dish, Franceshina, took 1 HOUR to get. The room was very warm on a cool night and it was very loud (90s pop music). We were not the only table waiting for food and drinks for a long time as I could hear the waiter apologizing for the wait. We have visited here for last 5 years since 2017. The place is big with great decorated, and it is always full when we are here. They serve traditional Portuguese dishes with great amount. Even though the price is increasing each time we visited, but it is still one of my favorite restaurants in Porto. Although last time when I reserved the table, they told me that we will have only 1.5 hours to use the table. Then I ask them why is that? They told me this is the booking procedure. So I told them that I never heard of this before, also as my previous experiences we usually take a bit more than 1.5 hours. I explained to them that we are not going to eat at a cheap buffet, so you shouldn't have timelines like those places. We will need to have at least 2 hours to enjoy the meal comfortably. In the end Patrícia took care the issue, then tell me the reservation is confirmed. I understand that the restaurant would like to increase the Table Turnover Rate to make more money. But 1.5 hours is too little time for a proper meal, especially you will spend average at least 30 euro per person. We wondered why there was always a line outside Brasão before opening time so we decided to try it too. Luckily we were able to get a table without a reservation but the place filled up pretty much instantly after it opened. We went for the francesinhas and weren’t disappointed - though now I understand why they have a so called 1/2 portion. The full size is certainly too much for one especially if you’ve had a few things beforehand like we did! The croquettes were incredibly delicious. A lovely atmosphere inside, with incredibly friendly but non local staff and good service. If you are able to get a table, definitely come here for a francesinha but make sure you don’t eat too much beforehand! We were recommended to try this place by a local friend. For the 2 weeks stay in Porto, we ended up coming here twice as we enjoyed it so much. We visited for dinner and they helped us find a table tho we didn’t have reservation. Staff was amazing and attentive. We both didn’t like the food. The eggplants was a bit tasteless. The soup was also missing some flavor and was plain. The Francesinha vegetarian was mostly cheese and bread and didn’t have flavors either. You can’t miss this place if you are in Porto! Let’s start from the service… Samurai, Inés and the whole team are simply amazing! We stepped in without any reservation and the lovely young lady at the door kindly found a table for us. We ordered octopus salad, croquette, francesinha (which is to die for!!!!) and the beef ribs (suggested by the staff -thanks a lot for that, it was exactly what I wanted-). Lovely ambiance. The bread and smoked ham butter was amazing, as was the spice cheese Rissol. A half portion of the Francesinha is more than enough, and if I did it all over again, I'd probably skip that and go for the steak or just focus on items from the snacks section of the menu. Very popular place to eat the Francesinhas, which was overall good. The cheese in the salad was too salty, so I wouldn’t recommend it. The prices are reasonable and the atmosphere in the restaurant is very nice. It is very busy in the lunch hours so you might want to make a reservation. Fantastic service from the moment we sat down. Amanda was very attentive and was by far the best service we have had during our weeks stay in Porto. The whole crispy onion to start was great to share, followed by half a francesinha each which was plenty and delicious. I wish I could give this place 10 stars. If in Porto, one definitely needs to stop at this place! The best service, the best food and great price! Avoid the hipster tourist traps and have a proper meal. Even the half portions are big enough to share. Enjoy the nicest waiters and please don’t leave without trying their DELICIOUS lemon meringue pie! It was a great surprise, but I mean, this whole experience was such a great surprise we came twice in a row. You definitely know how to run a business and run it with Pride! Great restaurant! Had lunch with my family, previously reserved. The restaurant quickly got busy and full so I suggest booking in advance. We were welcoming by a super nice staff and service continued to be friendly, efficient and nice. I purposely went here for the francesinha which was amazing and I had it many times before, love the touch of extra sauce on a jar once requested. The rest of the plates where also good, as per photos demonstrate so the feeling was mutual amongst us. The layout and decoration Is nice and the bar provides wide range of drinks. It's our 3rd time in this restaurant. We love this place a lot. Two times we been there 4 years ago and we where impress whit a food and atmosphere. We're back to Porto second time and back to the Brasao Aliados. Our waitresses Anita and Suelington where friendly, knowledgeable and helpful! We order appetizer shrimp croquete and rissol de carne, fresh, delicious and tasty. Also we ordered soup creme de legumes and francesinha always fresh, authentic and unique taste. I had a very nice dinner with my friend at this restaurant. The atmosphere is cosy and rustic, with lots of wood and warm light. The staff was quick to respond to our wishes and brought out the food at a reasonable time. We had the octopus starter and a steak and a fish as main courses. The steak was on point - however, there was bits of popcorn in the sauce, which seemed a bit unnecessary, as it didn’t do anything to the taste and was a bit irritating during eating.
