  The Bifana was affordable at only €3. But I must admit the boar taint of the pork was a little strong for me. The heavy-handed garlic helped to mask it a bit. Note that they take CASH ONLY, so be sure to come prepared. Other reviewers mentioned that they favour the locals and discriminate tourists but we didn't experience that at all. They were very kind when we didn't have cash, and told us to eat first then grab cash. We didn't have to queue on a weekday morning before 11am. I returned 2 more times on back to back days to load up on these bad boys. Double cheese bifanas - not one with double cheese, but two with cheese. One for each hand. Couldn’t be happier.   I’m not sure what’s so amazing about these sandwiches … but I guess when people are raving about the mustard you can’t have high expectations…I mean it’s mustard for crying out loud. We ordered two different sandwiches - the supposedly legendary bifana and one beef. The beef was crying for flavor and moisture and the “amazing” mustard was the only thing giving it flavor. The bifana was better than the beef but I can’t say it’s worth waiting in line for. Only thing going for this place is the speed service, the price (which I wouldn’t expect to pay more since it’s nothing to write home about) and the mustard… elevate your tastebuds people.   It was recommended by our guide and it's very well known in the city. They serve bifana, a typical fast food Portuguese dish. It's a sandwich made with slow roasted pork marinated in olive oil and garlic. You can add mustard or pirpipiri (a spicy vinegary sauce). It's really really cheap, and if you add the soup of the day you can basically eat for 6 euros. The service is extremely fast.   Little hole in the wall place. The staff were pretty efficient and friendly. I went for a traditional Bifana. For me, my Pão (bread roll) was a little dry, but the pork was hot and tender. The pork is stewed in its own fat so it does have a fatty juice over it. The portugese sweet mustard which is available helps to cut through this. But at €3 it is very affordable.   Easily the best Bifanas I have had. I understand the line. The service was quick and nice. We had to eat in the square which wasn't so bad. There was a very large cockroach right next to where I ordered and waited for food, which kind of turned my stomach. Fortunately not too much to try the sandwich.   We came here for breakfast and there was no line (when we passed by during lunch the line was SUPER LONG - so remember that). The pork stew sandwich (2.5) was so satisfying. They make it fresh right in front of you. The meat is stewing away in a pot and it's just delicious. It's just Portuguese bun and pork but it's addictive. Usually pork can be pretty dry but this wasn't dry at all. The chewiness of the bread and the tenderness of the pork went so well together. They have mustard on the table - remember to add some because it brings it up to a whole other level. I wanted to try their fried fish cake but I think they only serve it during lunch. I would definitely recommend this place.   Glad we stopped here for Bifanas. They’re so cheap (2,70€ each) and you get delicious pork on fresh fluffy bread. I’d add a generous squirt of mustard for more flavor and some of the spicy oil. A big enough sandwich to serve as a quick meal or a big snack. No seating inside and only two counters outside for maybe 4 people at most to stand and eat so plan to take the sandwiches elsewhere (there is a park bench around a tree next to the place). Grab a cheap beer too! Easy enough to order without knowing Spanish, not sure how much English they spoke but minimal words were exchanged.   This is one of those local gems and a must try when you’re in Lisbon. Have you heard of Strictly Dumpling? I was watching Mikey Chen’s Lisbon video, and he tried the bifanas here.   A very nicely made pork sandwich, with very juicy meat and excellent bread, but needed more seasoning for our tastes. The mustard and chili sauce helped. We went here as part of a food tour, so we didn't have to wait in a queue, and it was a nice start to the evening. Would go again if I was in the area, but probably wouldn't wait in a queue for it.   As Bifanas do Afonso's bifana with cheese is the best out of the three places we tried. The spice oil is more flavorful and there's more juicy meat! Line was 10-20 minutes. The other 2 places had no queue and places to sit in and out. "Casa das Bifanas" was also not bad. "O Trevo" where Bourdain went was the cheapest and also had prego (beef) in addition to bifana but only a single slice of meat - all cheap and cheerful but Afonso's the clear winner.   Learned about this place from one of the Lisbon tours. This was my first bifana ever and it did not disappoint! Very cheap, simple, and tasty. Fortunately I was able to see how long the line was throughout the day and jump on when it was short, since my hotel room has a clear line of site with the restaurant.   First bifana experience, not sure what it’s supposed to taste like. Bread was good, pork was tender but lacking in flavour so it was abit plain tasting. I put a lot of the mustard and chilli oil and it was better.   As a Canadian born Portuguese, my experience with Bifanas were always at church fundraisers from “the little old ladies”. These lived up to all those childhood tastes and expectations. You can get the sandwich with cheese or without, either tastes phenomenal (we did both). They’ve got a spicy oil, and mustards to top with. Although I’m a purest, I recognize that the oil and mustards are a MUST. You’ll probably stand in line a good while unless you’re there around opening at 11, but it was well worth the wait. Famous for good reason. Highly recommended! (Pro tip: there’s no seating, and the small tables in the square are owned by the restaurant next door. HOWEVER, if you buy your beer or cocktails from THEM they don’t mind you relaxing and eating your sandwiches in comfort. They’ll come to the table and take your drink order. Win win!)   Absolutely loved the bifana! The steak burger is the best I have tasted. A quaint humble eatery located along the corner, selling bifana with wines/ beers.   This place is absolutely amazing. One of the best meals we have had in Lisbon and it's just a Sandwich. Had my first experience of a Bifana at this place and the buzz is completely warranted. Inexpensive, authentic, and delicious. It's not often a sandwich will make me smile, but what you're getting here in this humble and unassuming creation is some of the most tender, flavourful, perfectly-cooked pork you'll find around -- a perfect reward for what can be a bit of a wait in line at times. I ate half of my sandwich just plain in order to savour the goodness, then topped the other half with some of their mustard and hot sauce.   Very delicious bifanas and quite cheap. Tried both the regular and one with cheese, but the regular was still my favorite. It was filled with meat and the sauce/bread ratio was great.   Hands down this is one of the best deals in town for a quick tasty bite. The sandwiches they provide are made in front of you. Keep in mind the restaurant is really small (approximately 50-60 sqft) so it is best you order and just eat outside in the plaza. There is a small standing area but it probably only hold 4 people max. The bifana is the staple pork sandwich and it is full of flavor and costs just over 2€. Lastly the owner also speaks English, well enough to understand you and communicate with you. Great spot!   The food is worth 4 stars (a bit too salty for me), but the price makes its 5 stars. A very simple stall that is packed with locals.. I love the 'pork burger' but do try the fried stuff behind the counter too.. they are fried and COLD (on purpose)!! They taste good too! I tried the fried fish and the triangular shaped pie. Don't forget to order some white wine off the tap also! For the 'pork burger' try adding some mustard and chilli oil too..
