  We were disappointed by our meal here after super high expectations! The first problem was their booking system…we had to give our names on a list (actual pen & paper) and waited on site for an hour! There were quite a few people waiting at lunch time. We tried the starter of local blood sausage with pineapple which was good. I ordered the 300g sirloin house steak (w/ fried egg, garlic & peppers). The steak was massive but had zero fat and was drenched in a sauce…which meant there was no charred texture at all. Basically the steak was "too wet". My companions had the pepper and passion fruit sauce steaks and we all agreed that the meat was chewy. The value for money is good but we were disappointed considering the hype on the local Azorean beef.   I will remember this restaurant for a long time. We made the reservation for first hour available 12.30. We went for THE bife, couldnt have made a better choice.   The food and the service were very good. The soup, blood sausage with pineapple and the steak (meat) were great. My partner had meat and I chose the vegetarian option. The vegetarian option, Seitan steak was bad - I never had Seitan steak before and hence cannot compare it to anything. So, I would recommend trying the other dishes and not the seitan steak.   They say you should make a reservation but we dropped in around lunch on a Friday and had no issue or wait to get a table nor did any of the people who arrived after us and there appeared to be a steady flow. Take that for what it's worth. Very friendly staff at the door and very friendly servers who happily explained menu items and answered our questions. We started with a lovely shrimp dish, garlic shrimp. For mains my missus had a pork loin with pineapple and I had a sirloin with a passion fruit cream sauce. Both came with fries. The meat was very tasty and cooked as requested. The fries were different from what we would get in Canada but were very tasty. We both had very tasty beers. We were both happily stuffed by the time we left. Very much recommended.   Lovely, warm ambience with beautiful natural lighting. Service was fast, friendly and accomodating. The food however was underwhelming. We ordered the grilled tuna steak & hamburger for 2 but both meats were not cooked according to the requested doneness. The hamburger patty was overcooked, dry, crumbly and overseasoned. The tuna was raw, grey and underseasoned. It is clear that they use frozen meats which is not pleasant to the palette especially when it's raw. The side of fries were good, grilled veg were overcooked but well seasoned. Soup of the day was rice & chicken which was well flavoured but underseasoned. The portions are very, very generous for the price but I'd rather they charge the same for less quantity and better quality. This restaurant has a lot of potential to showcase the simplicity of local cuisine. I hope the kitchen will look into improving their quality and consistency. My two cents as a trained chef.   At this point , I believe it has become a tourist trap. I forced my Husband to have dinner here. His chicken has amazing , but After watching so many cows on the road, I thought this would be the most amazing meat eating place. So disappointed . There were so very courteous not to charge my meal. I wanted medium rare, but it was medium both times . The hostess realized It, and she was so apologetic.   I was a little surprised by the location, but didn't think too much of it. It looks a little bit like an upscale cafeteria. I ordered bread, fresh cheese, and the tenderloin. I wish the bread was toasted but it was still good and the cheese was nice. The fries that came with the steak were nicely fried but didn't have any seasoning. The steak unfortunately was quite disappointing. It didn't taste like much, was in a sauce that also didn't taste like anything, and was a texture I didn't quite expect. I didn't bother to complain about it, but maybe I should have...but I didn't want to be disappointed twice. We asked for a box to go after taking a few bites to see if we could salvage the meal at home. The waiters were friendly though.   We came because of all the recommendations but unfortunately we cannot agree with them. The service is great (really friendly staff) but the meat was rather chewy and hard to eat alhough we both ordered tenderloin. The side salad was definitely not fresh, we tried to eat it but it was not good. The vegetables were cooked way to long and the fries did not have salt. The dessert was okay but very sweet. The wine was very good though. So summed up it was okay but we would not go there again.   I normally don’t write reviews, especially bad, but… Big disappointment for a MEAT restaurant. Beef seems to be of an ok quality, but it is so badly cooked. Covered in either overly salty or blant sauces, no respect for the ingredient. Well done steak comes rare and bloody. Not worth the price. Anyhow, I guess (almost) all of the above is a matter of the personal preference - but the violent food poisoning starting literally minutes after leaving the restaurant and lasting entire night is not.   Disappointing overall - especially after seeing the happy cows on this beautiful island and all the top notch reviews. The shrimp appetizer was tasty, as was the beef tips for dinner. However, the association “tenderloin” I ordered was certainly not a tenderloin cut. It was also full of tendons and tough to chew.   Incredibly difficult to make a reservation. Staff was unfriendly and standoffish. It was clear they did not want us in their restaurant. My wife’s steak came out virtually uncooked. It was uncomfortable to do so, but we sent it back and asked them to cook it more. It came back less than a minute later virtually the same. We had to send it back a second time. The picture in this review shows the meat after we sent it back for extra cooking two times (still incredibly rare). My steak was average. Both pieces of meat were cooked inconsistently throughout. Anyway, the french fries that comes with the steak could be better. It is not a cheap restaurant, but the food is great and 300g portion of meat is not small.   Positive: Staff was very attentive and spoke excellent English Prices are fair considering the size of the portions Most of the food was excellent, e.g. the salmon fillet and mustard-beer-sauce for the steak. Negative: The place is very uncomfortable and loud. It has the vibe of an army barrack / mess hall. Nothing to absorb any noise, you have to yell to speak to the person next to you. Whatever you consider an intimate dining experience, this is the exact opposite. The steaks were awful. The sirloin seemed more like a poorly cooked Entrecôte, it was chewy like the sole of a shoe. They know how to do it properly medium, and still it was almost inedible - you could barely cut through it with the steak knife. Poor meat quality perhaps? Or maybe they kept it warm for too long? Some of the other dishes were not properly cooked either. The salmon was cold in the middle (at least it tasted great, though). They brought the steaks out first and the sides a couple of minutes later. So you have a choice between eating just the steak first and the sides later, or wait for the sides and eat your steak cold.   Good honest steaks. Ordered blood sausage as a starter which was very tasty. Got two tenderloin steaks to share between 4 people, one with 3 pepper sauce, the flavour was gorgeous and the steak was cooked to perfection and very tender. The other one was a traditional one which was also very good but a bit more basic. Next time would definitely try the one with the cheese sauce. Definitely very good quality meat.   Our medium steak was rare. The Portuguese cotfish was really dry and chewy, tasted like from microwe, veggies that were supposed to be a side to the dishes were all pickled, shame it wasn't mentioned anywhere. The service was honestly horrible, we waited around 35-40 mins for the meals to arrive. After we were done and asked to pay with a card a waitress forgot about us, another one came asked if we want a dessert after some time, after which we asked to pay with a card yet again, then she forgot to bring us card receiver and made us wait another 10 minutes.   Two of us went and got the same cut of meat with slightly different sauces. Mine was absolutely perfectly cooked and the meat would almost just fall apart. One of the best steaks I've had in a long time. My friend on the other hand had jaw pain the rest of the day as it was the chewiest steak he had ever had.   Very good steak. I went for the Três Pimentas tenderloin and it was very good. I had it medium rare which may have been a bit too much on the rare side, but the meat was very tender. I would recommend the Bife à Associação though, as the sauce with that one is less overpowering and leaves more of the meat flavour.   We've spent a week on this island, this is totally hyped. There are so many small restaurants around, we really don't know why this has so many reviews. Yes, the meat was good, but not better than other local places. However, the prices are high and the menu is 80% steak. They don't even have liver, which we ate twice in our trip and is a really simple local dish. They also don't offer a house wine... It's like a fast food joint with good meat.   Good, not great. There are better steak restaurants on the island including o Silva and casa do Abel. There’s definitely good variety in the sauces and the steak is cooked right but the quality can be better - still a tug of war with the meat to eat. Big portions though. The fries are good. Appetizer section is small and mostly unimpressive. Skip the bread, comes out of a bag and doesn’t look fresh. Dessert is alright but nothing to turn heads.   If I could give 6 stars i would. The three papers steak was creamy and spicy. The cheese sauce steak had this beer cheese compliment to a juice well cooked steak. Everything pair nicely with a glass of Portuguese wine. I think they should bring back passion fruit pudding we wanted to try it but it was removed from menu.   Great steak! I ordered the sirloin and my boyfriend had the tenderloin (with the latter being quite a bit more expensive), both with the 3 pepper sauce. They were both great. It really depends what you put first: texture or flavor. Be willing to have super early lunch to get in without waiting a lot. We were OK to do that and had light breakfast.   Given the hype we expected a LOT more. It was an average meal. The menu is heavy on beef. It had kid friendly options like chicken nuggets.   Went here for steak and steak bites. Also had their blood sausage with pineapples. As others have mentioned, the sausage and pineapple don’t really go well together. Pineapples were bit hard and not as sweet and ripe as the one at the pineapple plantation. Blood sausage was tasty. The highlight was supposed to be the steak and steak bites but the flavour was overwhelming underwhelming. It barely had any taste so we got it to go.   You have to reserve this place days ahead of time. Do not be surprise if they don't answer the phone wich we tried for 2 days which is a turn off for such a good restaurant. We showed up as we were in the area and thought they would not let us in till we started to talk in our own language and they saw we were foreigners. They found us a nice table for 7. Service was really good no wonder the place is full even for lunch. Good steak along with good desserts and prices are way cheaper then what you would pay in North America for the same quality food. The only complain I have is get somebody to answer the phone as I heard they will not answer when they have no place anymore that is not the way you treat your paying customers that will catch up to you in time.   As as was on my own, I was able to get a table at lunchtime almost right away. I chose the shrimp (15E) and the tenderloin 3-pepper (18.5E) with a nice wine at 16.5E. Immediately I was amazed at the portion of the shrimp. This was easily a meal by itself. 8-10 giant shrimp in a garlic-slightly spicy sauce. Amazing. The steak followed almost too soon. Here is where I have to detract from other reviews: for the second night, I see that on the Azores, they 'drown' the steak in sauce. I asked for the 3-pepper sauce, which was just OK. The steak was nice, but the consistency, the thin cut made me think that it had been possibly 'tenderized' (malled by hammer). For North-Americans, please remember that 'medium' in Azores means very close to 'bleu/rare' in Canada/Belgium. The steak was OK - not great but quite nice to savor. Recomendo este local, é simpático e pode ser uma experiência a não perder nos Açores.

  Really nice place, but sure to make a booking of you are around this area, famous for the regional steak, it's a must try and overall really nice food and environment!!!! Starters such as morcela with pineapple are a must since it is different for the morcela of the continent and it mixes really well with the pineapple!!! You should try as well if you haven't the local cheese with local sauce!! The also have crafted beer!!!!   It’s definitely a must visit place on the island, the food is good, portions are huge and prices are very affordable (remember that you get a proper steak there). We ordered the Association steak (I would rate it 8/10) and one of the hamburgers (it’s not a joke that it is for 2 people while you pay something around 8eur, we rated it 6/10 though). Definitely can recommend their own beer. The place also looks very modern and cozy.   Amazing food. I'm lucky enough to have eaten in some top steak restaurants in several global cities and honestly the meat here compares with all of them. As you'd expect it's more pricey than many typical restaurants in Sao Miguel but still not particularly expensive (especially considering the quality of the food!). We had wanted to come for dinner but weren't able to get through on the phone to book a table so decided not to risk turning up without a reservation, came instead for lunch on way to airport and were seated no problems.   We went to the Azores for 2 weeks of vacation. We went here multiple times because the food was so incredible! Seriously some of the best food we have ever had in all of our travels. Their Queijo D'Associacao is the best cheese I have ever eaten in my life. I saved the wrapper for months upon our return trying to find something similar in California (home) to no avail. Attached is a picture and if anyone knows how I can get this to San Diego, please let me know. My suggestion - spend the little bit more to get the better cut of meat. Cheaper meat is still delicious, but spend the few more Euros for meat that is significantly better in taste and less chewy. Wine - there are multiple options and everything we had was wonderful.   Walked in for dinner without a reservation and had no problem (arrived around 6:00pm) and saw a number of other couples do the same as we ate. The steak here is quite delicious, extremely tender and served with garlic, pepper, and a fried egg. For the price, it's hard to imagine a better piece of meat -- I've spent far more on lesser beef. Those happy cows don't just make great cheese. Chocolate mousse is a great was to cap it off.   I was there 2 times. 2 times i ordered medium rare Rumpsteak. Both times the steak came completly flat and more than well done, so no more red, and the sauce was with a skin. Both times I was complaining and i got both times a very good medium rare Rumpsteak with a fresh sauce on top. So i was there with groups. My friends got also not a steak they wanted but they did not complain. The side dish was always cold vegetables. Also others orders beef loin and it was completely burned. Its is realy painfull that they use the best parts of the animal and dont have any respect to prepare it correct. The prices are very high and the quality very bad. We had always a reservation, but they even did not clean the food dirt under the table. The restaurant gets every day full, it seems a place to be. But they dont have knowledge what they are doing there, or you go and give them a second chance. But still it is a shame wasting so much meet. A shame.   I was excited going to this place after my father-in-law recommended that the steaks were great. It was one of a few places I had stumbled across that actually said what cut of beef was actually the stake in question. Generally steak is steak. Any cut of beef is essentially steak in Portugal providing it has been pulverized in the kitchen with a meat mallet and disguised with a damned fried egg. I ordered tenderloin. Despite the name the chef still killed it in the kitchen and probably stamped up and down on it in studded football bootsfor good measure. It could have been anything to be honest. Average by our standards and, no doubt, excellent by the standards of the Portuguese as food goes. The sauce was apparently special. It was like a wet, brown and salty wash. Of course there was that damned egg on top too. Best bit was the side of fries. If you're hungry then this place will fill your piehole. Avoid all deserts that contain the word 'pudim'. They are not very nice and uninspiring. Stick to fresh fruit. The local Azorian pineapple is great.   Absolutely superb food! We were given this as a recommendation to visit. Tried to call to book, but could not get through, so thought we would take a chance and turn up and hope to get a table. There were no problems and we were seated quickly upon arrival. Service was swift and courteous. We both ordered a steak and it was sublime, 1 of the best steaks I've ever had, cooked to perfection. Every mouthful was delicious. Reasonably priced too, very good value for money considering the quality of food. Tried to make reservations by phone on the day as we had read this was the best way to get a table, but were not successful.   The stake really is something to write home about. It's absolutely fantastic. We asked for half steaks, which is more than enough for one person unless you really eat a lot (and I mean A LOT) and individual glasses of wine which are served generously. There are also a lot of options for wine. The place itself is noisy and they don't answer the phone for reservations, but we were able to find a table on the spot. However the waiters are very professional and friendly. In the end we paid less than 20 per person and ordered the most expensive foods on the menu. A real bargain for what we ate.   One of the best steaks I've had in my life. Husband and I ordered the tenderloin regional "association" steak to share as the reviews said it was a large portion. They were right! It came with fries which were also tasty and a fried egg. Steak was topped with a delicious regional red pepper which gives the steak it's flavour and also some tasty garlic. So good! And we couldn't even finish it all and took the rest back home for the next day. Husband had their beer and said it was good. No room for dessert sadly. We came around 5pm and it was pretty empty which was great. Need reservations ahead of time for 6pm or later. The waiter was lovely.
