  Unpretentious restaurant, but with a very good atmosphere, very close the Metro station. We ordered 3 meat dishes for 3 people, with rice and naan bread twice. Everything good and tasty. Freshly made bread. We were surprised. We paid around €17 per person, but we drank water because we preferred it, and a soft drink. Two desserts.   This was easily one of the best Indian meals we have ever eaten (and we’ve enjoyed Indian in at least 6 different countries). From the sauces accompanying the pappadam to the tikka masala and vindaloo, everything was simply spectacular. Our servers were happy to answer questions we had on the menu and offer suggestions and they rightly took pride in the meal they served us. A perfect meal for a chilly night- worth the trip across the bridge if you’re staying in Porto. Sorry no pictures- it was too tasty!   Owners were extremely friendly and kind, service was great. All of the food was amazing, particularly loved the Peshwari Naan, possibly the best I've ever had. We were staying on the Porto side of the river, but walked across the bridge specifically to go here because we saw all the great reviews - so glad we did, it was beyond great!   If you want to have the best Indian experience, definitely go to this restaurant. We had absolutely delicious dishes for a very friendly price. It is just 15-20 minutes walk from the centre of Porto; close to the Generál Torres metro station. The owner was amazing, caring for the guests.   At first I thought that it was only a take away restaurant, but then I went near the door and realised they were a full restaurant service and take away too. I left London 4 years ago and lived there 13 years, I missed cooked with the heart and served with the soul food this restaurant has it all. You definitely have to try the place, the second time I went (in less than one week) they remembered my name.   DELICIOUS! Went with a group of 8 for lunch on a Saturday, and they easily accommodated us. Food was excellent! It smelled so good when they put it on the table, I immediately ate and forgot to get pics! We had vegetable samosas, papadem, naan, rice, chicken vindaloo, and chicken madras. Everything was yum! The samosas were top as well. The spice level is adjustable, usually we take spicy European which is somewhat mild Indian level. We'll be back again!   My husband and I were visiting Porto from the US. We were craving a vegetarian meal and stumbled on Spice Art. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone! The food was excellent. We could tell that the samosas were hand-made. So flaky and light. We ordered bengan bharta (eggplant) and chana kadai (chickpeas) both of which were flavorful and generous portions. The spice level was also perfect! The total cost was very reasonable especially for the portion sizes. We met the owner who was extremely friendly and warm. He has a background in hospitality which came through in the service. They had outdoor seating as well as indoor.   It's one of my absolute favorite sit-downs in Porto. Not only is the food efficiently prepared, but it's authentic, filling, and DELICIOUS! If you're new to Indian food, this is a great place to start. Both of the owners are very friendly and will ask for your spice level. They always remember what level of spice I get every time I come in. I recommend ordering Papadum, Butter Chicken with your preference of rice, Cheese & Garlic Naan bread, and a Mango Lassi to drink, if Indian food is new to you. They also do takeout here, which I appreciate. But sitting out front and enjoying the weather at night is a very nice experience. If you go the takeout route, know that it absolutely reheats well!   My husband has always liked Indian food, but I was not a fan until we recently visited this place in Gaia three times. We returned because it’s obvious the cook puts his heart into his meals! The place is clean, and service is excellent with waitress checking after we were served to make sure everything was okay. We enjoyed both the Monday to Friday lunch specials and dinners.   Best Indian food I have ever eaten AND the chef was very attentive to my husband's Gluten Free needs (Celiac disease). Although quick delivery to Gaia or Porto is an option, I highly recommend eating in to experience the warmth and kindness of the chef and his wife (I am sorry I do not have their names!). We ordered a bottle of wine, a salad each, the lamb Rogan Josh, the Chana Masala, the Saag Paneer, Raita and then the Mango cream for dessert & a glass of Port, all to share. I had the plain Naan and my GF spouse had the Papadum & plain rice. All dishes were ordered "European medium" (vs. Indian medium!) and I think we might have been able to turn it up a notch. The spices in the dishes were the best I have EVER experienced in Indian food. I realize I have eaten a lot of bland Indian food, even in London. We spent about 70 euros and had MORE than enough to take to our apartment for a second meal the next night. At the end of our meal we enjoyed chatting with the chef and his wife and were treated to a tasting of Maiuco. We also enjoyed meeting his mother and daughter. Wonderful family, excellent Indian food and service. Eu comi o Naan simples e minha esposa GF comeu Papadum e arroz puro. Todos os pratos foram pedidos como "médio europeu" (vs. médio indiano!) E acho que poderíamos ter conseguido aumentar um pouco. Os temperos nos pratos foram os melhores que já experimentei em comida indiana. Percebo que comi muita comida indiana insípida, mesmo em Londres. Gastamos cerca de 70 euros e tivemos MAIS do que suficiente para levar ao nosso apartamento para uma segunda refeição na noite seguinte. No final da refeição, conversamos com o chef e sua esposa e fomos brindados com uma degustação de Maiuco. Também gostamos de conhecer sua mãe e filha.   We ordered the lamb kebab, prawn tikka, the Madras style chicken dish, and some lassis and we were mostly disappointed especially considering how strong the reviews were. The two tandoori dishes had no taste, they were missing spices and salt. The chicken dish had spices but the meat was a bit fibrous and overcooked. We also ordered some naan and roti, and neither were as we expected. The service was friendly and warm and the restaurant was clean. But, the food didn't resonate with us and I docked two stars accordingly. We did feel like the flavour of the palak paneer wasn’t similar to what we have tasted in India and Southeast Asia, and the butter chicken was lacking a stronger taste. In general it wasn’t the most authentic tasting Indian food we’ve had in Portugal as the flavours are toned down. Mango lassi was very delicious.   First of all the waiters were very nice, full credit to them. They don't serve tap water, because of so-called hygiene restrictions (how it extends only to water and other drinks I'm not sure).   We went deeply out of the main tourist area to reach this Indian set in the residential area of Vila Nova de Gaia. It's located on the ground floor of a big apartment complex, easy reachable 2 or 3 tram stations south from the Dom Luis bridge. When arrived we were the only guests greeted by a family who owns it. It was a pleasure seeing them working together and speaking with husband who's a main cook. He explained their history and journey how they settled in Porto from their native town in India, very interesting. All dishes were perfectly cooked with the right level of spices, just like we asked.   I drive from Braganca to porto only for take my lunch but spice Art Indian Restaurant makes me disappointed because of every food was pre made and it was not fresh. Basically Tandoori chicken was really wired and it was frozen and they make warm then serve us. The chicken curry was full of sour and it was made probably 2 days ago. They use lots of food coloring in biriayani which is not good for health. They serve some other bread behalf of Indian traditional tandoori naan. I order vegetable biryani but I never see this type of 3rd class biryani in India. I think this restaurant don't know what is biryani. Also I order panner kadai but that is also very poor quality. I will never order again from this restaurant.   Forgot to take picture because the food was amazing.. first of all, I love the cleanliness and tidiness of the restaurant. Chai tea came… so profound, almost took me back to India. I ordered Veggie Biryani, Chicken Tikka Masala, and salad. Naan too. They were all great and the spice level was perfect as I have ordered. The service was nice also.   The restaurant is really big inside. The staff was really helpful and nice. They have a cheaper menu for working days (Monday to Friday) but even paying the normal price on a Saturday, it wasn’t expansive. I ate a vegetarian dish with Indian cheese, garlic bread and rice.   We’ve had two wonderful meals at Spice Art. This family owned and run restaurant is very clean, and the couple that runs it is very friendly and is anxious to please. They will happily adjust the spice level to suit. The papadaums are fresh and delicious, as are the accompaniments. We had tandoori salmon that was moist and flavorful, as was the chicken saag.   My husband and I are huge fans of all things spicy.! We have tried a few Indian restaurants in town, but either the food wasn't authentically spiced, or it was too over-priced (sometimes both!). We heard some good reviews about this place, and we decided to try their lunch set. My very spicy Indian lamb curry set (€8) and my husband's medium-spicy Goa curry chicken set (€6) didn't disappoint! First, the portions were very decent. Second, the gravy was well-seasoned and spiced. We could definitely taste the coconut in the Goa curry, and the heat from the very spicy Indian lamb curry still lingers in my mouth! We also ordered Tandoori chicken. It was served on a hot plate, so it was sizzling hot and appetising. Unfortunately, the meat was a bit dry.   After travelling around the Iberian Península for four weeks, we arrived in Porto in need of a curry fix. The restaurant is in on Vila Nova de Gaia side of the river and a little way away in small parade of shops. The location is the only thing that stopped me giving five stars - if the rating was for the food and friendly service alone, it would definitely be five star. The owners took time to understand our tastes and importantly in Spain & Portugal, that we preferred much more spice than local palates! Excellent food and great service is well worth the metro/ taxi ride. This family opened up the business in February just before the Covid shut down so don’t be put off by the lack of reviews, it’s not a reflection of the experience you’ll have if you go.
