  This is what my wife and I consider a genuine restaurant. The decoration it was just amazing. The service and food was just top quality. We got Octopus, tuna tartar and beef, everything was beyond exceptional. We were so pleased by the flavor of the beef, and the seasoning for the tuna tartar.   Really enjoyed this little gem. Seared tuna rolled in sesame seeds was a total joy, so soft. Gyosas were gorgeous. Only dislike was the slight vinegar hint to the tempura anchovy, but that was just personal taste. Lovely place, intimate atmosphere and pleasant staff. Happy to recommend.   1. They added a different wine from what I ordered in the bill and when I pointed out the staff said there was no stock. Without getting my consent they added a higher price one and brought the bill without any comment until I found out NO HONESTY! 2. Tuna tartare doesn't have tartar taste. The sauce was cheap sweet Thai chilli sauce, overly sweet. 3. No credit card sorted accepted and they said they already notified with a SUPER TINY NOTICE. 4. NO SERVICE MIND and this is a TOURIST TRAP!! Please avoid with all cost! Above all, they never apologized and saying it's LIE. If you want to do this business, please put your heart into food and service. Look at the restaurant's eviews on lowly rated one. They are cursing... That's who they are.   Rather an unassuming looking place from the outside but there is a beautiful room inside decor with wine bottles and corks. The food is something to die for, with tasty local Portuguese tapas that leaves one satisfied and happy. The local wine served was very good and service was friendly and helpful. Tucked away in a quiet square, this was an excellent place to dine in. The Wood party.   We have been to Ti Maria around 5 times over the last 18 months. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice and the food is excellent. Unfortunately we found the staff on the last 3 occasions to be miserable towards being rude. They seem to have a certain arrogance about them. They simply have no energy to serve you. This always comes as a huge disappointment where the food is great. The staff really let the chef down badly and of course the restaurant.   Visited in early august. In the 2 hours we were at the table for dinner, not once (not an exageration) did the waiters approached our table. I had to battle for their attention, even to ask for the menu card. We ordered 45 minutes after being seated and got 3/5 of the food 1 hour after. They forgot 2 dishes. I’ve been here before but this was the last time. Advice for management. If you are unable to provide a decent service, then reduce the number of tables. This was an absolute nightmare.   This is a must visit restaurant if you are visiting the area. I stumped upon it and was so grateful I did, I had 3 courses because the first 2 were so incredible. The octopus was to die for, the tuna tartare was top notch. It’s away from the tourist trap area too, which makes for a great real local Portugal experience. Staff was great, FYI cash only.   Our tour company took us here for a stop over to Seville from Lisbon. We were given an hour and a half for a quick lunch. We found this restaurant based on the reviews. We couldn’t agree more with the reviews. The food and their house wines were exceptional except the restaurant ONLY accepted cash 😳. Luckily we had enough cash.   Sad story… Somebody is trying to put together a “gastro-bar”, while the lack of experience (as usual) ruins everything. To make the long story short: a reservation for a birthday party… We were told that we can only make that for 7:30 pm. Not later! Then - the table we were given was the one facing the sunset. Directly. No umbrella. No way to move away from the direct scorching sunlight. Staff telling you you’re obliged to sit there irrespective of how uncomfortable that could be (while three other tables remain empty …). Plain food (nothing special), mediocre service, yet holiday prices. And waiters who will look at you in a judgmental way, as if you’re there only to cope with their instructions (“you cannot sit here. Sit in the sun! Now!”). Again, a rather sad story - poorly trained personnel, mediocre food, overpriced tapas menu, quite uncomfortable location. In two words - a cheap, yet overpriced place with mediocre food and a poor wine selection. Pretending to be “classy” (in a Portuguese provincial way), while offering less than any local taska would do for half of the bill paid. Mais uma vez, uma história bastante triste - pessoal mal treinado, comida medíocre, menu de tapas caro, localização bastante desconfortável.   Amazing place. Firstly this place was recommended by our villa rep as extremely good and he was not wrong. I would however, recommend booking at busy times, we had not but they kindly managed to squeeze us in. The food was amazing, our waiter made some great recommendations and advised us correctly on the amount of Tapas to order. The octopus, seared tuna with sesame seeds and the farinheira balls were delightful, full of flavour and delicately seasoned. The stuffed bread was also a hit with us all. The food was that good we even forgot to take photos as we just tucked right in which is most unlike my two teenage daughters.   Went in with high expectations based on all precious reviews, Unfortunately Ti Maria didn't deliver. We had the Ti Maria Treasure (goat cheese in puff pastry), the tuna tartare, the octopus tempura and the Ti Maria Octopus. Both the Tuna tartare and the Octopus Tempura came with an overly sweet sweet chili sauce (tasted like it came from a bottle but not sure) which kinda ruined the dish for us.   Ti Maria is set on the street corner with a wonderful patio. Walking up to the restaurant we were excited and expecting something delicious, fresh and local to go with the beautiful setting. Unfortunately, we were let down. We asked the server for a recommendation by asking "what would you get if you were eating here with your family". He smirked in response and recommended a few dishes. We should have interpreted his reaction better because I don't think he would eat here with his family. The food felt like it was prepared hours or days ago, it didn't taste fresh.   We got spoiled as we stayed in Tavira a few weeks and went to this place on our first night. We failed to find better food in Tavira since (so we came back again). The food is 'wow' good, like when you stop and can't help but laugh because it is so good. We just went with what the waiter recommended, tuna tartare, octopus tempura and Ti Maria's treasure. I don't even like octupus that much, but it was very good. And the Ti Maria's treasure was the star of the show, goat cheese pastry with honey, amazing! Also it's away from the center in a nice setting and beautiful building next to a church. Would highly recommend to anyone!   In a quiet neighborhood away from the downtown bustle. Had the tuna tartare, stuffed mushrooms, green salad, octopus with sweet potato purée. All of it was wonderful. Had the chocolate cake for dessert and it was fine. It was a traditional chocolate cake, vs. more of a flourless, denser cake. Good service.   Good selection of tapas. Lovely location with plenty of outdoor tables. The amber lager was excellent quality, and I highly recommend it. I'm usually a wine lover but I was not disappointed with my choice. Tapas were excellent with the exception of the cheese board. Mostly hard cheeses with little flavor and definitely not worth the price. Sweet potato fries were cold, but the server addressed the issue quickly and the replacement dish was piping hot and very, very good. Try dipping them in honey!   Tavira centre has a multitude of excellent restaurants. However if you are a little adventurous then there are also many fabulous places to eat hidden away from the town centre in little back streets or communal squares. One such restaurant is Ti Maria. For much of the year outdoor dining will be the order of the day but in the winter months indoor in the cosy interior will be the only option. Set in a beautiful square surrounded by local homes the restaurant has a very different feel to the ones in the town centre. Still extremely busy in the peak summer months and a reservation will be required to avoid disappointment. The food is essentially a tapas menu. Tuna tartare , sardine bruschetta , anchovies tempura and goats cheese and walnut treasure parcels were our choice for the evening and the 4 dishes were ample. We shared a sweet potato pastry desert. All washed down with a very nice bottle of white wine. Staff were very friendly and very busy. Good atmosphere and lots of Portuguese families eating there. Highly recommended.   Staff seemed overworked and desperate. Our waiter immediately told us not to get certain things because they had a lot of complaints. Some of what we ordered was really good. Most was average and some was terrible. We ordered the most expensive piece of meat they had and it was waaay over cooked. Would not have eaten it even if it was free. We complained and were told it was adequately cooked as we had asked. At the end we complained again and staff tried to offer it for free but manager would not allow it as we had eaten most of it (growing kids will eat anything). Really awkward experience. The shrimp was also overcooked and flavorless with some sort of ketchup like sauce on top. The sauce maybe is more a matter of taste. Overall very underwhelming. Would recommend avoiding until they get their kitchen and wait staff some help. Felt like dinning in the middle of a mental breakdown. We also requested several cheese and meat platters, all quite good. The Alheira Bread was exceptionally delicious. Service was mixed, with some serves being quite courteous and other a bit rude even.   Ti Maria is set slightly outside the most heavily traveled area around the Roman Bridge, but worth seeking out. We arrived for lunch and had no trouble getting a table outside. The Pork Cheek stew served on a bed of rice was tender, rich and flavorful. My wife's choice was Octopus House Style, which was a whole octopus, oven-cooked with greens, raisins and nuts and served with potatoes, all cooked to perfection. A very enjoyable lunch. Recommended.   Ti Maria is one of the very few places in Tavira (if not the only one) that offers reservations online via Google. I reserved a table for 5 (4 adults and a 5 year old) using this system and I received a confirmation email back. When I arrived at the restaurant they told me that I didn’t have a reservation. I showed them the email I received saying that my reservation was confirmed and at that point the manager started to tell me that he sent me an email telling me that he had no tables available (in spite of the fact that there were several empty tables at that time). I never received that email (also at the time of my reservation I had to leave my phone number since they stated that they would be communicating with me via phone in case of any problem. I didn’t receive any phone call). The manager never apologized for the inconvenience, and strangely became very confrontational. When I asked him to show me the email he sent me he was not able to produce it. He didn’t speak much English and I don’t speak Portuguese so we agreed to communicate in Italian. However, during our conversation he decided to switch back to Portuguese and told me “we are in Portugal we speak Portuguese” My point here is that for a place with such glorious reviews it’s a shame that it has a manager with absolute no work manners, who never apologized for the inconvenience, and who showed outright contempt for tourists. Porém, durante a nossa conversa ele decidiu voltar para o português e me disse “estamos em Portugal falamos português” O que quero dizer aqui é que, para um lugar com críticas tão gloriosas, é uma pena que tenha um gerente sem nenhuma educação profissional, que nunca se desculpou pelo inconveniente e que demonstrou total desprezo pelos turistas.

  Very good, being from Alberta we don't get fresh octopus, so had to try the octopus house style super tender and tasty with nuts and greens.
